Chapter 2
‘Thump. Thump,’ I found myself startled from my sleep when our sedan rolled over a set of train tracks. “About 20 more minutes to the airport Miss. Owens.” I heard Mark say as I rub my eyes, waking from my peaceful siesta. “Thank you.” I tell him, as he nods to me with a small smile on his face. I had always loved Mark; he is a great friend and one of my Father’s trusted warriors. My Father required Mark to deliver me to campus to ensure the commitment of Alpha Aaron to keep me safe and unharmed while I attended the college that is just on the outskirts of his territory. He has a number of pack members that attend the local college. I am told he takes pride in his pack’s education and donates heavily to this particular college as it lies just outside of his territory.
We arrive at the airport's long term parking area that is packed to the brim. Mark helped me gather my bags as he only had a carry-on himself. He plans to make a turnaround trip the next day after offloading me to my dorm room today. We boarded the plane with minimal wait time, our flight was on time and our flight staff is highly efficient. The plane has three seats on one side and two on the other. A fairly large plane filled with humans, werewolves, witches and alike. The humans are completely unaware of who surrounds them. There is a truce among all shifters that air travel is to be completely safe and there is to be absolutely no shifting allowed, ever. If you think about it, a shifted wolf would be like having a wild animal break free on an airplane. Picture it for a minute, yeah never a good idea.
Mark and I sat on the two seat side of the plane with myself getting the window seat, for protection of course. As the plane took off I looked out the window watching the clouds go by, it was truly beautiful. The plane was cold so I put on a small cardigan, it is a nice fabric soft and in a dusty pink. The pilot announced we would be landing soon. The plane ride was shorter than the car ride, which was nice. I get out of my seat as Mark hands me my other carry-on from the overhead compartment. We exit the plane slowly as there are a few passengers that need extra assistance. The aisle is snug so I can see how it would be challenging for them, as I am struggling myself with my rolling carry-on and tote. We walk in the direction of baggage claim. This part of the airport just plain smells bad. There are so many faces moving about looking to snag their bags. I am so glad I have colorful bags because all of the plain black bags coming off the conveyor makes people grab bags and return bags more than one would like. My 3 bags start to come around to us. I snag one as Mark grabs the other two. I am glad to have a strong swift warrior with me today. Baggage claim makes me feel like I am in a wolf's den, pun intended.
Bags in hand we head over to the yellow car rental sign. Mark specifically asked for a white sedan. White to let people know we come in peace and a sedan as they are easier to move about than a large suv. I am so glad it has a large trunk for my bags. As we load the car, Mark’s cell phone dings. “Alpha just messaged that we will not be able to meet Alpha Aaron today. Alpha Aaron said he will meet you on moon’s eve.”
“Moon’s Eve?” I inquired.
Mark shrugs, unsure of the significance. “Alpha said his Gamma’s Daughter will meet us on campus.”
We get into our car and head towards the campus.
I am a little nervous as I have not ventured far away from our pack for obvious reasons since I was a little girl.
Mark sensing my nervousness “Alexandra everything is going to be just fine.”
I chuckle and c*ck an eyebrow “Hey, what happened to Miss. Owens?”
He smiles, “I wanted to be sure I had your attention.”
Mark never uses my first name unless it is really important. He knows it is disrespectful for a warrior to speak to an Alpha's heir without using a title. His words did calm me a little and I was able to doze off for a short bit. The ride to campus was not as long as our early morning ride to the airport. I am glad for that, as I did not want it to be dark when I was hauling in my bags to my dorm.
