     Carla stood propped against the white wall with her eyes closed. It looked like she was praying, and I felt awkward just standing there. I should've been the one praying. After all, I was the one blowing my second chance.       A few nurses hurried past us, going into different rooms down the hall. Shifting my weight, I watched Carla's eyes open as she looked at me. "Explain."      I sighed. "Abby and I just . . . Hit a bit of a rough patch, and she decided not to ride with me today."      She looked to the floor.
