Derrick I lead Alisa further upstream, away from the rapids and the dark forest. That place never sat right with me. It smells like danger and suffering. It makes me deeply uncomfortable, and I avoid it at all costs. My wolf gave control back to me when we reached Alisa. Her touch was enough to pull me from my waking stupor. When she lay her soft little hand on my cheek, looked up at me with her eyes filled with wonder, my animal’s fury evaporated. He quietly retreated, trusting that I would take care of our mate and the men who harmed her. No one has ever been able to calm my beast like that.
