"Sire, people from town A of Licht has run out of supplies for grain due to the heavy storm 2 days ago. They say supplies for rice will lessen due to the number of destroyed crops. The most affected area by the decreasing amount of grain is town A itself since they mainly rely on their crops as their main assets. " the secretary reported. The king of Avansur sat quietly, thinking through his next action for his people. "Okay. Budget the meals of the palace. Instead of 3 courses in one meal budget it to 1. Deduct the corporation benefits of the companies within the main city. Also.. deduct my son's allowance and the expenses. The gold pieces saved will be given to the villages who were badly affected by the storm." the king said. The door opened as a little girl entered, running from the maids while laughing. "Your highness!" the maids stopped chasing the girl and bowed. "Father! Father!" the little girl ran towards the king and sat on his lap. The king gestured that the secretary and maids leave the hall for them. "Yumi, I thought we talked about not giving the palace maids a hard time. You know they are constantly tired from doing all the chores." the king said with a soft tone. "I know, but-" the girl was cut off as the Queen entered the hall. "Yumi.." the Queen called the little girl as she hid herself in the king's arms. The Queen sighed. "I don't like mommy. She said she wants me to do my own chores like do my bed and clean up my toys after I'm done." she mumbled to the king. "Oh, Yumi.." The king lifted her up and made her stand on the floor. "Your mother really wants you to be independent. So that someday, you can take care of yourself and won't need me and mommy's guidance. Do you understand?" the king continued. "Like when I meet my prince charming and live happily ever after with him?" she said looking up to the king with her deep blue eyes. "No, no. Yumi will stay with daddy and mommy for the rest of her life." the king twitched at what the Yumi said. "Yey! I'd love that! So, mommy and daddy will join the tea party next week?" "um.." "c'mon dear, It'll only be a few minutes." the Queen persisted the King. "Okay." "Yeeey! And big brother, too?" Yumi asked with great expectations in her eyes. "I don-" "Of course, sweetie, we'll have your brother here by next week." "Horay! horay! I gotta get my dress ready for when big bro comes!" Yumi ran out of the hall, leaving the king and queen. "Are you sure about this, Erika?" the king asked. "Our son has been away for quite some time now. I miss him, too, you know. Don't you?" the queen asked. "I do but-" the king stopped mid sentence seeing his queen look at him in a daring way. "Ah, what the heck." the king said, making the queen giggle. "I need to go back to Yumi, dear. That girl needs some control. Plus, Jiro needs his bottle of milk ready. The supplements the doctor prescribed actually worked and now he's more hungry than ever." the queen said, about to leave but the king held her hand that made her look back. "Wait." he said. He pulled her to an old music box, turning it on as the sway started. The queen giggled as she held the king's shoulders, and the king holding her waist. They both started to sway to the music in the big empty hall of the palace. --- "...And that's how the cells in our body function along with the magicules." Chrome ended his discussion as he looked at the class who appear to be half asleep. " ugh. why am I even trying? You guys do know the score you got from our midterms, right?" he murmured to himself. *SF: School bell ring* Everyone stood up from their table and started to regain activeness. "Please don't forget your homeworks and remember next week is our mid- semester off which means you all get one week of break. That's a lot of time to work on your projects and assignments and..." Chrome stopped talking as he noticed the entire classroom was already empty. "why do I even bother?" he said rolling his eyes as he finished cleaning up his things. -- "Hey, Taka! Taka! Taka!" Blythe called out trying to catch up to Taka who was walking faster upon hearing her calls. She held his hand as he looked at her nervously. "Oh, heeeeyy Blythe.. hahaha I didn't know you were near." Blythe? She thought to herself, weirded out that Taka called her by her first name. "Are you avoiding me?" "N-No.. I just have a lot of things I'm going through right now...Sorry. Hey, Cole!" He said then averted his attention to one of their classmates. "Sup, man?" They did their bro handshake and walked away from where Blythe was. She sighed and walked towards the library. Taka looked at her with much doubt in his face while she wasn't looking. -- Blythe stood in the empty library. Kendra's still not coming, huh? The smell of old books and exaggerated novels lingered as she gave out a heavy sigh. "Alright." She started sweeping the floor and mopping it. She cleaned the dusty shelves and the unused tables when she heard footsteps coming. Excitedly, she ran towards where it was coming from only to find Duke standing by the door holding a little girl with blue eyes. "Young Duke!" she exclaimed and ran towards him still holding the duster she used in cleaning. "Stop calling me that. I am your senior, you know." He said as he hit her head lightly. "Ehe.. what brings you here? and.. is she...your child!?" she asked with much enthusiasm. "You're the one who told me I could come by whenever I feel like it. And no. I found this little girl loitering around the lobby while I was on my way to pick up some stuff for the barn. She said her name was Yumi and that she's looking for her brother. " Duke said, looking around while holding Yumi. Yumi got down from Duke's hold and gestured her hands to cover Duke's legs while looking intensely at Blythe. "He is my prince, you got that!?" Yumi said with a cute angry tone. "Oi-" Duke said but Blythe just chuckled. She crouched down to level Yumi. "Of course! Who could ever steal a man from a cute little girl like you?" Blythe said as she pat Yumi's head. Yumi blushed comfortably. That hit the spot right in my chest. This i***t. I would rather you be possessive of me. Duke thought. "Miss.. you can be Yumi's sister!" Yumi said, excited. "Really? That's great! Ah.. but first, don't you wanna find your brother?" Yumi jolted, realizing she has forgotten what she came in the Academy for. Her eyes became teary while looking at Blythe. "Why don't we go find your brother, okay?" "Really? You'll help me big sis?" "Of course!" "A-And prince, too?" Yumi looked at Duke with her eyes trying to say please. Duke sighed and turned around from them. Making Yumi about to burst into tears. "What're you guys waiting for? Let's go." He said looking at them. Yumi and Blythe looked at each other with a smile and followed Duke as they all started walking away from the library. They looked every for Yumi's brother and ended up in the football field. Yumi fell asleep while walking and Duke had to carry her. They asked everyone if they know Yumi but no one responded they do. Now, they are sitting by the field looking at the spellball club as they played. "I'm beat. And Yumi's still asleep." Duke said, as he layed down on the grass. "Sameee" Blythe said as she followed Duke. The three of them laid down on the grass with Yumi in the middle. Blythe suddenly giggled out of nowhere that made Duke look at her. "If I was someone from outside our circle, I'd think we looked like a family." Blythe said making Duke tomato red. "Of course, you'll be the father and I'll be the big sister since you're a lot older than me." "R-right." Duke said embarrassed of what he thought of when Blythe said they looked like a family. -- "Taka, pass!" Taka's teammate, Rem, said, making Taka pass him the ball. He whispered a spell that increased his agility as he ran with the ball to the goal and he kicked it towards an opening. "SCOOOOREEEEE" the red team shouted as they all high fived each other. The white team gathered around them with disappointed faces. "Man, we're never gonna beat you two on the same team." One guy said, holding his neck. "You guys just need practice." Taka said with a smile. "And a friendship that starts all the way from kindergarten! Right, buddy?!" Rem said as he threw his hand around Taka's neck. They all laughed and continued talking as they headed to their club room when Rem noticed Blythe and Duke on the side of the field. "Hey, isn't that girl from your class? Damn.. she's cute. Sadly she has a boyfriend." "Yeah, she is." Taka said as he furrowed his eyebrows. Rem noticed this and gave Taka a light push. "Go." He said with a wide smile, making Taka nod. He walked towards Duke and Blythe who were having a conversation. Yumi was covered by Duke's figure and continued sleeping throughout their silent conversation. "Voci..." Blythe and Duke looked at Taka who was standing with an unexplained expression. "Taka!" Blythe said excitedly, making Yumi wake up and sit straight. "Yumi!?" Taka shouted in shock. Yumi turned to where the voice came from and instantly changed her expression. "Big brother!!" Yumi said, standing up and running to hug Taka. "What a coincidence! So, you were Yumi's big brother after all!" Blythe said with an excited face. "Your highness!" a group of maids ran towards them and bowed down. Your highness? Blythe thought. "Yumi, you ran away from them??What if you've gotten lost!?" "They were so slow and.. it was taking to long and.. I'm sorry. I just wanted to see you really badly. " Yumi said with an apologetic tone. Taka pat her head and knelt down in one knee so she can see his face that wasn't so mad anymore. "Don't do it again, okay?" Taka said, making Yumi smile widely and nod. "Ah!" Yumi ran towards Blythe and Duke, holding their hands. "This is Big sister and this is my Prince!" She told Taka with a smile. "So, you guys were just helping my little sister and are not on a date?" "Not at all! Why would you even think that? hahahaha" Blythe said laughing but Duke didn't respond, making Taka suspicious. "Your hig-" Taka glared at the maid who was about to reveal who he was and instantly discontinued her address to Taka. "We should leave, Yumi." Yumi gloomed at that thought of them leaving. Blythe crouched down to Yumi and pat her head. "You can visit here again, okay? Next time, let's play." Blythe said, smiling while Yumi has started to smile as well. Dusk became much orange than before as Yumi and Taka waved goodbye to Blythe and Duke. "Big brother, I had so much fun today! We went around your school and there were lots of animals and there was even one that looks like baby Jiro!" Yumi stopped talking as she noticed her brother wasn't really listening and was in deep thought. "Big.. brother?" Yumi tugged Taka. "Huh? A-ah... did you? That's great! We better get moving before it gets dark." Taka said, walking ahead of Yumi while still being followed by the servants. -- "I need to go. Sir Gaben asked me to buy some things for the barn." Duke said. "Oh, right. You did mention that before. I gotta go get my papers from the faculty, too." "Alright. See you around." "See ya!" They both turned in opposite directions, walking away from one another. When she was distant enough from Duke, she sighed heavily and touched her back where the seal was. It's been hurting her since they started walking around the campus. She just didn't show. It throbbed so hard, she began to kneel down from the pain. Suddenly, the throbbing and pain stopped, like it didn't happen at all. huh? Well.. how about that? She just shrugged it off and continued walking when she saw a messenger ran towards her. "Letter for Miss Blythe Ainsley. Just place your thumb here please." The messenger said, making Blythe place her thumb on the acceptance slip. Blythe's thumb mark appeared then disappeared into the paper. "Thank you." The messenger said as he ran away from her with speed. Witwew. Now, that's a messenger. Now, what's this? My dear Blythe, I am sorry for being away for a while. After the midterms, I got really sick. I haven't been this sick in ages. The doctors said my body is so fragile, my magicules are barely existent. Even so, I was given supplements for this and I think I'm getting better already. That's why I'm writing to you. I hope you weren't very worried. As an apology for making you wait so long, I'm inviting you to our villa on Monday for a tea party with some people our family is close to. I'm sure you'll be glad to meet tons of people. I've already asked my parents about you staying here and they're fine with it. Here's my address: Block 3 Lot 5 Carmelo Street, 2467 Licht City I hope you consider coming. Love, Kendra P.S I haven't continued reading the novel because I don't feel lile reading without you. Oh, right. We have a week off next week.. One week off, huh? I sure wanna go home for a while. I miss the spicy foods. The thrill those hot chilis give my tongue is one for the record. All I've been eating lately are sweetened bells and food with cheese. Not that they're not good at all, but human food lacks so much spice. No wonder these people are so serious all the time. I guess after the tea party, I still have time to go back home by using the teleportation spell I learned during class. But there's something to watch out after the spell...I guess I'll remember after it happens! Hahahahaha Blythe laughed on her own, going back to her dorm to get ready for the tea party on Monday. -- *SF: knock* "Son?" The Queen said, making Taka look at the door where she came in. "Hey." The Queen closed the door as she let herself in. Taka leaned by the window pane, again, in deep thought. "I just heard from the maids that you were home but you didn't greet us the moment you arrived." "I'm just tired." "Hmm.. Well, that's not how our little boy is.." the Queen teased as she tried to tickle Taka. "Stop it, ma. I'm not a little kid anymore." Taka said brushing off the Queen. She moved to his bed and sat at the corner. "Come here." The Queen said, patting the empty space beside her. Taka sat beside her. "Is something bothering you? Even if you don't tell me all the details, I'd still listen. I am your mother after all." Taka smiled at his mother, noticing how she got older by the years. "I'm..." He hesitated for a while but then completely got sucked into the guilt that he rarely goes home and now, his mother is aging without him knowing. "I'm fine with what or who she is. I didn't mind at all because I like her... Ever since she transferred, the boring Academic life I had became much lively. She always gave me something to laugh about and her smile... damn. That smile could make a thousand soldiers feel so weak on their knees. And when she's with another guy, I could feel my blood boil up. Yeah.. I like her even if she was someone else. But.. we are far too different. There's this huge gap that separates us." Taka thought referring to the fact that he is the crowned prince of the humans and Blythe is the demon princess of the underworld. "I don't know what to do. If I follow what I feel, conflicts will start to arise not just for us but for everyone around us." "Ohohoho my son has a girl he likes? who could it be?" the queen teased. "I'm being serious." Taka said. "Well, son, the solution to your problem is simple. The heart is always the most deceitful part of us. But it is also the most beautiful one. It makes you feel lots of emotions that sometimes it overflows." "That isn't really an answer." Taka said, making the Queen giggle. "Listen, dear. What you feel right now is special and it may only come once in your life. Don't let the people's judgement cloud your happiness." The queen said, standing up as he gave Taka a peck on his forehead. "I need to go, dear. Your brother and sister are probably looking for me now. I know you can handle the rest." She said before walking up to the door. "Ma.." Taka stopped the Queen who was about to go out of the room. "Thanks." He said with a smile. The Queen smiled back before completely closing the door. Taka laid on his bed and closed his eyes, finally seeing clear as to what has been bothering him for days now. -to be continued-
