Blurb

They kissed before they knew they were family. Now, living under one roof, they’re trying to forget what never should’ve happened—while longing for it all over again.

Lena thought moving into a new house in a new town with her mom was the worst thing that could happen until she found out that the mysterious, brooding boy she kissed at the pool was now her stepbrother. Lena found love where she shouldn’t have found love in the arms of her stepbrother, but he is off-limits as he goes from cold to hot, loving today, ignoring her tomorrow, but every glance, every touch, and every accidental moment alone stokes the fire between them.

Living together with a wall separating their rooms, will they honor their parents' marriage and keep their hands to themselves? Torn between duty and desire, Lena must navigate secrets, scandal, and a house that’s far too small for forbidden feelings.

Chapter one
The first time I saw him, I didn’t know he would ruin me, and I didn’t know he would be an important part of my life, and after falling for him, now I can’t have him. I also didn’t know my life was going to be uprooted like an unwanted weed and taken where I didn’t belong. So let’s start from the beginning. “We are moving,” Mom said, wiping her mouth with the napkin. She wore a cute dress; she had started dressing differently lately. Those words shocked me. I waited for a laugh so I could confirm she was joking, but she stared dead into my eyes, looking very serious. “What?” I managed to choke out. Mom sighed, running a hand through her blonde hair, “Look, sweetheart, I know this is sudden, but_” “But nothing, Mom, this is my junior year, you can’t just uproot my life like an unwanted weed again. What about my friends?” Mom’s face softened. I met someone, and he makes me happy, and it's serious. I want a fresh start with him, and the company is opening a branch there, and I was asked to head it, so double win for us.” There was a reason behind all this, someone. I wanted to be mad and throw a tantrum, but if I was being honest with myself, she seemed happier since dad, her recent work trips. She always seemed happier whenever she returned from those. My dad had been gone for a long time, and she had been alone; maybe she deserved this. It doesn’t mean I had to like it. ********* Three weeks later, I stood in front of Willow Heights High, my new school, where everyone already had their friends, their routines, and their lives, and I was the outsider again. That’s when I saw him, tall, his hair looking like he had just gotten out of bed, sharp cheekbones. He leaned against his car laughing at something his friend said. His voice was the kind that made you want to hear it again. He turned his gaze, sweeping over me, and he looked away, but I still felt his eyes on me. Hours went by and I was assigned my classes. At Willow High, they were big on extra-curricular subjects, from sports to drama or poetry. I haven't quite decided yet and I couldn’t ditch it either, so I was going to go through all and pick one by the end of the week. The first was swimming since I didn’t come prepared, the instructor found a not so perfect fit for me, which was too tight, pressing my boobs to my neck and clinging to my body like a second skin, I pull at it and turn to corner running into as and that’s when I run into him colliding with something solid and very much not a wall. I felt his hands steadying me, a breath hitched _mine or his, I wasn’t sure, as I felt hot all over as I was pressed against him. “Well, if you wanted my attention, you could’ve asked... new girl,” he said, a dangerous smirk plastered on his face. “I lifted my chin, my face merely inches away from his, “What gave it away that I was new?” ‘’The lost look in your eyes.” I scoffed, pushing him off. “I’m not lost, I'm heading to the pool.” “And the fact that I saw you coming out of the principal’s office with the handbook, so I figured.” I rolled my eyes, walking towards the pool. “See you around new girl,” I heard him call from behind me. I’m not a good swimmer, but I have an idea of what I’m doing. “Don’t be scared, they don’t really take this seriously, you just need to show up twice a week, you don’t have to get into the water,” the girl next to me says I take in her soft features blonde with a cute smile. “I’m not scared, just stuck in a very uncomfortable bathing suit.” “I’m Bee, we can skip swimming. The perfect time is when Noah comes we can sneak out then no one will even notice we are gone.” I smile…… I just found myself a friend at Willow High, a couple of boys walk into the swimming area, and boy, is that a distraction. “That’s Noah and our time to escape.” Noah is the boy I just had my boobs in his face, and the boy from the parking lot. I can’t help staring at him. His hair is wet from the dive into the pool. I follow Bee out of the pool. I don’t feel scared and nervous the next I walk into the school mom keeps pressuring me to meet her one true love and I’m not there yet, I’m grateful i have Bee we walked over my schedule and we have almost every class together except history, walking into the class early I pick a sit in the far back, before the history teacher walks in his an elderly man in his fifties, ten minutes in someone walks in taking the attention of the whole class. “Nice of you to finally join us, Mr Reyes,” the teacher says. It's Noah in all his glory; he smiles as he walks towards me, sitting next to me. He turns, and I can feel him staring at me. “Why do I keep finding you everywhere?” “Maybe because it’s a school where a lot of people go,” I reply sarcastically, keeping my attention on the teacher. He doesn’t bother me for the rest of the class, but I keep bumping into him everywhere, from the cafeteria to the library, all week. I find my way to the pool, its after school hours so I’m sure its empty Bee couldn’t wait, I change into my swim suit and slip in, I go under I swim at my own pace trying to distract myself from everything going on, mom and her new boyfriend who happens to be a billionaire with a son it’s all just overwhelming. I hadn’t expected to see Noah, but there he was in the deep end alone, his body moving through the water effortlessly. He grinned when his eyes met hers. “Are you stalking me now?” I roll my eyes, “You wish.” “I see you everywhere.” “Again, it’s a public school,” I remind him. “What are you doing here alone?” “I could ask you the same thing.’ “I like the quiet,” he said, swimming towards me. “So you are a broody swimmer, got it,” “And you are the girl who keeps looking at me like you are trying not to.” I stiffened. I didn’t expect him to say that, “I’m not... I should go,” I start to swim away, but his voice stops me. “Somehow I feel better when I’m close to you, I usually come here to swim when I have too much going on… just family issues,” he scratches his head, contemplating if he would tell me more. “My dad found a girlfriend after years of my mom leaving and now he claims he has met the one I overheard him talking about dinner plans and it just messed with my head,” this is the longest we have spoken we always just bump into each other and the tension is always eminent, I think of what to say maybe I should talk about what is going in my life too. “My mom moved us out here to be closer to her girlfriend, and I’m having a hard time adjusting because this isn’t the first time.” “She has had boyfriends who make her move?” “No, we had to move from my childhood home and town because of my dad, it’s a long story I don’t want to go into that,” I think of how to say this without breaking down, “my dad let’s just say he doesn’t handler his drink well.” “At least we have that in common.” We talk more about our broken family, at least we have that in common. “You are staring again,” he moved, closing the space between us. “I’m not trying to scare you, Lena, but if you keep looking at me like that, I’m going to look back.” he was so close now that the tension was so much I could see the droplets on his lashes. “Noah,” my voice comes out as a whisper, I feel his fingers on my lips and he replaces them with his lips I kiss him back my hands going to his hair pulling him close it wasn’t just a kiss, I felt a spark finally catching flames, when he pulls away I groan, then his voice so rough, “I’ve been wanting to do that since the first day I saw you.” He kisses me again, his hands roaming my body and cupping my breast. I open my mouth to tell him I’ve been dreaming of the same thing, too, but my phone buzzes. I pick it up, and it’s a text from my mom. “Dinners at 7, you finally get to meet him, please don’t run away again, it’s going to be a big night.” Another text comes in “Thank you for doing this, I love you Lena,” I can tell his genuinely happy about this, I will suck it up and be nice. Noah, noticing the shift in my face, “What is it?” “Just my mom wants me to meet someone,” I step out of the pool, drying myself with a towel. “I will see you around, Lena,” he says, kissing me, and then he leaves. Mom was going overboard with dinner, “he mentioned his son is allergic to garlic, so I made sure there’s no dish with garlic here.” She was rambling and I couldn’t help laughing. I don’t remember the last time I saw Mom this happy about anything. Dad took out her spark. There’s a knock at the door and I know its them mom goes to the door and I hear them laughing as they walk back into the dinning and settling in, I leave the kitchen bringing the last dish to the table, I hear a familiar voice I freeze it can’t be, Noah is here in my house sitting next to a Man im sure its Derek who’s hands are interlocked with my moms, I look to Noah our eyes meet and the plate falls from my hands shattering into a thousand pieces.
