Chapter Sixteen

"He was right! But it hurt to know  he was right! It was a bright beautiful day outside today. But my heart was not into it. Every time I turned around there were girls flocking around Kavan here at the diner. Kavan had no clue why all these women were drawn to him. He was handsome. Smart. The whole package. Not to mention he was working for a royal family. I knew what I was feeling deep down in me. Love. I let myself fall in love with a merman who I could never be with. I was always falling in love with men who did not want me or could not be with me. What was wrong with me? Why could I not pick someone who was normal? Someone within my rang? I rush to the back of the diner. I lean on the wall as I fight with tears and emotions. I brush them back. I make sure I did not have any tears showing in me before heading back out to the dining room area. I run right into Kavan. He was bringing back more dishes to be washed. He smiles over at me. I force myself to smile back before heading back to work. This was so hard. Maybe I could get another job. One that was not working beside Kavan? "There is a customer that needs your attention over on table three Elissa" my boss orders me. "I am on it" I say. I rush on over to table three. I glance over to see Gary sitting in the booth. I gasp. What in the hell was Gary doing at a place we worked at? Would he know Kavan if he looked at him? Would he get pissed? Would everything get blown out of the water. "What can I get for you?" I say to Gary. "No hello? How are you Gary?" snaps Gary. "Elissa got a new job after all. Did you tell your new boss you steal at work?" he angrily asks me. "Not now Gary. Not here" I hiss a warning at him. "Order something or get out" I demand to him. "I mean if I were you new boss, I would want to know that you steal. And you stole something huge though we could not prove it. And huh that old sea witch never did show up. The one who pretended to be you" he rambles on. "sounds crazy. You know where crazy people really belong don't you Elissa?" he asks me. "Can it Gary" I demand sternly. "Is there a problem?" Kavan steps in. Gary is staring intently at Kavan. My heart races. "We are fine. Right Gary?" I say. "Right" Gary nods as he still looks at Kavan. "Kavan can you get me another pad of paper. I am running low to take orders please" I stammer. I had to get Kavan away from Gary. "Kavan where have I heard that name before?" Gary asks me. "What is going on here?" my boss asks. "This is my old boss. He would not let me get a job before. He harasses me." I admit to my boss. "You need to leave" my boss tells Gary. I nearly sigh with relief. "But I have not ordered my lunch yet" Gary complains. "GET OUT!" orders my boss loudly. Gary scrambles then rushes out of there. Running out of the diner. "Thank you. Thank you so much" I say gratefully to my new boss. "Did you really steal something from your pervious employer?" he wonders. I shake my head no. "It was proven someone framed me. I did not do it. I don't steal" I promise him. My boss nods. "Alright. Get back to work." Is all he answers before leaving the room. I sigh. "What was that about Elissa?" Kavan worries over me. "Gary is on my case again. About you" I warn him. "I hope he does not put two and two together. See that you are the merman" I whisper to Kavan. "I would not put it past him to kidnap you until you turn back into a merman again" "I can handle Gary" he tells me. "Oh yeah like you handled getting caught by him the last time" I warn him. "Stay away from Gary. He is dangerous" I say. "Like you tell me to stay away from the sea witch. Listen to me. Please Kavan. Stay away from Gary" I beg of him. "I will. Do not worry Elissa. I promise I will" he says. I feel Kavan grab my arm before I go back to work. "Is something else wrong Elissa?" he asks me softly. He always read me so well. "No" I lie. "I am fine thanks" I go back to work. I got off work before Kavan did that day. So, I decided to go back to the beach. I know Kavan did not really like for me to go to the beach without him around. But I needed sometime to think. Sometime to myself. To clear my head. And to clear my heart. When Kavan left it was going to be hard for me to get over him. He was not into me anyway. He would not have any trouble forgetting about me when he found his true princess. The one he was supposed to marry. I was back here at the beach. At the spot where my mother had found me as a baby. I always went here. Looking for answers. But never finding any. I wished I had love. Family. Kavan. This mystery princess was so lucky. I almost wished I was her just to be able to be with Kavan. But I was no princess material. It was a good thing I was not the princess. I could not swim either. I would make a fool of myself under the sea. The princess might not have a mother any longer. But she had family. She had a father. A sea king. She had people who loved her. And waited for her to come home. Out there in the real world no one was waiting for me to come home. No one was longing for me. Tears come to me again. I wondered what my real mother and father were like? Did I have my mother's eyes or fathers? Did I have my father's temper? My mother's grace? Where did my family traits all come from? I would never ever know. As I wallow in my own misery water bubbles to the surface causing me to leap back from the waters. Something was coming out of the water. Something or someone! I gasp. I hear laughing. An evil being was in my presence. I could tell without knowing who it was. I could feel the evil in my bones. I glance up in horror. The sea witch. She looked almost human. An evil glare shimmered in her dark purple green eyes. She makes her way to my side. I dodge her ready to bolt and run away. I should have listened to Kavan. "I know who you are" I manage to whisper. "I know who you are to" she cackles. "Leave me alone. I am not the princess" I warn her sternly. "Leave me alone" I order her. I go to try to leave. I feel a long slimy tentacle whip out of her side and grab me my the waist. I struggle to get free of her grasp. She was pinning me down powerfully. Kavan was still at work. He had no idea where I was even at! "Let me go! I am not the princess!" I order to the witch. "That is what they all tell you! But you know who you are deep down! You forgot who you are" she whispers to me near my ear. "I have not forgotten who you are" "Let me go!" I beg of her as tears come to me. I try not to show her fear. "You are coming with me. It is time you learn who you truly are princess" she laughs. She is heading to the waters. Panic settles in me. This was it! I was going to die at the hand of a crazy sea witch! I was going to drowned in the sea! My worst fear come true! "I can't swim!" I yelp. "Wait I can't swim!" I yell louder. She does not listen to me. She drags me under the cold-water waves. I take a deep breath before we crash into the waters. My lungs feel like they are about to burst. It is painful being under the waters of the sea. I could not get free. She still had me in her grasp. Then before I knew it, she lets me go. I begin to sink lower to the bottom of the ocean. I begin to pray that Kavan or even the sea king would find me and save me right now from my death of doom. I struggle to get back to the surface. I could not get there. This was it. I was going to die. Death had come for me. "Come on Elissa! Swim fishy. Swim" laughs the witch. "do as Astral orders you to do" she demands. This sea witch was crazy! Pain shoots in my legs. They buck. Then my body twists and turns in the sea as a bright light shines under the grounds of the waters below. I find myself to be transforming. I had a large mermaid tail! What hat the witch done to me? Was she turning me into a mermaid?? I can now breath under the waters below. I go to swim away from the evil witch. She grabs me. I have a flash back. The sea witch leaning over a baby crib. Grabbing me. "They will never miss you princess. They will do as I say. And I will be the true queen of the sea as I always have been supposed to be" she is telling me. I gasp. Kavan did not know. I was Elissa. The sea witch was right. She knew all along because she put the spell on me. She broke the spell. So, memories flood back to me. I was the true queen of the sea. The next to watch over the sea. She wanted me dead so she could have the title for herself!! "I know" I gasp. "Now you know who you really are. But you will never get to live the life you were meant to live. You should have stayed on the surface. Where you were safe princess" she laughs. "Now you must die"  • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •
