Chapter 8

I stand there dumbfounded at what Jake just said. Jake Silver just apologized to me. Hell must have frozen over if the guy who has hated me since high school just apologized to me. “Lani,” Jake starts again. “I know that you might not believe me but I am very sorry for everything and I want to explain.” I quickly recover and glare at him. “Explain what,” I snap. “How you teased just because I was adopted and an Omega since we were kids? Or how you continued totorture me and make my life living hell when we got to high school? At least when we were kids all I had to put up with was a snide comment here and there but when we went to high school you turned it up to shoving me into lockers and relentless teasing and name calling. Because of you I had no friends. Nobody wanted to be associated with the Alpha’s son's punching bag.” When I pause my rant, Jake is standing there watching me with sorrow in his eyes. I realize that he isn’t getting angry at me for snapping at him. I stand there breathing hard. “I know,” he begins and I snort. “I treated you so badly and when we went to high school it got worse. I didn’t want to admit it but I was attracted to you.” I stare at him in disbelief. “You tortured me because you were attracted to me,” I roared. Jake flinches and shuffles his feet looking down. “I know how it sounds,” Jake said calmly. “It’s stupid, I know, but I didn’t want anyone to know that I liked you so I teased you instead. I didn’t want anyone to know that I liked an omega wolf who was adopted. I thought the crush would go away when we got to high school but when I saw you in the hallways on the first day my feelings hit me like a ton of bricks and I didn’t know how to handle them. I shouldn’t have done all the things I did but I didn’t know what to do. When I saw Brian talking to and making you smile after my birthday I got jealous so I planned a prank on you and when I realized that your birthday was three days after mine I thought it was the perfect time to do it.” I stand there saying nothing. I am so pissed off that I don’t know what to say. Jake continues. “I didn’t know Jenna was gonna push you down the stairs,” Jake said softly, regret and anger lacing his voice. “I didn’t know and I shouldn’t have left you there. When I realized I went too far I looked for you after school and when I couldn’t find you I followed Brian to your house but you were already gone. And I realized that I was a f*****g d**k to you and I thought I would never get the chance to tell you how sorry I am for doing all that to you.” I am shaking in anger. How dare he? How f*****g dare he think that having a crush on me would excuse his actions. I walk up to and before I realize what’s happening, I slap him with everything in me. His head snaps to the left and when he looks back at me my eyes widen seeing that I split his lip. I expect him to growl and attack me for hitting him but when he looks at me there is no anger in his eyes, only pain and sorrow. I step back and look down. “You need to leave,” I said quietly. When I look back up he is still watching me closely. He makes no move to leave. Instead he takes a step towards me. I back up and he stops and his shoulders slump. “I said get out,” I said more clearly. “No,” he said. I stare at him and he stares back. “I know you know we are mates,” he said calmly. “We are mates. I am not gonna reject you. I want you and I am happy the Moon Goddess chose you as my mate. I must have felt it when we were growing up because of my Alpha blood. I didn’t handle it well, I know. All I am asking for here is a chance.” He backed me up against the door as he was talking. He traps me between his arms. I gulp as his scent fills my head and clouds my thoughts. Diamond isn’t helping my situation because she is howling in my head to take Jake and mate with him right now. It is taking all my strength to not let Diamond out and have her way with him and judging by the look in Jake’s eyes and the fact his eyes keep flickering from bright green to dark green, that he is fighting his wof as well. We don’t said anything for a while staring into each other's eyes until I finally break eye contact. I look away and duck under his arms and walk to the bed and sigh. “Look Jake,” I said. “I am only here to help train your warriors and that’s it. When I am done training your warriors I will be heading back to my pack with my Alpha.” He flinches at my words. “Please,” Jake whispers. “Please don’t reject me yet. Please just give me a chance to prove to you how sorry I am.” He sounds so heartbroken. “Don’t reject mate,” Diamond whimpers. “Please Lani. Jake is your mate but Hades is also my mate.” I sigh because Diamond is right. I can’t just reject Jake without giving him a chance because Hades is Diamonds wolf and if I reject him then Diamond loses out on her mate. “I won’t reject you right now,” I said slowly. Jake’s eyes snap up hope filling his eyes and he grins. “That doesn’t mean I am accepting you or forgive you,” I quickly add. Jake just nods his head and his grin widens. I watch him carefully. “Thank you,” he said excitedly. “All I want is a chance to prove to you that I am sorry. I promise to show you sorry I am and to prove to you that I have changed.” I nod my head. Jake stands there and stares at me like he's memorizing my face for a moment. He snaps out of his daze and he nods his head and walks to the door.  “I will leave you to get settled,” he pauses and looks back at me grinning. “I will see you tomorrow at 6 am sharp.” He winks and closes the door leaving me to my thoughts. I walk over to my suitcase and begin to unpack my clothes and put them away. When I am done I hop in the shower to wash the day off.  When I get out of the shower I quickly dress. I hear a knock at my door and I call to whoever it is to come in and am surprised to see it is Alicia with a tray of food. My guard immediately goes up as she walks into my room. “Hey Lani,” Alicia said with a smile. “Alicia,” I said cautiously. She sighs and puts the tray of food on my desk and sits down in the chair. “Look I just wanna said,” Alicia starts. “I am sorry. I shouldn’t have let Jake do any of that stuff to you. I shouldn’t have laughed at you or the jokes he made about you. I definitely shouldn't have let Jenna push you. I was wrong and believe me when Brian and I found out we were mates he gave me an earful. I was even scared he was gonna reject me for a while and when he didn’t I promised him that I would set things right with you if we ever saw you again.” I stare at her hard for a while. I watch her face for any signs of deceit. When I found none I nod my head at her accepting her apology. She grins and claps her hands together. “Yay,” she exclaims. “I brought up dinner. I thought we could eat and talk and get to know each other.” I nod my head and look at the tray she brought up, I notice that the tray has two plates on it. Both of them have two pieces of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and green beans on them. I pick one up and sit on the bed. Alicia grabs the other plate and tosses me a water. I catch the bottle. “So you look good,” Alicia said. “Last time I saw you, you were a little chubby.” She freezes and gasps as she realizes what she said. “I’m sorry,” she quickly said. “I didn’t mean to said it like that. I just meant that you are all toned and you look strong. I really didn’t mean to sound like a bitch.” I grin at her and chuckle at her reaction. “Don’t worry,” I reassure her. “I understand. I was a little chubby before. When I ran away, Alpha Derek found me and took me into his pack. His head warrior, Victor, and I trained everyday for the last two years. I became strong and I love it.” She nods her head in understanding. “You gained your wolf a few weeks ago, right,” she asks. I nod my head. I already know that her and her sister gained their wolves over the summer. “What’s her name,” she asks. “If you don’t mind me asking.” “Diamond,” I answer, smiling. “What’s yours?” “Tina,” she grins back. “Jenna’s is named Jade.” I nod my head. We sit in my room eating and talking. We even laugh at each other's stories and I quickly realize that Alicia isn’t as bad as I thought she was. Jake’s POV I watch as Alicia takes a tray with two plates of food on it upstairs. “She’s going to see Lani,” Brain said, seeing me watch Alicia. “Why,” I ask. “She promised me she would make things right between them,” he answers with a shrug. “The day we found out we were mates I made her promise to apologize to Lani if we ever saw her again. I reminded her of that promise today when she kept glaring at Lani.” I nod my head at him. He shakes his head at me. “Jake,” a voice said behind me. I cringe when I recognize the voice. Brian glares behind me. “Hey Jenna,” I answer coolly. Jenna quickly attaches herself to me. Brian shoots me a look while I try to shake her off with no success. She is latched to my arm like a leech. “Jenna,” Brian growls. “Let go of the Alpha.” “He can speak for himself, Beta,” Jenna snaps. “Jenna,” I growl. “Let go.” She turns to me with shock written all over face. “B-b-but,” she sputters. “Jenna,” Brian growls again when she doesn’t let go. “The Alpha said to let go.” Jenna glares and Brian but let’s go. She tosses her long blonde hair over her shoulder. Brian and I sit down at the table with h[our food and Jenna takes the seat on my other side. “I hear the Omega b***h is back,” Jenna starts. “Is she really gonna train all the she-wolves?” I growl at Jenna. Brian quickly answers before I can rip into her for calling my beautiful mate a b***h. “Yes,” he answers her coolly. “Lani is back and she is gonna train the she-wolves. She is the best female warrior in her new pack. Her alpha even vouched for her.” “Training starts tomorrow at 6 am,” I grit my teeth. “You will be there on time and you will show her respect.” “Yeah,” Brian agrees. “You will show the future Luna respect.” “What,” Jenna shrieks. “She’s my mate,” I said with a smile. Jenna stares at me in shock and anger. “What about me,” she growls. “What about you,” I growl back. “I thought I was gonna be your Luna,” she whines. “I never told you that,” I said back, annoyance clear in my voice. “She’s my mate, Jenna.” Jenna growls and pushes her found away before standing up and stomping back upstairs. Brian smirks as she walks away and I sigh. “You never should have slept with her,” Brian remarks. “I know,” I sigh. “You definitely shouldn’t have kept sleeping with her,” Brian continues. “I told you that you should’ve kicked her to the curb after we graduated last year.” The third year of high school is always the hardest for wolves because the first half of the year is junior year and the second half is senior year. It was a stressful time and I needed to relieve some of that stress and Jenna was there willing to help me. I sigh again cause I knew Brian was right back then and yet I still continued to sleep with her. “Can’t take it back now,” I said. “No matter how much I wish I could.” Brian laughs at me. I grin back at him. It feels like old times and I know it’s because Lani is back and I promised to make everything right. I smile at the thought of having the chance to make it up to Lani. “Brian,” I ask turning to him “Yes,” Brian turns to me. “I need your help with something,” I said grinning like a mad man. Brian grins back knowingly.
