"Now you know who you really are! But you'll never get to live the life you were meant to live!
"I order you by the sea king to let me go so he may spare your life" I hiss a warning to her as she has me caged like an animal down on the bottom of the sea.
How was Kavan or anyone going to know where I was??
"Chill out little woman" she laughs. "you are in no place to give orders, are you?" she warns me.
She swims around my cage. "My how the tables have turned. Back when you had no idea, we merfolk were out here. A whole new world emerges for you right darling girl?" she laughs.
"How did you know it was me?" I wonder.
"Every merman and merwoman has the marking of the sea on them. You have one. On the back of your right arm look there" she demands.
• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •
I turn my arm and look at it. I had a little star marking. I always thought it was an odd shaped mole or something. I frown. It begins to glow on me. Then it stops. She smirks.
"The necklace to. You had it when I left you on the beach to die" she tells me.
"You thought I would die on the beaches?" I stammer.
"I dropped you off as a merbaby on the beaches. To die. Yes. Then by some magic you were turned human. And then your mother you know took you in when she found you there" she tells me.
"I am to marry Kavan?" I stammer as I try to gather all my thoughts.
"Why yes the bravest merman of the sea" she jokes. "You two have to be wed since you were born. You were promised to each other. He knew all along who you were. He nearly found you before me. If he did not already know it was you. He did not want to marry someone he does not know sadly. He has a mermaid back home. And he was hoping if he brought you home then this sham of a promised marriage would be lifted off his shoulders and he would be freed" she tells me with a laugh.
• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •
My heart cracks inside hearing what she told me. I was a chore? He knew about me? All along? He lied to me? He had known? And he lied? Kavan was in love with a mermaid back home and he did not want me.
I force bitter tears back. All the hope of the forced marriage leaves me. Maybe he freed me, then I would free him and return home. Away from all this. I could be human once, more right? And go back to my life. The life I knew.
"You are never going back to your old life. Once I get the sea king here, I will kill him you and Kavan to. You all shall pay by my hands. And I will be ruler of the sea. As I always should be" she chuckles before heading out of the room we were in.
I hang my head. Kavan never loved me. This I knew. Though I grew to have strong feelings for him. They were a joke. He never cared. He lied to me. How could he lie like he had? He could have told me he knew I was the princess. And saved me so much heartache. He knew I was looking for my real family and he kept it from me?
Why?!
My heart aches inside.
I was not sure how long I had been in lock down. I hear a noise near the door.
• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •
"Elissa" someone whispers to me.
"Elissa!!" they whisper.
"Leave me to die" I mutter. I knew he was here to save me. I had no love I had no family. A tear slides down my cheek. "I accept my fate."
"No princess!" demands a voice.
It was not Kavan.
I glance up. I see a new merman emerges. He shoots a bolt from his rod to the cage. Then the cage breaks open. I gasp as I fall back. He reaches his hand out to me. He flashes a smile my way.
• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •
"Come on princess" he orders to me. "before the witch returns"
I reach up taking his hand in mine. The guy was adorable. He had long curly blond hair. He was well built and powerful to. I wondered what his name was. I could tell by what he wore he worked for the king. He had a necklace on as well. The same I had on around my neck.
"NO!" screeches the sea witch.
She knew I was being freed!
"Swim as fast as you can!" orders my mystery rescuer.
Someone shoots at the witch.
"Swim Elissa! Do as Mortal says!" I hear someone order.
I glance back to see Kavan had returned for me. He was there in merman form. He was there to help save me. The sea witch aims at Kavan. Ready to kill him.
"Kavan!" I scream with panic.
• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •
I am dragged away before I can see if he was shot or not by the witch. Mortal drags me out of the sea witch cave. I am surrounded by more merman. They all were as handsome as could be.
Kavan was not lying when he said he was a dime a dozen. But he was the one who managed to capture my heart. He did not want my heart though he could be promised to it.
"He needs our help" I beg the others. "Please Mortal can you help Kavan?" I beg. "she tried to kill him once she will kill him" I beg with worry.
Suddenly the sea witch cave crumbles with sparks. Mortal makes me get out of the way as he protectively covers his arms with my body to keep me from harms way. I scream for Kavan. Worry fills me. Was he dead? Did he die to save my life? Fighting the sea witch??
"Kavan!" I call out with worry. "No no no! Kavan!" I cry out as I look at the crumbled building under the sea. Tears come to me.
"Princess I am sorry" Mortal tells me softly. "we were all ordered to bring you home safely at all costs" he tells me.
Tears come to me. I nod.
"Your father awaits to meet you" Mortal tells me. "You come with us princess"
I do as I am told. I want to ask the king if he could allow me to go back to the only life I have ever known. My home on earth. I was never going to be used to swimming under the sea. I did not know how to be a graceful princess. And my beloved was dead. He was gone. He died to save my life. Tears come to me.
I brush them back. Not like he wanted me. Or wanted to love me. He was finally free of me.
Like he wanted to be!
I get to this large beautiful castle. The castle was filled with shells and pinks of coral. It was breathtaking to see this place. They lead me swiftly to the castle.
They show me to my room that I used to stay in. And it was the same place I had been dreaming about. I sit at the vanity and think of Kavan. He was gone. He never got to know I grew to love the man. Tears come to me.
• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •
"Daughter!" I hear someone say in a deep voice from behind me.
I gasp. I turn to face my father for the first time ever. I had family! I really had a family!!
I turn around. Our eyes meet. He had my eyes. Or I had his. He had long flowing sliver hair. He looked like he was a strong powerful man. He swims to my side. He looked like he wanted to reach out and touch me. His blue eyes twinkled kindly at me.
"It is so good to see you daughter" he speaks softly. "I never thought I would see you ever again" he admits to me.
I smile as tears of joy come to me.
He reaches out to me as though he wanted to touch me on the arm. Then pulls back shyly.
I rush to him and hold him tight.
"I always wanted a father. I have one" I cry joyfully.
He hugs me tightly. We cry as we hold on to each other. Father later shows me the kingdom. I get to meet many people. Mortal shows back up beside my father.
• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •
"Mortal" I say his name. He nods then smiles. "any word? About Kavan?" I ask softly with hope.
He shakes his head sadly. "Sorry no princess" he tells me.
I nod then wince.
"Mortal is next in line to wed the princess if something happens to Kavan" explains someone in the crowd beside us.
I blink as Mortal beams a happy smile at me. He holds my hand then kisses the top of my hand. "I would be thrilled to marry you princess. And I do not have a single lady in my life. Such as Kavan had" he promises me.
"Oh, thank you. I think. Do I have to marry right away? I just got home" I chuckle as I feel my cheeks blush now.
"No dear no" laughs father.
Later on, I am trying to get some rest in my room. Someone knocks on the door.
"Come in" I tell them.
A beautiful mermaid comes in. "My name is Serine" she tells me. "Kavan was my beloved" she lets me know. "Mortal told me he lost his life. Is that true?" she wonders. "Did Kavan die?"
• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •
Our eyes meet. Her heart looks like it is shattering just by the look on her face.
"I know. By your face" she says softly. Tears come to her.
"I am so sorry" I tell her.
She was a beauty. Her long hair was a beautiful deep red. She was stunning with her green eyes.
"He was never promised to me. I should have stayed away. He made promises he could never keep" she sadly says.
"He was an amazing person. I am very sorry for your loss" I tell her softly.
She nods as tears shine in her eyes. "Thank you" she says. "it was a pleasure to meet you princess Elissa"
She swims away before I can say another word.
I sigh. Kavan was never to be mine. But my heart was always going to ache for his kiss. It was time to let him go.
Was he really gone? Forever? Maybe I could talk my father into finding his body to prove he was gone. And give us answers. We all needed them.
