Abrianna's P.O.V
"Abrianna. As leader of this pod, I allow you to attend school on land. I have already to talkd to the leader of the Vampire coven and the Alpha of the Werewolves. They both agreed to allow you to attend their public school. Both Leaders also agreed they will not reveal your secret." I bow my head in respect and reply with simple "Yes Mina."
Her delicate fingers lift my head up and scolds me while doing so. "Abrianna you don't have to bow. You're the one who deserves respect." I open my eyes only to be met with darkness, a sad smile placed upon my face as I take in her words. The darkness surrounds me, its been so long since i’ve seen the beautiful coral reef or the smile of my leader and people. It’s felt like forever but in reality it’s been a few years at most.
"Goodbye Abrianna. You may return whenever you please. Just remember the Alpha of the Nightshade pack will watch over you. He is up by the edge of the ocean with his mate, waiting for you so he can help you to your small cottage." With a curt nod I swim over to my best friend Aqua, her aura almost overwhelming. "Come on. You'll swim me to the edge of the ocean right?" My voice was weak and frail. "Wouldn't miss it for the world".
Aqua was never one to lie as she could never truly hide how she felt. Her voice once filled with so much cheeriness and happiness is laced with sadness. The thought of how me leaving affected her made my stomach turn. Aqua loops her arm with mine and helps guide me to the forbidden area. 'Why can't I be normal?' I thought. 'I'd be a lot happier.'
Soon we came to a halt. She unlooped her arm from mine and pressed a chaste kiss to my forehead. The feeling of love enveloped me and for the first time today I felt good about my decision .Just as I thought she had swam away her arms pull me into a warm and forgiving hug. We stayed like that for awhile. I felt so safe in her arms, after all she's all I have. She was the only good thing left in this unforgiving world. My grip tightened around her as I knew very well this could possibly be the last time I hug her. The last time I hear her beautiful voice.
Slowly she pulled away, the feeling of warmth leaving my body as our hands left each other. With a soft and bitter laugh I gripped the wooden dock and pulled my body up, my tail making a splashing sound as it kicked out of the water only to plop onto the dock with a loud ‘plop’ sound. Shifting into a more comfortable position I close my blinded eyes to help concentrate.
Taking a deep breath I slowly began to feel the tingle of my tail and knew it was dissipating into thin air. The weight of my tail was no more and in its stead was two flimsy human legs. Standing up I began to wobble, my unused human legs shaking from being used for the first time in years. Carefully I moved my hands brush the dirt off my legs and pull my shorts down along with the baggy top that rested on my frail shoulders.
Unlike other creatures mermaids (or sirens depending on which you choose to be called) don’t lose their clothes when we shift, instead we gain some basic garments as when we’re in our natural form we only need a top. After taking a few minutes to acquaint myself with this form, I began listening for the voices of the Alpha and Alpha female better known as the Luna. I could hear soft laughter and the voice of a male. Upon the couple getting closer I could feel their authority as Alpha’s of the Nightshade pack.
Straightening my shoulders I bow and put a fist over my heart as a sign of respect. "Abrianna?" The Luna asks. "Yes Luna." A huffing sound comes as she begins to speak. "Do not call me Luna. Call me Laura. You have a higher respect from me than I give to my husband". I let a small smile creep onto my tan face.
A small, fragile hand slips into mine and tugs me into a direction away from the wooden dock and onto the sandy beach. My curiosity gets the best of me as I began to picture the outside world. The only issue is the only things I can picture is war and darkness."What does it look like Luna?" My hand squeezes her a little harder as I asked. "What do you mean"? Confusion laced in her voice.
"The sky, trees and water.” My words are shaky. “Everything. What does it look like?" I may not have been blind before but with each passing day I seem to forget what the world looks like. Minutes pass by before she replies, the silence achingly painful. And then, her voice fills my ears and I couldnt help but feel grateful "The Trees. They're emerald green. The water sparkles and dances. The Sky. It can't be described. Different days have different colors. It's like a paint canvas. It's so beautiful". Laura's voice laced with amazement and sweetness.
My heart skips a beat as memories slip into my head, but as soon as they’re there, they slip away just like everything in life does. But nonetheless, I was thankful to her for trying.
"Alpha?" He gives a soft humm in resonse aknowledging my question. "What's your name. I never really learned?” A rumble of a noise emits from him which can only be described as laughter. It was almost contagious a small giggle escaped the Luna.
"My name is Jeremy young Warrior, you're welcome to call me that too if you please".
While being blind has its perks, such as heightened senses, it also heightens my clumsiness. Tripping over what I can assume is either a branch or a large rock I fall to the ground and scrape my bare knees. I cry out softly as a quick jab of pain sears through my knee. A cool liquid gracing my hand. I slowly move to sit on my bum before inhaling lightly Honey are you alright?" Laura asks, her hands gripping my shoulders gently. I nodded, not giving a verbal answer. Deciding these two people were safe to show I use my index finger to make multiple motions knowing the water would obey my silent command.
Although the water contains salt it doesnt have any affect towards me. If anything the smell of the salt water reminds me of my home. My knee was soon clean and already healed. A smile forms once again on my face as Jeremy’s big hand helps pull me up
."How did you do that?" He questions, pride swelling through my chest as I realize Alpha’s almost always know the answer. "Well, the Moongodess gave me it. People really believe that the Moongodess is only involved in werewolves lives. But she also controls the tides." I pause. so hey can take in what I'm saying before continuing. "The tides can reck our home. Therefore she is also acquainted with Merfolk just like Poseidon. I came into her good grace she gave me three gifts." I responded.
Two dainty hands grab my arms and shake me rapidly while squealing "What are the other two?!" I simply chuckle and put my finger up to my lips in a shushing motion. “That’s a secret.” The sound of Jermey’s laughter was enough to pull me away from all my previous thoughts
Soo.n we arrived at our destination. I hear the sound of shuffling then the creaking sound of the house's wooden door. Animals move all around us as we enter the old cottage. "Well, this is your house. It's also in our pack territory so you don't have to worry about rouges. Every once in a while a few will slip in but the patrol will get rid of them". Jeremy warns. Laura guides me in, her hand slipping to my right shoulder and Jermey’s on my left. "Sweetie. You have school tomorrow too. We'll give you a ride in the morning be ready by seven thirty a.m." Her voice is warm and comforting just like a Luna’s should be.
With a chaste kiss to my temple, both of the Alpha’s leave my new cottage and home leaving me alone to my thoughts and haunting memories.
