Chapter 9

2042 Words
Once we arrived back at the makeshift camp, I immediately throw the pages at Margarette’s face. “Here, why don’t you take a look at how she died.” “There is no need, we all knew how she died and who killed her. I think your real question is why a child is listed as dead as well as your mother in that report.” She quickly shuffles the pages that were printed out and puts them aside gently. “The men who killed your mother are part of the biggest mob gang in the U.S. They killed your mother because she would not give you up, but they did not know you were in the car. Of course, as you know, you were never in that car that day. It was a plan laid out by all of us who knew what your mother had done, she just never told us immediately what you were. Morticia was on her way to tell us when she realized she was being followed, she was on the phone with your father about to tell him what you were and why you needed to be kept in the dark about all of this when the car went off the cliff.” “That does not give anyone the excuse of not telling me my mother has been dead this whole time. Did my father not tell you I tried to run off to go find her a few years back? Even then he never told me the truth, just that she was probably long gone and had a change of name.” “She is right mom; someone should have told her about what had really happened.” “You stay out of this Greggory Theodore! This does not concern you. Opal I am deeply sorry that no one told you, but your mother made us do a spell to keep us all from telling you until you were twenty-one. I tried to tell you when you came over crying, begging to see Greg to tell him about your mother. The moment any of us tried to tell you tongues became tied, literally tied, that is the spell your mother put on us all.” “That doesn’t mean no one couldn’t have written it out for me.” Maggie showed me her hands, I knew they were scarred, but she never told me how they had become that way. “I tried to, the object that I used to write with became glued to my had and caught on fire. The only way we would ever be able to tell you was to wait for you to become of age. Of course, that never gave any excuses for your father to have tried. He could have just written down the case number for her death and tell you to research it. He was the only one that knew the case number. I guess he did it just to protect you, the men that killed your mother were after you and if they heard from anyone that someone had researched the case they would be all over to find out who it was.” “What do you mean, ‘they were after me’.” “You were incredibly special from the very beginning. It is very rare for a witch and human to breed a vampire-witch hybrid and the Ringling Brother’s really wanted you from the moment you were registered that way, your mother turned you into the tri-bred that you are to hide your scent from them. They have some incredibly rare species in their arsenal that can smell out different types of Supernaturals and find them. Before your mother did the spell on you, she had a lifelike doll made to look like you, with blood and everything else to make it even more realistic. She transferred your scent to the doll and turned you into the dragon tri-bred that you are today. However, you are going to need to be extremely careful now. The Ringling Brother’s probably already know someone has researched your mother’s death; they will be coming after you.” “Well good luck to them! Greg and I made sure they wouldn’t be able to see who I was, even the clerk doesn’t remember us being there.” She slapped me across the face. “Did you not just hear a thing I said?! They have special Supernaturals in their control that can sniff out Supernaturals and what kind they are. They will have your scent the minute they step into that building, which should not be long now. Did you fly back here or walk?”             My mouth stood agape and I just froze, I looked over at Greg and he was just as frozen as I was. Maggie started shaking me, “Answer me Opal, how did you get back here!” “We, uh, we…” “We flew back mom. Do not be so harsh on her, she did not know any of this. We can do something to wash the scent away right?” “I can IF they aren’t already there. I will go back ALONE, just to be sure. In the meantime, start burning your clothes. Janet!” “Yes mom?” “Start conjuring some clothes for them to wear. We will all need to move out and soon. Greg and Opal, you need to remove your scent by washing in something that smells stronger than you, go find a skunk and spray yourselves with it.”             Maggie took her broom from Greg and started to perform a cleaning spell on it. A few moments later Maggie took off and was gone in a matter of seconds from Greg and Janet’s view. “Why the hell did you have to go looking for answers from the stupid records? My mother already knew everything, and we could have easily just gotten the information from her. No, we would have gotten the information from her even sooner.” “I’m sorry Greg, I was just so mad at her. I needed to get away from her, I was so angry all I could think about was hurting her and I couldn’t do that to you and Janet.” “Don’t speak my name you beast, my mother could get seriously hurt while she is gone. You are not in the clear until she comes back here, and we find a new hideaway.”             Those words stung worse than usual, because now I am a beast. If Maggie gets hurt, it will all be my fault. Tears started welling up in my eyes and Greg had a startled expression on his face. “Hey Ope, are you okay? Your tears are normal. Why aren’t you bleeding tears?”             Janet spun around and stopped mid Latin, “Woah, Opal what the hell is happening?” “I don’t know, the minute my wings sprung the bleeding tears were gone. Maybe I just need to grab a bite, I haven’t had any blood in a few months.” “Well don’t even think about getting any from me or Greg!” Greg spun around and started yelling words at her in Latin, he sounded terribly upset with Janet. I quickly turned around and started heading off into the woods to find something to eat. The odd part is, is that this has never happened before. I have gone a whole year without eating any fuzzy beings and my tears were still blood. So why was this happening now?             It took me a little while to focus enough to get my hearing to work and I heard something big, it did not sound like the average big animals in Historacia. I was starting to get worried. I crept up closer towards where the sound was coming from. Then a few feet away from where the sound originated from, I saw a big ass bear. I slowly got down into my hunting position and switched my eyes into my hunt mode. The world immediately turned into a red and black blob. I could see the heartbeat of the bear; it was slightly irregular. I quietly crept up to pouncing distance, but a twig snapped, and the bear turned and stared directly in my face.             I quickly lunged towards the bear, but it turned quicker than any animal this big should have been able to. Something was not right about this bear, I needed to kill it fast. I boosted my vamp speed as much as I could and waited for the bear to spot me again. The bear turned and was immediately able to spot me, almost like it had never lost sight of me. I could see just how big it was and it was massive. The biggest bear in these parts is the Grizzly, but this thing was massive compared to the other bears here. Its eyes were tinted red and it had a deep gash on the right side of its face. I should not have been studying what it looked like, I suddenly was knocked back into a tree and I heard my shoulder pop out of place. On the way down to the ground I popped it back in, the moment my fit hit the ground I was running faster than I ever had before and was on top of the bear in no time. The bear growled and got up on its back legs and tried squishing me between it and a tree, but I was much faster. I dug my claws into its sides as I slid down to its underbelly. It tried swiping at me with its right claw, but I broke the bear’s paw in one quick swipe and was attached back to its side before a second had even passed. It howled in pain and fell back into its normal stance but was only able to hold himself up with his left claw. As quickly as I had attacked and reattached my self to it, I back up on his back with my arms around its neck, in one smooth motion I twisted and heard the bear’s neck break. The bear fell swiftly to the ground and was dead.             As I was going in for a bit of its blood, a familiar scent caught my nose and I flipped around. My claws were still out, and my eyes were still red, “That was awesome Opal! Greg has told me about when he watched you take out a deer, but that was incredible. I never believed him when he told me about the deer, but I do now.” “Janet! What are you doing here?! You could have been hurt or killed.” “I just came out to apologize to you for how I have treated you all these years, I’m sorry. If I would have known that a bear was out here, I would have just waited for you to come back to camp.” “Well thank you for trying to apologize, but you should really get back to camp. Unless, you want to see me rip into the bear’s jugular.” I turned back to the bear and popped my fangs out, I started moving towards the bear’s throat and heard Janet scream. Her footsteps were loud in my eardrums, if I had not been eating fuzzy animals since I was eight, she would be getting chased by me.             The feeling of the blood as soon as it hit my mouth was almost a feeling of ecstasy, it was warm, and the metallic taste was too good to pass up. I only needed a little bit, but like always the feeling got to me and I drained every drop of blood from the bear. I wiped the corners of my mouth to remove any blood remnants and started walking back to camp.
