            It was nighttime and it was raining very heavily. The rain beat down mercilessly on the roof of the Miller’s house as though it was an enemy and had come for vengeance. It was early in the morning, but Meredith could not sleep. This was not a new thing, and in a way, she was even getting used to it. A quick glance at the bedside clock showed her that it was just one in the morning, daylight was still very far away. She sighed and got out of bed as slowly as she could, trying not to wake her husband, but she could have saved her strength.
