After two decades, they let us out. Without warning, a week after my forty-eighth birthday, the guards herded us after breakfast to the processing centre of our prison. We were locked into large group cells and one-by-one taken out for a medical examination, given a shower and a fresh set of clothes, a wrist-band with some credits, and assigned a case officer.
The case officers arranged for transport to take us to accommodations, but they refused to answer any questions regarding our abrupt release.
