Chapter18

Jacob is worried enough about Nia’s health that he is seriously considering leaving the forest and either stealing a car, or hitch hiking to their destination.

If it were him and he was as sick as his friend is right now he would have broken down and begged a pack to let him in and treat him in a pack clinic long ago. What he doesn’t know is that this isn’t the first time she has been this sick before.

When she was little, before, she was old enough to gain Snow her beast, she would get severely sick all the time, and she would still be required to perform all of her duties .

She would have to hunt for meat for herself . Forage for fruits and veggies for her sister and her Mom. Shoot, alpha would dole out extra punishment for when she gets sick.

He would get some sick enjoyment in watching his friends take their enjoyment from her weak little body.

He only had two rules for his friends. One; don’t kill them and two; they could only have them from behind.

He would always whisper to her “ I know you got sick to get my attention, but you didn’t have to do all of that for me! I know you enjoy the extra time with me, and I gladly give it you my love. And don’t worry about getting pregnant for my friends. They know the rules, the only one allowed to breed you is me. See how special you and your twin are to me! Your Alpha’s favorites! So pretty, so special!”

“Nia! Nia! Oh God, I swear we need help; this can’t keep happening!

Somnia opened her eyes to find herself and Amber being carted along by a giant King Cobra. Much to Amber’s delight, every time Finius would slither over a rock, she would give a huge belly Laugh. Good thing too, because her delight was the only thing keeping him from having a full-blown panic attack at this point.

His friend needs way more help than he knows how to give. He’s doing his best but she’s only getting worse. “ Put me down Finny.” “Respectfully, no!”

“Yes, Finny. I can walk now.”

“ you didn’t see how bad you were!”

“ I used to get this sick all the time before Snow showed up. And now there is no one to beat me up! It’s okay Finius, I’ll live.”

“ you sure will! Cause I’m here now! Jacob is too panicked for me to let him out right now.’

He stopped for a moment to turn around and look at me. “ I don’t think you understand the severity of our situation, but you aren’t just sick. Your body is not healing anymore!

“ I know that!”

“ and yet you’re still pushing yourself! Do you realize that you are all we have! We have no mother! No father ! Just you, Amber and, those babes in your belly, that’s it. Your all we have! So for once you are going to listen to good advice.

We are only three to five miles away from our destination. Yes I’ve been looking at the little compass Granny gave you while you were out, you should have let me look sooner. It’s got a whole map function on it. It’s taking us to North Kingdom. If that’s were your father is ,then there is no safer place for us and the twins .

So you’re going to lay down, and let me carry your big ol juicy butt as Jacob loves to call it . And let take us you there safely … Alpha! Does that sound like a good plan to you?”

Somnia couldn’t help but feel humbled by her friends willingness to try and share what she sees as her burden. But her stubborn side wouldn’t let her completely submit. “ okay, but I’m not laying down while you carry me . Sit me upright and… and you’ve got yourself a deal.” She reached up and touched Fin’ s forehead as though she was touching him to seal the deal , in reality she gave him a special mark. A family mark. He’s earned it, she doesn’t really count that as using her blessings. She felt compelled to do it after both Snow, and Iris whispered “ do it!” so he can’t fuss about it.

Finius took his tail and gently tilted her into a sitting position.

She let out a slow breath as she slowly scooted forward to sandwich Amber closer to her for ‘safety’ not saying a word about the mildly painful contractions in her belly. Even if she knew what that signified, after panicking poor Jacob she would have kept it to herself. “ okay Finny the brave, let’s go!” he started slithering with a hiss like laugh finally savoring a small win over his only friend.

Chapter 19

For the second time in two weeks Ivan felt a small tingle go down his spine, but this one felt closer than the last time. He hoped that meant something good was about to happen. He felt Magnus smile so he knew it must be a good thing. Magnus sounded so relaxed as he said “I think we should patrol the southern border today. Maybe have Bartek join.”

“ if that’s what you’d like.” One of the things he’s learned about his beast is that he never says anything randomly. It’s annoying how cryptic he can be , but he only speaks when he thinks it’s important. And for some odd reason those two tingles he felt lately made his beast get a warm fuzzy feeling inside, thus making him feel better as well.

“ human let’s grab a snack before patrol. It’s happening today, and we need our strength .

He sent out a mind link to his beta to join him for lunch so they could talk. Forty five minutes later they were both sitting in his personal chambers with a big lunch of steak and potatoes. “ I must admit that this is nice, but I’m not used to this. I’m supposed to be the one force feeding you. What’s up?

“ Magnus says something significant will happen at the southern border today and we need to be there when it happens.

“ a good thing or bad?”

“ he won’t say. But I felt something earlier today, and it gave Magnus a warm feeling, so there is that.”

“ huh. Okay, southern border let me gather a small patrol since we just went over that way the other day. I’ll send out the first round right now, and we can join them after lunch. Will that be okay Alpha?

“ that is how it must play out.” He said in a much deeper voice signifying that it was Magnus speaking, not Ivan. Bartek felt a bit shocked as he bent his head in submission to his Alpha’s beast ,and immediately gave the proper orders.

“ eat quickly beta it’s happening faster than it should! Be ready!”

The pair looked at each other in confused shock before tearing into their food. As they were about to take the last bite of their meal they felt a surge of power hard enough that it shattered their plates, followed by a mind link .

“ Alpha, beta rouges at the southern border…help!”
