It was a small town and the people would look at you and just frown. I got kinda scared so I caught up with Shane and stayed close to his side, "Why is this town so. . . dead? And the people so unfriendly?" I asked taking another look around.
"Well their town was invaded a few years back by vampires, they managed to strike a deal, they would leave if the villagers would allow any vampire to walk in and live here. They agreed and well now every vampire that comes gets. . . .discriminated for a lack of a better term." I sighed and kept up speed with Shane.
We came to a stop outside an old store; it had no name but just well kinda like a weird magic shop with candles and incense littering the shelves. Shane opened the door and the bell rang. He walked straight up to the counter and I just walked around. There were tubes with toads and snakes and other creepy stuff. Let's just say whatever you suspect to see in a magic shop was here. Herbs where most probably the only thing that wasn't creepy in this store.
I was looking at the books on the shelf when my eyes were caught by the shimmering light of something. It seemed to be the only light in the room, to tell the truth. I couldn't move my eyes away from it, I felt......drawn to it.
When I got closer I saw a silver thin chain hanging off of a red stone hand. I looked closer at it to see a Dagger in a circle with lines shooting out of the circle. It was beautiful and the worse thing was I didn't seem to have the strength to pull away from it.
"I see you are drawn to the leader's sign," I finally could take my eyes away from the necklace and look up at. . .Oh my god! It was the girl from the first night I went hunting! Her bronze skin was more elegant now and her hair tied back. She had amazing almond eyes and the most loving voice I've ever heard. I'm surprised she's running a*****e at her age!
"Um....." I didn't know what to say but she put her hand in the air indicating I had no need to keep going.
"You are the princess? Well then, you will truly be a leader, one that the vampires have been longing for and those who think they can kill without consequences have not been longing for," Shane was standing beside her and clearly not happy with what wearing that necklace is for. "The symbol represents the makings of a true leader. The dagger is for courage, the circle if for love and forgiveness and the lines shooting out is for....well that is for you to decide," I was confused but really I just want to get the hell out of here. She took the necklace from the hand and tied it around my neck, "Go now and fulfill your role,"
All I could do was muster a nod and walked out of the store as Shane stayed and talked to her. I leaned against the shop window looking down at the necklace.
"The princess lives! She lives!" my head snapped up at an old man with his hands pressed together as if he were praying. "You must change.....change what has happened, make it right!" I looked at him confused, ok maybe this whole princess thing is harder than it sounds.
Another woman came and pulled the man away. Humans are depending on me now too? Crap! That just sucks. A whole lotta people bout to be massively disappointed, I can tell you that now.
"Hey, you ok?" I jumped as Shane placed his hand on my shoulder.
"Yeah, can we go please?" he nodded and we walked back to the woods.
We still had another three hours left until dark. We sat down in the same spot as before and I rested my head against a tree, my sister! I have to see her, I need to at least say bye! "Shane, I need to see my sister!" he looked down at the floor and then walked over to me.
"Brie....your sister's in a coma, she won't wake up," my eyes widened and I jumped to my feet.
"What?! But you guys promised you wouldn't hurt her!"
"We didn't, it was just what happened, I'm sorry," tears never fell mainly because I knew she wouldn't have to worry about me.
"But....but I still want to see her," I said looking down at the floor.
"You can't, I'm sorry," I know I should be protesting but something inside me told me I didn't have time for it now. I had a job and it was my destiny. I sat back down and Shane sat next to me. Not long now until I'm changed. I guess everything comes with a price. I wonder if my mother knew about all this and my father. Then my thoughts wandered back to the song my mother used to sing so softly to me.
What if they were still alive? Would I still be put in the position? Would I even know I was the vampire princess? Would I meet James and the rest of them? Would I of ever slept with Shane? Would I have ever known about the night's secrets? Would I of ever known that all the things we fear as children are really real?
I curled up and closed my eyes. I don't want to be changed by some stranger, I want to be changed by someone I know, anyone I know! But I guess in real life we never get what we want......but is this even real life?
I felt Shane place his hand on my back and I knew I wanted him to change me. He was sitting up and I rolled over and sat on his lap, "Change me, Shane, please?" he held onto my waist and sighed.
"You know I can't-" I cut him off.
"Please I want you too, I don't want some stranger......I want you! Please!?! Don't let this happen," he looked deeper into my eyes and I pleaded with them some more, "Shane I'm asking you for this only,"
"Brie I can't, I . . . I just......its better off that way."
"Is it? You said I was your girl before, but I won't really be if that....person changes me!" He tried to speak but he closed his mouth and just looked at me.
"I'm sorry I can't," I couldn't give up, I won't give up!
"Shane, if you have any feeling's for me.....you'll be the one to change me," he just looked at me with mixed emotions in his hazel eyes. "Please Shane?"
His hand moved from my waist to hold the back of my neck, "Why me? Why do you want it to be me?"
I looked back into his eyes and just spoke whatever I was feeling, "Because of...... I feel connected with you, you're the only one who hasn't hurt me, the only one who's there when I need someone," I took a deep breath and let it out shakily.
Please believe me, Shane! Please! It's the truth! I thought over and over. He lowered my head and kissed my lips softly before he whispered something into my ear, "There's no going back, I'm not perfect Brie . . . are you sure?"
I can't believe I'm saying this but to me whatever he does he can never make me regret choosing him to change me. He's the only one I can see changing me.
"Try to disappoint me," I whispered back. "Becuase I don't think you ever can."
He kissed my jawline and I knew for him to change me he must feel things for me, things that I think I feel......for.....him. He moved down to my neck and I thought he would bite but he just placed a kiss there and I closed my eyes with sadness, looks like I was wrong.
But then I felt a sharp pain on the place where he kissed. My eyes shot open and gripped his shirt. My skin parted and I felt him pressing his teeth harder into my skin and my blood being sucked out. I heard him gulping down my blood and by this point, I should have been out cold......but I wasn't.
I muffled my screams and pressed my head harder into his shoulder. His hand left my neck and went to my back supporting me up on his lap. Both his hands pressed me harder against his chest. I couldn't take the pain anymore, I throw my head back with my eyes shut and let out a yell of pain. He was still drinking my blood and my head was still thrown backward. I thought it wouldn't end but then I felt my heart start to slow and I was becoming weak. When I couldn't feel the pain anymore, I tried opening my eyes only to feel them flutter closed again.
"Sh...Shane," I just managed to moan. He pulled away holding me in his arms so I wouldn't fall backward. He took me from his lap and placed me on the ground holding my neck. My eyes were growing heavier each second that passed.
He brought his wrist up to his mouth and I thought he was going to bite it but he licked it and brought it to my mouth.
"Extend your fangs," he said smoothly. I don't know how I managed to do it but I did. He cut his wrist on my fangs and then placed his bleeding wrist to my mouth.
I just realized his eyes were white and his fangs had some of my blood still on their tips. The minute his blood touched my lips it felt like an electric shock. My eyes widened and my mouth opened. My hands took hold of his and I pressed his wrist harder to my mouth.
Every time his blood hit the back of my throat I would get a sharp pain in my eyes, in my legs, in my arms.....everywhere, just like before except it was slower and I was awake for it, but....this isn't what James told me before about when you change someone into a full vampire.
Just like that, I blacked out. Pain all of a sudden taking over my entire body. I couldn't open my eyes but I could scream and I did. I felt Shane's hands press down on my shoulders holding me still on the ground.
"It'll be over soon, just keep holding on." he was right, the pain stopped and I blacked out for good for the last time.
