I woke up to the sound of my alarm ringing. I rubbed my eyes and sat up, feeling groggy from the lack of sleep. I quickly checked the time and realized I was running late for school. I rushed out of bed and ran to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face.
As I made my way to the kitchen, I noticed that my twin sister Tiffany was nowhere to be found. I asked my mom about Tiffany's whereabouts and she told me that she had left for school in a rush. I was confused. Why didn't Tiffany wake me up? We always made sure to wake each other up for school.
I quickly grabbed an apple and rushed out of the house, not wanting to be any later for school. I jogged and took shortcuts, but still arrived a few minutes late. As I walked into the classroom, I saw that Tiffany was already there and sitting in her seat.
"Why didn't you wake me up?" I asked Tiffany as I approached her.
She shrugged and said, "I was in a hurry and didn't realize the time."
I felt a pang of frustration, but didn't have time to dwell on it. I quickly took my seat and tried to focus on the lesson, but my mind was elsewhere. I couldn't shake off the feeling of being let down by my twin sister.
As I walked down the hallways of my school, I couldn't help but feel a little self-conscious. Everywhere I turned, I felt like someone was watching me. And then, I saw him. Drake, the new guy on the football team, was leaning against the locker and staring at me with a smirk on his face.
I tried to walk past him, but he stepped in front of me and blocked my way. "Hey, Brittany, right?" he said with a charming smile.
I nodded, feeling a little uneasy. "Yes, that's me. Can I help you with something?"
"I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Drake, the new guy on the football team," he said, extending his hand for me to shake.
I hesitated for a moment, but eventually took his hand and shook it. "Nice to meet you, Drake."
"The pleasure is all mine," he replied, still holding onto my hand. "Listen, I was wondering if you'd like to grab a coffee with me sometime?"
I felt my heart racing as I tried to come up with an excuse. "I'm flattered, but I'm actually in a relationship right now," I said, trying to pull my hand away from his.
Drake finally let go of my hand and shrugged. "No problem. I'll take a rain check then."
As I walked away, I couldn't help but feel like I was being watched. I turned around and saw Tiffany glaring at me with a mixture of jealousy and anger in her eyes. I sighed, knowing that this was going to cause a lot of trouble.
I finally made it to my classroom and took my seat. I couldn't shake off the feeling of being followed and watched. I turned to Diego, my boyfriend, and whispered, "Did you see that? The new guy on the football team just asked me out."
Diego's eyes narrowed and he clenched his jaw. "What did you say?" he asked through gritted teeth.
"I told him that I was in a relationship," I said, trying to calm Diego down.
Diego took a deep breath and relaxed his posture. "Good. I don't want anyone else getting too close to you."
I smiled and leaned in to give him a kiss on the cheek. "You don't have to worry, Diego. I love you and only you."
As I walked towards the lunch table, I could feel the weight of my sister Tiffany's glare on me. I knew she was still upset about the previous night's events, but I couldn't help the way I felt about Diego.
I sat down beside Amy and Lucas, trying to ignore the tension at the table. But it wasn't long before Tiffany started with her sarcastic comments.
"Well, well, well. Look who finally decided to grace us with her presence," Tiffany said, giving me a smirk. "I heard you were busy getting cozy with two guys last night."
I felt my cheeks flush with anger. How could she say something like that in front of everyone? I was about to retort when Amy spoke up.
"Tiffany, that's enough. You have no right to talk to your sister like that," Amy said, her voice firm.
Tiffany just rolled her eyes and went back to her food. But the damage had already been done. I felt my appetite disappear, and I pushed my tray away.
Diego, who had been sitting quietly until then, suddenly stood up. "I've had enough of this. Brittany, let's go," he said, offering me his hand.
I took it gratefully and let him lead me away from the table. I could feel the eyes of everyone on us as we left the cafeteria, but I didn't care. All I cared about was being away from the drama and being with Diego.
As I walked into the crowded school cafeteria, I felt a wave of whispers and murmurs wash over me. It was clear that the rumors of my relationship with Diego had spread, and everyone was eager to get a glimpse of us together. I caught sight of my sister Tiffany sitting at a table with some of her friends, and my heart sank as I saw the look of disapproval on her face.
I walked over to our usual table, where Diego, Lucas, and Amy were already seated. Lucas and Amy were deep in conversation, but Diego was staring off into space, looking troubled. As I sat down beside him, he turned to me with a tight-lipped smile, but I could tell that something was bothering him.
Just then, Tiffany stood up from her table and strode over to us, a smirk playing on her lips. "Well, well, well, look who's here," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "I hear congratulations are in order, Brittany. You're quite the player, aren't you? Two-timing both Diego and the new guy, Drake."
"What's the matter with you?" Amy asked, clearly annoyed by Tiffany's behavior. "You're acting like a real b***h towards your sister. Just stop it, for once."
Lucas turned to Tiffany, shaking his head. "You know, your behavior is making you unattractive to guys," he said. "You should try to act more like a sister towards Brittany, instead of constantly trying to tear her down."
I felt a rush of anger and embarrassment flood my cheeks as everyone in the cafeteria turned to look at us. Amy shot Tiffany a disgusted look and stood up, putting herself between us. "Tiffany, that's enough. You don't know what you're talking about."
"Oh, I think I know plenty," Tiffany said, a wicked gleam in her eye. "It's all over school that Brittany here is playing both Diego and Drake, trying to have her cake and eat it too."
Diego stood up abruptly, his chair scraping against the floor. He looked down at me with a mixture of anger and hurt in his eyes. "Is that true, Brittany? Are you seeing Drake?"
I felt a lump form in my throat as I looked up at him. "No, Diego, it's not true. I love you, and I wouldn't do anything to hurt you."
Diego looked at me for a long moment, then nodded slowly. "Okay, I believe you," he said, his voice softening. "But we need to talk. Now."
With that, he took my hand and led me out of the cafeteria, leaving Tiffany and Amy behind. My heart was pounding in my chest as we walked, and I couldn't help but wonder what was going to happen next. I knew that the truth about my relationship with Diego was about to come under intense scrutiny, and I wasn't sure if I was ready for it. But as long as I had Diego by my side, I knew I could face anything.
