The Only Thing
"Elsa, wait for me, please." I can't keep up with your pace anymore. I still have to use my legs for your brother's sport tomorrow, remember? "I wouldn't be able to do that if I tired them out by chasing after you." Young Elsa's father playfully scolded her for walking too fast. Although she didn't listen to him, she made sure to walk in close proximity to her father. They continued walking in that order until Elsa said "Papa, when is the painter coming to make a painting of me?" Elsa asked out of the blue. Her father had promised to get her a painting of herself on the day she came home on a windy evening after dance practice with her friends with a sulky face. The coachman had just arrived at the Lucas family residence with the family carriage. Mr. and Mrs. Lucas and Calhoun, Elsa's younger brother, were expecting their daughter, who had gone out to dance practice with her friends. They both came out to welcome a vibrant and cheerful Elsa, but unfortunately, they were met with a rather unhappy Elsa. Her father then asked her, "Elsa, dear, why do you have a sad face on?" "Is anything the matter, my love?" She had intended to smile when she got into the house, but she was caught off guard by her parents' unexpected welcome. She greeted her parents and shrugged off their questions. She then stepped into the house, leaving her parents and brother in confusion about her sudden change of mood. Her father came in to announce he'd be out for a while. "I'm heading out for a brief meeting with the Council. "I'll be back soon," Elsa's father, Mr. Lucas, said while pecking Mrs. Lucas and little Elsa. "Bye, my love, please come back safe and early," Elsa's mother told her dad. "I will". "Bye, papa, please come home quick," Elsa told her father. "I will have my little pumpkin." "Bye, dad, please come home early for my game." "I will, my dear son." "Mama, I'm hungry. Please help me." Is dinner ready? "Today was very hectic, you know," Elsa told her mother, chirping in the last part so she wouldn't get scolded while making her way to the dining room. "Dinner is served, sweetheart," her mother said while trying to suppress her suspicions that her daughter's day had been going very well. "Thank you, mama." The mother, son, and daughter sat down and had their dinner in silence. "Hey, Elsa, do you want to see me run?" "I'm so good at it now, and I'm sure I'd win the race tomorrow." Calhoun told her with every ounce of enthusiasm in his veins, but she only smiled in acknowledgement, which made Calhoun a bit sad, but he shrugged it off quickly. After dinner, her mom tried to break the uncomfortable silence by teasing her in an attempt to make her cheer up again. "Elsa, your dad will soon be back home." "Get up and freshen up so you can show us some dance moves," her mother teased. Elsa wasn't in the mood, and all she wanted to do was sleep, but nevertheless, she still did as instructed. The butler had come in to announce the arrival of Mr. Lucas. "Thank Jonas" "Elsa, Calhoun, your father is back," their mom called to them. "Welcome, papa," Elsa and Calhoun greeted them in unison. "Welcome, my love," their mom greeted their father. Jonas, the butler, then took off Mr. Lucas' coat from him as Mr. Lucas walked to go meet his family. "Good evening, my two lovely ladies," he said, full of sweet smiles. "Good evening, my hero," he said, ruffling his golden-brown curly hair. Elsa's face lacked interest and enthusiasm, and now her father was really concerned as to what had caused her mood to be sour for hours. He invited Elsa to the drawing room. "You've been sad for hours; what's the matter?" he asked her with a soothing voice. She tried so hard to hide it, but it didn't last long as she burst into tears. "The elite vampiresses came to our dance practice today with each painting in hand," she sniffled, "and only girls with paintings were allowed to see and hold theirs." " I was told not to touch it because I couldn't afford it. "Papa, I felt so humiliated today." She told her father. Her father pulled her into a warm embrace and held her down in that position for a few minutes before saying, "Elsa, what measures a man or woman is not what they have in gold or silver." "It's what they have here and here," he told her while making hand gestures toward his head and his heart. Elsa still felt slightly indifferent, although she didn't show it. Her father had already notified her, so he said, "How about I get you your own painting?" "Would you like that?" Like a thousand stars, her eyes lit up at her father's proposal. "Yessss! Yessss!! "Yes, papa, I would love it," she squealed as she took a dive into her father's arms and engulfed him in her own tight but warm embrace. She slowly let go and then looked up to him to say, "Thank you so much, papa." "You're welcome, Elsa." "Have you had your dinner?" Her father asked her. "Yes, papa, I have," she replied. He then motioned for her to go to bed. "Papa!" She pulled her father out of his reverie. The painter will arrive soon. "OK, papa," Elsa said as she ran away. "Elsa, don't go too far." Remember, the werewolves are Mr. Lucas heard the halting of Elsa's footsteps, so he took out his canines and asked him if he had to use them. "Elsa, what is the matter?" he asked her in a low voice when he got close to her. She didn't reply and only ended up looking at the scene before her. "Papa, look" Her father tilted his head in the intended direction. Before them was what seemed like a s*******r. There were three men who lay dead and another who seemed alive. They all looked human. The man alive was naked and had a deep wound that made his ribs visible. It seems he was mauled by a wild beast with long claws. A werewolf. "Sii-irrr, please help me." "I was attacked alongside these men by rogue Weres," the naked man said to Mr. Lucas. Mr. Lucas turned away and was about to take Elsa and leave when she retracted her hand and said, "Please, papa, help him." He is in so much pain. "We can't trust him; we do not know if he is a werewolf." "We can't say if he is or not." "Please let's help him, papa." Pleaseeeeeeeee" Her father stood helpless as he stared at the little, innocent Elsa. He took several deep breaths before saying, "OK, let's help him." That statement made Elsa very happy. She quickly made way for her father so he could carry the naked man on his back. They began making their way to the carriage. There was a quiet ride home. Elsa had a lot of questions to ask her father, but she had to wait till they got home. "Mr. Lucas has arrived," the butler announced as they walked in. "Welcome home, Papa!" The ever-enthusiastic Calhoun came out to greet his father but was halted in his tracks when his eyes met with the body of the naked man. "Dad, who's that?" "There's no time for questions now, Cal," Mr. Lucas replied while making his way to the drawing room. "Mr. Jonas, please get me some water, sugar, bandages, and some warm clothes." Elsa's father was a nurse who had served at the old town hospital for 80 years. He was one of the best vampire nurses in the land, so he knew his way around. After fixing him up, he turned to Elsa, Calhoun, and Mr. Jones and said, "No one should disturb him; let him rest tonight." "Tomorrow we shall take him to the council to find out more about him." "Ok sir". "Ok dad". "Good night, everyone." "Good night". Everyone went to bed that night and woke up very early in the morning. The house was bustling with activity as everyone wanted to know more about the stranger who had just graced the house. The maids of the house occasionally sat down to gossip about strangers in between their work hours, but they were always reprimanded by the strict butler whenever he caught them slacking. "Honey, has the man woken up?" Mrs. Lucas asked her husband. Concern was easily discernible through her beautiful brown eyes. "No, dear, I will go check up on him at once," Mr. Lucas said, getting up to meet the stranger. When he got into the room where he had left him, he met the man fully awake and staring at the sun like he was meditating. "Good morning, dear sir," the man greeted Mr. Lucas as soon as he acknowledged his presence. "Good morning to you too, how are you?" "I am fine, all thanks to you, sir. "Although I feel a bit of pain in my abdomen, I am still fine, sir," the man told Mr. Lucas. "It's nothing. I would like to have a discussion with you. "I would like to know who you are, where you're from, and how you got there yesterday." "I'll need to know these things before I take you to the council." "Council?" "Yeah, the council." They are the ruling body in this land. "The highest authority, too." "OK, my name is Kane. I am a man from the North. I was on a journey with my friends when we were attacked by wild beasts. "Creatures I'd never seen before," Kane explained to Mr. Lucas. "What did this beast look like?"Mr. Lucas asked, pressing for further information to satisfy his suspicion. "It looked like a wolf, but it had the strength of a man, and it looked finely built too, unlike the regular wolves we have." "Ah, I see. There's no problem, Mr. If you don't have anything to worry about, the council will decide what should be done in this case. "Please prepare to join us for breakfast before we leave for the Council." "OK, sir, give me a minute." With that, Mr. Lucas excused himself from the room and went to join his family at the table. After a few minutes, Kane came down and had his breakfast. He wasn't a vampire, so he wasn't comfortable with the blood tea and raw, half-cooked meat, so he opted for fruits instead. The family understood this and granted him his wish. After breakfast, Mr. Lucas and Kane got ready to leave. "Please be safe out there, honey," Mrs. Lucas said as she pecked him on the cheek. "Bye, dad, please come home quick," Calhoun said while Elsa held her father in a warm hug. The coachman set out for the council. The ride was rather quiet, and the silence was actually comfortable. Mr. Lucas was deliberating on how to approach the councillors and ladies to explain the situation on the ground. Kane, for his part, seemed rather undisturbed, with a calm expression on his face. Each man lives in his own world of thoughts. Soon enough, the coachman announced that they had arrived at the council. So Mr. Lucas and Kane got out of the carriage and proceeded to the building. As they walked into the building, Kane was staring at every corner like he was trying to remember the place, while Mr. Lucas looked around for Micah, the council's receptionist. "Ah, there you are," Mr. Lucas said to Micah. "Mr. Lucas, what a lovely surprise to see you." "What brings you here, and how may I help you?" Micah said, "full of sweet smiles." "I am here to meet with the lords and ladies of the council. "I have a rather pressing issue to discuss with them." "Is he with you?" "Yes, he is." "Alright then, just you wait here while I go inform them of your presence." Micah said, and then he went upstairs to the council chambers. "My lord, Mr. Lucas, is here to meet with all of you." "He says it is a rather pressing issue," he said, and he waited for a response. A man who had a dark but powerful aura around him, seemingly the most powerful and also the most solitary amongst them, spoke with an air of sovereignty, "Let them in." His grey eyes, which looked like ice, were colder than snow, and they looked like they lacked life. I'm them. His jet-black hair made him stand out like the devil. Adorned in Cesar's clothing, his well-chiseled body made him look nothing less than a Greek god. His name was Lord Ryan, the head of the council and king of the vampires. Micah left to tell Mr. Lucas after being granted an audience by the council. Slowly, Mr. Lucas and Kane made their way up to the council chambers. Mr. Lucas opened the door and made his way into the chambers while Kane followed suit. "Good morning, dear lords and ladies of the council," Mr. Lucas said with a bow, and he urged Kane to do so too. "Good morning, everyone." Kane's brief and cryptic greeting drew furrowed brows from irritated councillors. Everyone was ready to cruxify Kane for his manner of greeting, but when they turned to see Lord Ryan's reaction, they were met with a rather unfazed expression. It was usually hard to tell what Lord Ryan was thinking about as he never showed his emotions, so they all decided to compose themselves. "What brings you here, and who is the man with you?" Lord Ryan questioned Mr. Lucas. Mr. Lucas then reiterated the events of yesterday, including how he met Kane in the bush on his hunt for blood with Elsa and how he helped him and brought him to his house. The council lords all listened to what Mr. Lucas had said and digested every piece of information while occasionally sipping on their blood wine. "Who are you and where do you come from?" Lord Ryan asked Kane. "My name is Kane, and I am from the North," Kane replied. "How did you find yourself in Mythville?" "I was on a journey with my friends when we were attacked by a werewolf." "I see; were you bitten by the were?" "No, my Lord." "We would have to carry out some tests on you to prove that." Lord Ryan called for the Council's doctor to come and carry out a test on Kane. After a rigorous series of tests, he was found clean. "Are you human?" Lord Ryan asked. "Yes, I am." Lord Ryan didn't seem to reply to his answer and then looked away. After several minutes, the council decided to let Kane live with Mr. Lucas and his family until they figured out what to do with him. Mr. Lucas and Kane thanked them and bade them farewell. Lord Ryan said to Kane as they thunderously approached the chambers' exit door.If for anything, I know that you are not human; you are not a vampire either; and you don't smell like a "wolf." I will find out who you are, but until then, don't hurt Elsa or anyone else in the Lucas building. "I have my eyes on you!" His voice sent chills down the spines of everyone, and Mr. Lucas made a mental note to be wary of Kane. That was how Kane began living with Lucas in Mythville. 12 years later. A lady is seen adjusting her hair in front of a mirror. She is very beautiful, with meek features and sprinkles of innocence. Her beautiful green eyes complimented her perfect blond hair. She had pink, rosy cheeks and supple lips, which could make a man not want to kiss her. She was a work of art, a beauty to behold. Her collar bone made it hard for her to be irresistible, but perhaps her well-shaped breast made it harder. Despite her beauty, she was the weakest vampire in the land, so she was protected like an egg. "Elsa, where are you?" Hurry; we don't want to be late. Her mother called out to her. She had gotten a special invitation from Lord Ryan, who was now crowned King Ryan. Her mother didn't want her to be late, so she wouldn't form a bad impression. "Mama, I'll be down in a few minutes. Please allow me some time." She took one final look at herself in the mirror and concluded she was ready. She then made her way out of the road so she could join her mother outside. "Mother, I am ready." "Alright, let's go." They hopped into the carriage, and the coachman set out for the palace. They arrived at the king's court. They were met by some maids, who took them inside. Everyone seemed to be expecting Elsa. They came before King Ryan and asked to bow their heads to him. "You may rise," his every authoritative voice said to them. And they did. "How are you, Mrs. Lucas?" "I'm very well, my king." "Elsa?" "Yes, my king?" "How are you doing?" "I'm fine, your Majesty. "" How are you doing?" King Ryan was stunned by Elsa's question about his welfare, but of course he didn't let it show. "I am fine." We've been having issues with rogue wolves for a while. "Our latest discovery is the existence of witches in the land." "Witches?!" Elsa said almost in a high voice. "Yes, witches." Although we do not yet know what their purpose or mission is, we are still working on "I fear there may be an invasion soon." Elsa said in one breath: "Come with me, Elsa, if you don't mind, Mrs. Lucas," King Ryan said. "No, your majesty, you don't need to ask." Mrs. Lucas said in between giggles and sweet smiles. That being said, Elsa was taken away by the king. They walked into the garden in silence until King Ryan turned to her and said, "How is Kane doing?" "He is fine, your majesty." "Ever since he came into our lives, it's been such a tremendous help." "What kind of things does he help out with?" "He helps Father at the workshop; he cuts wood and keeps us all company." "I want you to be very careful, Elsa." He is not who you think he is. "What do you mean, your majesty?" "He isn't a human as perceived, nor is he a vampire." He is more or less a werewolf in disguise. "I'm still working on it." "Your majesty, I really hope it isn't true." "Why?" "He's like family now." "Come, let's go to the dungeon." With that, they both headed to the dungeon. The dungeon reeked of blood and death. The guards bowed their heads when he came in and took them to the place where the werewolf was kept hostage. "Is he?" Elsa said to Lord Ryan. "Yes, he is." "He was found early this week trying to kill someone." "What do you intend to do with him?" "Collecting information first, then delivering him to the moon goddess." Elsa's face got pale as soon as she found out what his last sentence meant. He then took her over to the witches. But they didn't interact with them. With that, they left the dungeon. "What would you love to have for breakfast?" Lord Ryan asked her. "I have already had my breakfast, your majesty." "You had breakfast before you came to the palace?" "Why?" "I am sorry, your majesty; I didn't know I was to be honored with the privilege of having breakfast at the palace." His icy grey eyes met with her lemon-green eyes, and he just chuckled. "OK then, let me see you off." Her visit to the palace was short. She and her mother thanked the king for hosting them at the palace before leaving. He in turn gave them gifts for Calhoun and their father. They hopped on the ride home, during which Elsa fell asleep. A few minutes later, her mom gently woke her up. "Elsa, dear, we are home," her mother said. She woke up, stretched her body, and got out of the carriage. The environment was very quiet, but Mrs. Lucas thought it was because everyone was sleeping. When she entered the house, she was met with a s*******r scene. Her husband lay dead on the floor with his head bleeding. Calhoun's body parts were all over the place, as if he had been ripped apart by a wolf. Every other maid, including the butler, was dead. The house was painted with blood. Her family just got annihilated. She let out a loud scream, which made Elsa hurry into the house, but she halted her steps as soon as she saw the sight before her. Her mother suddenly collapsed. "Mother, mother, please wake up." We have to leave now. It's not safe for us. "Please wake up," Elsa said, almost crying. When she didn't get a response, she took her mother's wrist and tried to look for a pulse. When she didn't find a pulse, she bent down to listen to her mother's heartbeats, but she didn't hear anything. That was when she confirmed her mother was long gone. She looked around for Kane but found no one, so she decided to head back to the palace and report this scene to the king. She was a mental mess; she was so devastated. But she managed to make her way to the carriage. She met with a dead coachman. Without thinking, she ran out of the compound and was accompanied by werewolves chasing behind her. She was the weakest in the land, but she employed her vampire strength, which sustained her during her marathon until she noticed they weren't after her anymore. She slowed down. The only things that could be heard were her staggering breath intakes and the thudding of her heart. She was terrified to her very bones as she desperately tried to find her way through what appeared to be an endless maze. She couldn't understand why those rogue werewolves were after her life; she hadn't offended anyone since she was a child, and everyone loved her for her kind attitude. "Could they be the ones who killed my parents?" She thought to herself. She was very sure those were sent by someone to attack her. She then heard the movement of twigs behind her, which she ignored, thinking them to be squirrel movements. But soon they developed into running footsteps, and she in turn did not hesitate to take off. She ran without looking back. While running, she didn't notice a log of wood in front of her. "Ouch!" She came tripping, and she was in so much pain as she had just sprained her ankle. She couldn't allow me to die now, and definitely not here. She was terrified and in pain, but her train of thought came to a halt when she heard cacklings ahead of her.She looked up at the face of a familiar figure who smiled and then said, "Did you really think you could run from me, huh?" Elsa? The figure before her question her seemed to be unable to find her voice; she was visibly shocked in her marrow. "Kane? Why him? "I trusted him with everything, so he killed my family?" The voice in her head rang repeatedly. She refused to believe this. But then, suddenly, gunshots were heard, and before I knew what else was happening, he had disappeared. Thanking her ancestors for keeping her, she dove into a dilemma: "So Kane killed my parents, after everything we did for him?" It seems King Ryan was right. "I must report this to the palace," she thought to herself. She needed some time to cool off and recover from what she had just seen. She had been scarred for life. She was a total mess, as she couldn't even think straight. She sat down for a while to cry before slowly making her way out of the maze to the palace. After what seemed like hours of trying to get out of the maze, she finally came out of it and began making her way to the palace. The guards and maids were surprised to see her because she had just left the palace earlier. But now she looked rather disheveled. She approached the guards and asked if she could meet with King Ryan, but she was denied access as his majesty was not around. She was advised to meet with the council. In her desperation, she could only exhale. She asked for water, which she was given. She thanked them and left for the council. After a few minutes, she walked into the council building. Not much had changed except for the fact that someone was now in charge of the council. As she approached the council building, she heard blood-curdling screams from a door away. "They must be feasting on another human," she thought sadly before forcing a sweet smile on Micah. As soon as she saw him, he was furiously typing on his typewriter. "Good evening, Micah, "I'm here to meet with the council." "Do you have an appointment with them?" "No, I don't." "But I have to meet them right now because it's pretty urgent." After she said that, he looked up at her through his pilot's frame in a skeptical manner. "What is the matter, Elsa?" He asked her with concern in his voice, noticing she wasn't in order. "I'm sorry, but I can't say much about this sensitive information without first meeting with the council."I'm sorry," she said and passed him a pathetic look while trying so hard not to cry. "Okay, okay, follow me," he said. They walked along the eerie stairs to meet the council. "My Lords, Elsa, the daughter of Adams, is here to meet with you." She claims to have sensitive information that she must first divulge to the council as it is very urgent. Micah announced her presence. "What kind of information does she have?" "She had better have something good to make up for our feast interruption," the council members chattered amongst themselves. "Let her in at once!" Lord Ray, who was the new head of the council and the most powerful amongst them, said to Micah, and, without waiting for Micah to relay the message, Elsa helped herself into the room. "Good evening, Council Lords and Ladies, the moon pack is about to evade Mythville, and Kane is leading them," she said all at once, almost running out of breath. Kane? "The same young man that you brought to Mythville years ago, claiming he was in despair and needed a home?" Lord Ray questioned her with a hint of rage in his voice. She knew it was going to come down to this, but what she cared for most at that moment was the safety of her people, the vampires. She was already serving her punishment, as her entire family was dead and gone. She didn't know if she was to tell them that or wait for the king himself to come. "Y-ee-sss, Lord Ray, it is him," she said, almost trembling; "he is their alpha now," she continued. "Do you know what you have done?" We welcomed a stranger into our land on account of your honesty. "We showed him our way of life because we trusted that you would trust him, and now he is coming to attack us?" Lord Ray had let all hell loose. "I'm so sorry, Lord Ray; I honestly didn't know he was someone like that. I just told my dad to help him because he looked like he actually needed it. Everything my dad told him about him that day was a reiteration of what he had told him, and a part of my dad felt he was telling the truth: "I was too young to understand." "I am sorry," she pleaded. The Council members didn't utter a word, but she didn't miss their death glares. The ladies of the council looked at her like they wanted to feast on her. like it was personal. "You may leave." "Thank you for the information; we will send for you when we need you, as soon as the king comes back." Lord Ray said goodbye to Elsa. "Lord Ray?" "Yes?" "He killed my family too." "He murdered my family because he was gay; others wanted to have their way with my brother, but he refused." "My father walked onto the scene before he attacked them." This time, Elsa said as tears welled up in her eyes. "How did you know this?" Lord Ray asked, visibly shaken by her confession. Lord Ray was really moved. "A maid told me, just before she died." "I am sorry, but you may leave now." He dismissed her despite her shocking revelations, because he didn't want to be seen as weak-hearted. And she left. Micah, get me the witches! Lord Ray said to Micah There was a widespread gasp in the room while she hurried to leave. "Sir, you can't release the witches without the king's permission." Micah reasoned with Lord Ray. "OK, send word to the king about what just happened," said Lord Ray to Micah. "I am just a receptionist, my Lord." The king wouldn't like me delivering messages to him directly. "Especially sensitive messages like that," Micah said. Although his true reason for not going was because he was afraid of the king's death, Lord Ray sensed the truth in what Micah said, so he dismissed him. "You may go." "Thank you very much, my Lord." Elsa left the building with no idea where to go, but she knew she couldn't go home because it wasn't safe anymore!
