The Lost Princess and Her Mates

I wake up with a jolt covered in sweat. This happens to me more often than I would like. I never remember what I was dreaming about, but I feel like it’s important. I get out of bed and head to the shower as I mentally prepare for my day. My Tuesdays usually consist of cleaning the floors at the pack house. I’m currently part of the Dark Water pack. They found me 16 years ago on the bank of the river that runs through their territory and took me in. Alpha Ben, who has been the alpha since I arrived, asked all the surrounding packs if they had lost a pup, but no one claimed to know where I came from, so the alpha and his luna took me in as part of their family. Alpha Ben and Luna Mary have been my family for as long as I can remember. They have been a nice family, I just know they aren’t my true family. I wish I had any idea of where I came from. Alpha Ben thought when I shifted at 18 they would maybe recognize my wolf and have a better idea on at least what pack I came from but on my first shift, I was found to be an all-white wolf. There hasn’t been an all-white wolf in the past 200 years, so that didn’t really help us figure anything out anything more. The shift itself is never a great memory for me, considering no one knew when my birthday was so it came as a surprise to all of us. I woke up one night in the most pain I have ever been in. Luckily, my adopted sister, Anna, was still living at home, and heard me yelling, so she alerted her dad, Alpha Ben, and they got me outside before I could destroy the whole packhouse. I hear a knock on my door. “Come in,” I yell, figuring it’s just Luna Mary. “Kyra, good morning sweetheart” Luna Mary starts. “I just wanted to let you know that you don’t need to do any chores today. Just come find Alpha Ben and I after you’re done with breakfast, okay?” It’s not unusual for some of the teens to get into trouble and get assigned chores as a punishment, so I just nod my head and tell her I’ll see her soon. Downstairs, I find my best friend Landon and go to sit by him after snagging a few sausages and a banana. “Hey Kyra baby, how’s it going this morning?” Landon asks me. “Can’t complain so far,” I tell him, “some kids must have gotten into some trouble with the alpha 'cause I’m off chore duty today. But tell me how your night was! You toured The Academy, didn’t you?” The Academy is where all wolves go to train when they turn 20. It is also where most wolves meet their mates, since it puts all the younger wolves together at the same place. Since Landon turned 20 last month he gets to go to The Academy in a few weeks. I won't be 20 until almost three more months, so I won't get to go until next semester. Landon gets this shy look on his face before nodding at me. “Yeah, I toured the academy. It was really cool. It seems like it will be a really fun time. They let mates live together if they want to, which everyone does. And everyone was really nice while we were there. I just wish you could maybe come with me.” “Aww Landon, I know, I wish I could come too,” I tell him. “But don’t worry, I’ll be there next semester after I turn 20.” He nods at me, but something is still off. “Hey, Landon?” I ask him “Did something happen while you were there?” His eyes blow big before he sighs. “Yeah, I met my mate, but he didn’t say a single word to me. I just wish I knew what he was thinking. Like if he’s gonna reject me, I wish he would have just gotten it out of the way. Now I’m just overthinking the whole situation, ya know?” Poor Landon, I can’t imagine finding my mate and not knowing if they wanted me or not. “Hey, perk up buttercup, if they can’t see how amazing you are, they don’t deserve you anyway.” We finish our meals while talking about all the fun things Landon is excited to learn at the academy. I tell him I’ll see him at training in a few hours and head toward the alpha's office.
