Miles’s POV What have I done? What the hell did I just say? My heart pounded in my chest as the weight of my words crashed down on me like a tidal wave. I ran a hand through my hair, fingers trembling, frustration bubbling beneath my skin. I can’t tell her. Not now. Not this secret. What was I thinking? “I’m going to ask you again, Miles,” Daphne snapped, her voice sharp and laced with fury. “What the f**k did you do?” I couldn’t bring myself to speak. My mouth opened, but no sound came out. I’d shot myself in the foot. No—I’d blown it clean off with that reckless slip. “I—I’m losing my mind, okay?” I finally blurted, desperation clawing at my throat. “I don’t know what’s gotten into me. I don’t even understand why I said what I said, Daphne. I don’t know why I’m acting like this.”
