Chapter 1
The beginning of a friendship is always scary, but that has always been my life. Scary, adventurous, and full of curiosity that is until I became cursed. Hello, my name is Opal Bryant, and unlike you I am no ordinary seventeen-year-old girl. You see when I was a little girl, my mother died leaving me with my father. However, before she died, she left me with an unforgivable gift. Only God knows why she left me with this curse and now I must feed among the living. I am what is known today as a Vampire Hybrid, meaning that I am part vampire and part another supernatural creature that my father and I have yet to figure out. We know that I am not a Werewolf Hybrid as I have never had to change into a wolf, the Werewolf Hybrid is the most common among all the hybrid lines. I don’t always have to drink blood, but it has taken me many years and much practice to be able to stomach food, this was the only way my father would allow me to go to school and seem like a normal child instead of the ugly monster that I am today. My father, Jason Bryant, a strong jawed opened eyed brunette with so much love in his heart that he shouldn’t have had this happen to him, we found out the hard way after I started to feed on a boy who had fallen off of the bars at school and opened up a gash in his arm. He is now my only friend and just like me he is not normal; he comes from a long line of strong witches that like to think that they know everything.
That is the story of how my life and curse had come to pass, now let’s get on with the real reason you are here… The series of murders taking place.
Everything started out normal, for me that is very odd as I am anything but normal. Ever since I can remember something bad or strange always happens to me the minute I wake up. As I look up, I notice there is light out which is another sign that something is very wrong. Ever since this curse came about, I have always woken up precisely at 3:26 A.M. on the dot every morning. I open my midnight blue and maroon colored curtains and find the sun to be set high in the middle of the sky as if to tell me that it is high noon, the third bad sign has finally hit and I start to panic, for every time I wake up past 3:26 something major has always happened the night before, the scariest thing is for once in my life I cannot remember anything from the day before at all. I immediately run to my bed and grab one of my shirts from my pile of laundry I have yet to put away from two days ago, it is my favorite shirt, I quickly button the beige and forest green flannel and go to my drawers to put on some fresh clean underwear then I grab my black ripped skinny jeans and a pair of no show socks and run out the door quietly sneaking down the stairs so my father does not notice that I slept in late. I go to put on my black high-top vans with red soles and logo when I look up to see Jason, my dad, staring down at me with a disgruntled look on his face.
“You slept in late, didn’t you?” he says worriedly with a scowl upon his handsome face.
I nod with fear in my eyes, whenever he gets like this his scar my mother gave him when I was three always pops out under his right eye. His eyes are always so beautiful until that scar appears it always makes his green eyes look darker and menacing the longer you look at them, so I quickly look down at his clothes. As usual he is still in his pajamas, a nice pair of sweats and a grungy old t-shirt. I finish putting on my shoes and worriedly I hear him sigh.
“You are going to Greg’s house, aren’t you?”
Greg, other wise known by his family and clan of witches as Greggory, is my only friend. He is my next-door neighbor and one of the most handsome men I have had the pleasure of meeting, his eyes are a lovely honey color and his hair is a curly black. His eyes make his dark skin town pop and bring out his jaw line. If he wasn’t my only friend, I would have tried to sleep with him by now.
“Yes, dad I am, I do not remember a thing about yesterday and am hoping Greg might.” I open the door and turn to close it when I see him nod disapprovingly, “Please be safe you know how Mrs. Thornbrut gets when you just rush over unannounced.” I don’t say anything back just close the door and use my speed as an advantage to quickly get across the street.
