After Maria sent me home I went home and told my parents the news. They were so proud of me. Since then I have been trying my best to avoid Jake and his friends with little to no success.
It is now Friday afternoon and I am in the middle of making the 200 tarts the Alpha and Luna ordered. My parents decided it was ok that I skipped school and get a head start on making the tarts. I was currently working on tart number 125 when Maria walks in.
“Hey there Lani,” Maria said cheerfully.
“Hey Maria,” I said.
I don’t look up from what I am doing. I was hoping to get done before Jake and the jerk squad got home from school and saw me here. I don’t want Jake knowing I am making the tarts because I am pretty sure he would destroy them forcing me to work longer.
“Do you need any help there?” Maria asks.
“No I got it but thanks though,” I answer.
I glance at the clock and frown. It is almost 2:30 which only gives me an hour before school gets out. I nod to myself.
I've got time, I think to myself.
45 minutes pass and I have 10 more to go so I decide to enlist help from Maria, who gladly agrees. After teaching her how to make the tarts we get going. I am putting them into the fridge when Brian walks in. I freeze and he just stares at me. After a while he shrugs and walks over to the fridge to grab a drink. I quickly get out of his way only to bump into someone’s chest.
“Omega girl,” the voice growls.
I tense up knowing exactly who’s voice that is. I turn to only confirm my fear. It’s Jake.
“S-s-sorry, Alpha,” I stammer out.
Jake doesn’t respond. Instead he just narrows his eyes and grunts at me. I blink and scary around the counter and out the door all the while being glared at by Jake. I quickly walk out the door and sigh with relief. I walk a few feet before I hear a voice behind me.
“Don’t worry about Jake,” the voice behind me said. “He is just worried about his birthday and gaining his wolf.”
I turn only to come face to face with Brian. I nod my head in response to him and he smiles at me. I blink, confused.
“My name is Brian,” he holds out his hand.
“I know,” I said, quietly.
“And you are…,” He drawls out, amusement dancing in his brown eyes.
“L-L-Lani,” I stammered out, taking his hand to shake.
As he is about to grab my hand the kitchen doors open and Jake steps out and I snatch my hand back quickly. Hurt flashes in Brian’s eyes. Jake clears his throat and calls out Brian's name and understanding crosses his face.
“Coming,” Brian calls back.
Before he disappears with Jake, turns to smile and wink at me. I am left standing there dumbfounded. I snap out of it after a few minutes.
What the hell just happened.
I turn and walk out of the packhouse and start to head home. I can’t help but feel eyes on me. I turn to look around and find nobody around looking at me. I turn back around and head home
Jakes POV
I watch as the Omega girl walks down the street out of sight. I shake my head and snort in disgust. I turn to look at my best friend, Brian.
“Why the hell were you talking to that Omega b***h,” I ask, crossing my arms.
Brian looks at me rolling his eyes and sighing.
“She’s not a b***h, dude,” he responds, “You don’t even know her, man. For all you know she could be the coolest person you meet.”
I roll my eyes at his comment.
“I don’t need to know her,” I snap back. “She’s an Omega. She doesn’t even have real parents. She’s trash, man.”
“Whatever,” he said.
I sigh and just look back out the window. He’s right I don’t know her, I don’t even know her name. All I know is that she is crazy smart. She’s even pretty, not that I will admit that to anyone. I didn’t even know she existed until I heard the principal talking to her about how she could have graduated early last year. I don’t even know why I tease her.
That is a lie, I do know. I love to see her face blush. Again I will never admit that to anyone. I know if I got to know her that I could actually like her and that scares me. So I tease her until she blushes.
I guess you could say I have a crush on her but nobody can find out because she is an Omega and I am the Alpha’s son. So I can’t befriend her but I have to do something so I tease her. My reasons are stupid but that is all I got.
As I am lost in thought the Gamma twins walk in. Know Jenna has a little crush on me so occasionally I flirt with her. I know it’s wrong to get her hopes up, but a lot of people think we might be mates which is the only reason I tolerate her obsessive need to be all over me. I mean, don’t get me wrong Jenna is cute with her short blonde hair and her light brown eyes, but I don’t feel like that towards her. At least, not yet.
“Hey, Jake,” Jenna said sweetly.
“Hey, Jenna,” I said, giving her a smirk.
She walks over to me and gives me a lingering hug. I look down at her when she pulls away. I can see the adoration in her eyes. I smile back at her and snake my arm around her waist keeping her close.
“Hey, Brian,” Alicia said, ignoring me completely.
Brian just nods at her and smiles. We’ve all been friends since we were kids but Brian and I have been friends the longest. Alicia is the opposite from Jenna in every way. She has long blonde hair and is a huge tomboy. She is the best female fighter in our class. While her sister is feminine and has short hair, don’t let it fool you, as she is the second best female fighter in our class. They are also older than Brian and I by about a month so they’ve already met their wolves. Alicia’s wolf’s name is Tina and Jenna’s wolf’s name is Jade.
Thinking about their wolves makes me nervous about meeting mine. Just one more day until I can meet him and then 2 more years before I can shift and meet my mate. I can’t wait to meet my mate, my love, my Luna. I sigh which earns a glance from Jenna.
“Are you ok, babe?" Jenna asks.
“Yeah,” I answer. “Just nervous about tomorrow. My parents are driving me crazy about me gaining my wolf. They even got one of the kitchen staff to make these fruit tarts. They said the tarts are so good they ordered 200 of them because they know everyone will love them.”
“Hmm..,” Brian hums. “I am sure they are just excited for you to gain your wolf.”
I nod and sigh. We all hang out until we each go to our rooms. I go to my room and start on my homework. I am a straight A student and nobody knows except my parents and Brian. I may be smart but I am nowhere near as smart as the Omega girl.
As I am staring at my homework my mind drifts to the Omega. I start to think of ways to tease her. A plan starts to form in my head. I smile.
