Chapter 1 : The Unfinished Book
A Love Story That Defies Time By Santhosh Vishwamitra --- Chapter 1: The Unfinished Book The bookstore smelled of old paper and warm coffee, a perfect escape from the chaos of the outside world. The dim lights flickered softly, casting a golden hue over the wooden bookshelves. Aarav traced his fingers along the spines of novels, lost in thought, when his eyes fell on her. She sat by the window, completely engrossed in her notebook. Her fingers moved gracefully over the pages, scribbling furiously, as if the words were too impatient to stay inside her mind. Her deep brown hair cascaded over her shoulders, hiding her face, but the intensity of her posture intrigued him. For some reason, he couldn’t look away. She had the aura of a woman who carried a universe inside her—a thousand emotions, a million stories. Aarav pulled out his sketchbook without thinking, his fingers moving instinctively, capturing the essence of the woman who had unknowingly captivated him. Every line, every stroke, breathed life into the sketch. The way her lips pursed slightly when she concentrated. The way her eyelashes fluttered as she read what she wrote. The way her fingers danced over the paper, lost in a world of their own. Time melted away as he sketched. The sound of pages flipping, of soft murmurs between customers, of jazz music playing faintly in the background—it all faded. It was just him, his pencil, and the girl who didn’t know she had become art. Then, she looked up. Her deep brown eyes locked onto his. Aarav froze, caught red-handed. She tilted her head, curious. “You do realize staring is rude?” she asked, her voice laced with amusement. Aarav hesitated for a second before smirking. “I wasn’t staring. I was memorizing.” She raised an eyebrow. “Memorizing?” Aarav turned his sketchbook around, revealing what he had drawn. A perfect portrait of her—lost in thought, mid-dream, mid-magic. Her eyes widened. For a moment, she was speechless. Then, slowly, her lips curved into a small smile. “That’s... really good,” she admitted. “Thanks,” he said, watching her carefully. “And you… you’re writing something?” She hesitated. “Yeah. A book.” “What’s it about?” She exhaled, looking out of the window. “A love story.” “Ah.” Aarav leaned forward, intrigued. “A happy one or a tragic one?” Her eyes flickered with something unreadable. “I haven’t decided yet.” Aarav grinned. “Then maybe I can convince you to choose love.” She rolled her eyes but laughed. “And what makes you think love is the right choice?” “Because,” Aarav said, meeting her gaze, “some stories deserve happy endings.” And just like that, something shifted between them. Something neither of them could explain. Something that felt like the beginning of a story too big for either of them to control. —Santhosh Vishwamitra --- Next Chapter: A Coffee, A Confession "What if love was just a conversation away?"
