Daphne’s POV My head throbbed—sharp, pulsing pain that refused to fade. But I didn’t want Miles to worry. He said he’d be back soon… but how long had it been? Should I call him? Or just wait? I pushed the covers off and sat up slowly, fighting the dizziness that made the room spin around me. Every part of me felt heavy, like my body was made of lead. Still, I forced myself to stand. Then I felt it—wetness on my lips. I brought trembling fingers to my mouth and stared at the smear of red on my skin. Blood. My eyes widened. “Oh no…” I whispered, panic clawing at my chest.
