Brian's pov:
Yesterday, after I drove Eva to Ms Dursilla and took her upstairs, I sat in my car thinking about Eva. I feel sorry for her. I want her to have a good life. A better life where she can be herself without anyone controlling her or anything. So I decided that I'll adopt her.
I've always wanted to have a family, but I couldn't because of my job. I never had girlfriends except for 1 time and it only lasted for 2 months. She cheated on me and since then, I never dated anyone. So I thought why not to adopt a kid. A teenager to be easy to understand each other and since I already know Eva and her story, I thought why not adopt her.
I'll take everything slow though. I'll wait 3 weeks, for when she comes in to remove her cast and ask her. For now, I'll just suggest the idea on my sister, since she is my only family and the only person I trust her judgment.
So here I am waiting for my sister to knock on the door so we can discuss the idea. Just as I was about to call her and ask where she is, I heard knocking on the door, and she appeared.
"I was about to call you. What took you so long?"
I said as she closed the door. I went to hug her and noticed how pale she was.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing, just have a fever."
"That's not nothing. Come with me, I'll give you a check up."
"No"
"Jane, please"
"No, Brian. I said I'm fine. It'll be gone tomorrow or something. If it gets bad, I'll tell you ok?"
"Fine. Have a seat"
We both sat down on the couch.
"So, what did you want to talk about?"
"About that. I want to take your advice on something."
"Ok, tell me."
"What do you think about me adopting?"
"Excuse me"
"I mean, I know I have a hard job with tight schedule and low amount of sleep. Like, I've always wanted a kid. Mostly teenager, so it can be easier to communicate. So what do you think of it?"
"Well... Brian it's a very big responsibility you know."
"I know, but I think I can manage it. I already understand this person and I know thier background information. So it's not as hard as you imagine."
"Wait, you chose the kid already?!"
"Yes I did. But they don't know that yet. I thought about it yesterday in the car."
"Brian, tell me the truth. Is it Eva?"
I stayed silent for a while and then I talked.
"Yes"
"Oh my God Brian. Why didn't you tell me from the start?!"
She said it annoyingly.
"I wanted to take your advice first about it before I let you know who is it. Besides, it doesn't change anything."
"Did you even ask her?"
"No. I was planning to when she comes to remove her cast."
"Well, Eva is a very sweet girl and I honestly wanted someone like you to adopt her. So I can be sure that you'll give her everything she wants and spoil her. I looked at her as my daughter Brian. I'm already attached. I'll agree if you adopt her but are you sure you will handle this responsibility? It's a big one. Eva isn't normal and she needs a lot of help. Will you do that for her?"
" Of course Jane. Why else would I want to adopt her if not to give her anything she wants?"
"Right. So is that everything? Any more topics you wanna discuss?"
"Would you let me please do a check up on you to see it's only fever?"
"I already said no Brian."
"Fine"
We both got up from the couch and heading to the door.
"Well, I have to go rest at home. I'll see you later Brian."
She said as she hugged me goodbye and I hugged back.
"See you later J"
She left the office and went home and I went to check on one of my favorite patients. I walked in the corridor till I reached the exam room. I knocked smiling and entered and saw my favorite patient.
"Hey kiddo, how are you?"
"I'm fine doctor B, but mommy said otherwise."
"Well how about we ask mommy why she brought you to see your favorite doctor."
I smiled at her as I tickled her a bit. I looked at her mother and asked.
"Hello ma'am, Why did you bring her in?"
"Hello doctor. I noticed that when Lili eats; she sometimes cough hard that it's hard to breath. I didn't know what's going on and I'm scared because she's my only daughter. I'm sure if you have kids, you'll understand what I mean, right?"
"Yes of course I understand. Now let's see what's wrong."
I looked back at Lili and she was coughing hard. I quickly went to bring the oxygen mask, because if her mother is right, then she'll need it to breath. When I came back to her, she was having trouble breathing, so I put the mask around her and told her to breath in it.
"Better?"
She nodded her head. I took my stethoscope from around my neck and put it on her chest. I listened to her lungs and noticed something wrong. I take the stethoscope out of my ears and put it around my neck.
"I need to take some blood tests and do an Echo on her chest."
Her mother began to cry.
"What's wrong doctor?"
"I can't tell you know for sure, but when I confirm it. I'll let you know. For now I'll draw some blood and get you guys an appointment with the Echo scan."
I went and got the blood kit only to come back to a crying Lili.
"What's the matter Lili? Why are you crying?"
"B-because y-you will t-take all m-my blood a-and I will die a-and mom will be sad."
I tried to hid my laughter, but I couldn't. Her mom and I laughed at her and she looked confused on why we are laughing and not crying.
"Kiddo, you're not going to die. I'm not taking all your blood. Just 2 tubes only."
"I'm not going to die?"
"No, sweetie."
"Oh"
Her confused face is so cute that I want to pinch her checks.
"Alright, give me your hand."
She gave me her hand and I tied the blue band on her forearm. I cleaned it with a sanitizer.
"You're going to feel a small pinch and it might be uncomfortable, but you can't move ok?"
"Ok."
Her mother held her tightly and I inserted the needle into her arm. She didn't cry or scream or anything. She was focused on the phone that her mother gave her. I quickly finished up and put a princess bandaid on it.
"All done."
"That was fast, I didn't feel anything."
"I guess that's my magic. Now I'll go run this in the labs and I'll tell the receptionist to schedule your appointment with me in 2 weeks so the blood test results are out and you will be done from the Echo appointment."
"Ok, thank you so much doctor."
"You're welcome ma'am. Bye Lili."
"Bye doctor B"
