CHAPTER XVI- BROTHER CAME TO VISIT

The students were screaming outside the cafeteria. We had finished our food already without uttering more words. I felt goose bumps on my back that made me feel that something bad would happen. I looked around and I saw the girls were smiling and screaming at a guy. May be, he was a campus heartthrob.

Haji dropped his spoon and was stunned at his seat.

“Sae, you need to hide,” Haji whispered to me. Kai looked at us curiously that made me feel bad even more.

“Why?” I whispered to Haji.

“It was your brother, Seravy. He’s coming.” He was holding my hand and we ran to the back door of the cafeteria. Kai was running after us. We went to the school’s garden, catching our breaths.

“What’s happening?” Kai asked while he was catching his breaths. He looked at the hand of Haji, holding mine. I removed quickly my hand and I put a pigtail on my hair.

“Her brother is here. You need to prepare yourself.” Haji was panicking. He was walking back and forth, touching his chin.

“Please don’t tell everything about us.” I requested to Kai. He looked serious but calm. I wonder how would he handle my brother’s reaction if he found out.

This would be a trouble for us. I did not change the used things that I lent to Kai. May be, he was here to get his things back. I should do something for it before he got to know that I lent it to Kai. I felt goose bumps on my neck.

I heard someone was running behind me. I heard him stopped at my back.

“Sae!” I heard a familiar voice calling me. Haji and Kai looked shocked, seeing the person behind me. I know that it was my brother.

I faced him and I happily hugged him. “Brother!” I called him. He pushed me, making me feel disappointed.

“How dare you to use my things!” he said angrily. I smiled wryly at him and I shook my head. “Who used it?”

Haji’s eyes widened when he came closer to him.

“Haji? Is that you?” my brother asked surprisingly and he nodded. “And who is this guy?” he asked curiously. His eyes went small, studying the figure of Kai.

Kai’s eyes were calm and he was not uttering words. I tapped the shoulder of my brother that made him to look at me.

“He’s Kai,” I said with a calm face. He turned his gaze at Kai and his eyes went wide.

“So, you’re the fiance of my little princess?” he asked curiously. I felt awkward with his tone. He looked like interrogating Kai.

“Yes, brother – in – law,” Kai answered seriously. My eyes widened when he called my brother, his brother-in-law. How could he call him that? I was embarrassed at this moment because he should not call him like that.

“Where are you two living?” he asked with his furious eyes. It made me shiver and my sweats were rushing around my face, neck and arms. I should stop him from asking these nonsense questions.

“We’re living in a separate house, brother,” I said without hesitation. My brother laughed a little and tapped the shoulders of Kai.

“No, we’re living in the same roof,” Kai said against my statement.

I was stunned at my place, my mouth went open and my eyes blinked few times. Where did he get some confidence to answer my brother like that? My brother’s eyes went small and he looked at me angrily. He was really scary when it comes to this situation.

“Sae, why did you lie to me?” my brother asked with his eyes closed.

“I’m sorry, brother Seravy.” I said sincerely. I looked at Kai with a sad face but he remained serious.

“Did you sleep with one bed?” he asked with a scary tone. His nostrils were flaring while he looked at Kai’s eyes.

“No, brother. I let him sleep on the couch,” I said with a small laugh. He tapped the shoulder of Kai with a relief.

“No, I’m sleeping with her on our bed,” Kai said with a serious look. I looked at him with disbelief that made me feel more nervous. Why did he tell the truth? I was afraid to my older brother rather he would kill me or him. I was annoyed at Kai and my brother looked at us with disbelief too. Haji was surprised too.

“Why did you lie to me again, Sae?” my older brother asked with anger tone. “Did you let him use my things?” he added.

“Ye-yes.”

“Oh, gosh!” he groaned. “Why did you let him use my things and why did you let him sleep beside you? Let me know the truth. Did he – did he do something like – you know…” He could not say the right thing that made me blush. He was making me uncomfortable.

“Nothing happened,” Kai said without hesitation. He came close to me and he was holding my hand. I felt secured with his hand in mine. “There was nothing happened between us. We promise.” He looked at me with sincerity and I remembered our first kiss – an accidental kiss. My heart was beating fast, my knees trembled and I was trying to stop my hands from being shaky.

“Good. Let me tell you that I will be here for a week vacation. Since, Sae was not around the house, let me in in your house,” my older brother said with confidence and a wide smile on his face.

“So, are you confident to be with us?” Kai asked and he looked at him. My older brother looked annoyed at him and I squeezed the hand of Kai, giving him a signal to stop. “Yes, we will let you. Just wait for us after class.” He added and said goodbye to my brother.

He may be misunderstood why I squeezed his hand.

“Your brother, Seravy was scary,” Haji whispered to me.

“Don’t mention his name.” I hissed. Kai went back to his class and I could not escape from my nervousness. It really made my day bad.

It was almost time to go home. I felt nervous on what would happen later and for a week. What if my older brother would make some trouble?

“Sae, good luck!” Haji cheered me before leaving me at the gate. Kai was walking to me with his usual look. He did not look tensed or even nervous. Why would he let my older brother to be with us for a week?

Oh, no! Tell me this was just a dream.

“Let’s go home.” My brother was standing with his duffel bag. I smiled wryly at him and Kai drove us home.

We went home without any conversation. I saw how my brother looked at our house. He was looking curiously at our room.

“Is it only one room?” he asked seriously.

“Yes, brother – in – law,” Kai answered calmly and they sat on the couch opposite to each other.

“I will just cook for dinner,” I cheerfully said.

“Okay. Let me talk to him,” Seravy’s face was fiercely looking at him. Kai was not affected and he looked directly in the eyes of brother Seravy. I think that there was happening between them.

“Let’s eat!” I pretended to be happy because of the uncomfortable atmosphere. They were looking at each other, making me feel awkward. I sat beside my brother Seravy.

I took a sip of the mushroom soup and it was really delicious. I ignored them and I just ate my dinner. I was annoyed when they rushed to eat their food. What was happening to these two?

“Please, eat your food slowly,” I said quickly. I was annoyed when they ignored me.

Kai offered to wash the dishes. What was running in their minds? It made me feel more uncomfortable when they were at the living room. They played a video game with an annoying atmosphere.

I went for a bath to make myself calm for a moment. When I was done, I put the specialized make up on my body. I was surprised when I heard something outside. I quickly went to the living room and I saw that they were playing wrestling.

“What’s going on here?” I asked while catching my breath.

“Wrestling,” my brother answered.

Oh, no! I was worried about my older brother grabbing Kai’s arm and he twisted it at his back. No wonder if he would break Kai’s bones because my older brother knew about the martial arts. I dashed to come near my older brother when I heard Kai’s broken voice while stopping himself to cry in pain.

Seravy was on top of Kai’s back while he was holding his arm.

“Stop!” I yelled. I pulled Seravy and I helped Kai to stand. I was worried at him while he was in pain.

“What did you do?” I asked brother Seravy but he did not answer me.

“You lost our game. So, sleep here at the floor,” my older brother smirked, and he added, “Let Sae sleep alone in the bedroom. I’ll sleep here on the couch.”

So, they made an aggreement without my consent? My older brother was really making me feel uncomfortable. Whatever his reason, he should not make trouble for us.

Was Kai going to be crazy? Why would he let my brother to make an agreement with him? What if my brother broke his arm? What would I do?

I gave them the thick blankets. I rolled my eyes at them and I went at the bedroom. I sighed for a relief. I could not sleep while thinking of those two men. I got up to see them secretly. I peeked at them and I saw them sleeping silently.

I saw their thick blankets on their feet. I came to them carefully, avoiding to make any sound and put their thick blankets up to their shoulders. I went back to the bedroom and I did not realize that I fell asleep.
