Amelie was beyond pleased with herself with our newly marked status. Even the other pack members of Star Garnet started treating me with more respect and more care once I bore Nikolai’s mark and he mine. It must have shown them that I truly did want to stay with them, no matter what my ranked status was.
Ever since Nikolai had opened up to me about his father, what had happened with the former Beta, and about Brianna, I felt more comfortable in my skin and in my decisions in the pack. Even now as I was helping Irena pick something as simple as new place settings for the pack house, I found myself smiling. I didn’t feel closed off and outcast anymore. Things were finally starting to make more sense in my life.
