Chapter Fourteen

1513 Words
I explained to my mother what was going on. And who Kavan was. She met him and agreed to allowed Kavan to stay with us. For the time being. No siblings of mine lived here any more right now so there was a spare room Kavan could stay in. For the time being. Until he returned to the sea where his home was. How was it the sea witch was getting me messed up with the real princess Elissa? Maybe because Kavan let me keep the necklace. That was the only thing that made sense to me. The necklace was the connection. Mother went to bed for the night. I went to get Kavan extra blankets. I wanted to check on him to make sure he actually got some sleep. We would both be going to work in the morning. Unless the boss called my former employers and then Gary would get me fired from this job as well. I hoped they would see I was a hard worker. And allow me to keep working. I really needed a job. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • I head upstairs. Butterflies jumble inside my stomach. I raise my wrist and knock on the door. "Kavan? It is Elissa" I say. "Can I come in?" I ask. "Come inside" he answers me. I open the door. There he was on the ground doing push up's. Shirtless. My mouth about drops open. I close it quickly. I forgot how good looking the man was. Were all mermen perfection like him? I walk around him and set the set of blankets on the bed for him. Then sit down on the bed while I waited for him to finish working out. Then he gets up. "I am not sure I will get much sleep. I am worried she will return here" he warns me. "you once saved me. Helped me. And I will be sure to return the favor" he tells me. I nod. "Thank you Kavan for keeping me safe. So, the sea king himself allowed you to become human? And stay on land?" I ask. He nods. "Only the sea king has the power to grant that to his people. The sea witch wants to get that power. And be able to do as she wishes. She knows if she finds the princess who is on land here some place then she will have something to hold over the king. And get that power she craves. I have to find the princess before she does so that is why else I am on land as well. To look for my princess" he adds. I sigh. "And here I am, getting in the way. Slowing things down. I am sorry I got the witch after me" I mutter. "Maybe I should give this necklace back to you. It belongs to your people" I say as I go to take the necklace off my neck. He places a hand on my hand stopping me. "It belongs with you" he says sternly. He shakes his head. "It was yours" "But I don't want it" I declare. Our eyes meet. His look surprised by my outburst. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • "Why?" he asks softly. I did not know where to begin. "Is your king's name Kastrov?" I ask him. He looks surprised. He nods. "Yes, his name is Kastrov why?" I hand him the necklace once I get it off me. "I have been having dreams that do not belong to me. About the princess. I believe the reason is because of the necklace. This is her necklace not mine. I have her dreams. And the witch is confused. I really think it is best if you keep this" I say sternly as I put the necklace in the palm of his hand. I close his hand. "I would love to keep it. But it does not belong to me" I remind him. "Maybe one day you will give this back to your princess" He smiles at me. "How did you know the kings name? Can you tell me about the dream?" he asks me. He sits beside me. "Oh, sure I would be happy to tell you. I dreamt that I was the princess. And the king and queen were looking over me. I saw the queen place the necklace on the baby. Me. Or the princess. Whatever, you know what I am trying to say here. I saw them all wearing the same necklace" I tell him. "I know it does not belong to me" "Your mother got that right?" he asks me again. "At the beach?" I smile. "I was left upon a beach. My mother found me. She and my father were out walking. And she happened to find the necklace beside me. She assumed it was mine to. She could not leave me there crying. Alone. She took me and the necklace back home. Later on, she adopted me. And on my sixteenth birthday she gave me the necklace. She used to tell me that it was from my birth mother. Even though it really was not. That used to bring me joy. To feel a connection to someone. I always wanted to know who my real parents were and why they gave me up" I sigh. "I guess I will never know" "I am very sorry" he tells me. I nod. "Me to. It is not your fault. This princess sure is lucky. Everyone wants her. They are looking for her. And will not give up. I wish my family was out there looking for me. But you know my mother here loves me so much. I am lucky to have her. I guess I should give up on childhood dreams huh?" I tell him. "Maybe your family is looking for you" he tells me. I shake my head. "No" I laugh. "I have another question" "What? Go right ahead" he says. "Did you put those gills behind me the day I fell into the waters?" I demand. He smiles. "I had to save you. You were going to die" he tells me. "You have powers?" I state. "That separates me from the humans. We all have powers. We merfolk also protect the waters and the earth. Things humans don't do and can't do" he explains. "Wow" I say amazed. "Like when you could read my mind?" I ask. He nods. "I allowed that. So, we could communicate without the others in the way. I trusted you at the time. And still do. That was why I allowed you to read my mind" That all made sense. "You are amazing!" I blurt out. I feel my cheeks blushing. Had I really just said that?? How lame did I sound? • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • "Ah thanks, but I really am not. If you came to the sea you would find millions like me. And you would not be that impressed. You would not be able to tell me out of the crowd" he swears to me. I glance at him. He smiles. "I doubt that I could ever forget a face like yours" I say. My hand brushes against his as his sets resting on my bed. I quickly retrieve my hand. A spark flickers between us. He was meant for someone else. He was not meant for me. He was to wed someone else. Someone far more amazing than me. And when he found her, he would be out of there. I would never see him again. "I better get to bed. We have to work in the morning" I remind him as I stand up. "I shall try to sleep" he tells me. "Good night Kavan" I tell him. "Sweet dreams Elissa" he says to me before I head out of the room. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • I head in my room. My neck felt bare without my necklace proudly hanging around it. I was sure going to miss it. But maybe now I was not going to have so many nightmares. Nightmares about the sea princess. I touch my neck with my hand. I sigh. I get ready for bed. Then brush my hair after I let it hang down over my shoulders. I turn off the lights and climb into bed. I wondered what the real Elissa was like. Did she looked beautiful? Was she going to love Kavan as he should be loved? Though as he said there were millions in the sea like him? Would she even care to know him?! Or would she marry because she was supposed to marry him. Did she know who she was out there? Maybe she did if she had powers. Right? She could be looking for her family. Trying to return. I roll over in my bed. Trying to calm my brain down. My thoughts would not be stop. Or let me be. I needed sleep. I was not going to have another restless night. Like last night. I sigh as I fluff my pillow up and then lay back down on it. Before long I finally fall back to sleep.  Heading into dreamland. "Isn't she lovely Kastrov?" someone soon is saying. "She is a doll" someone answers. "One day she will be queen. Queen of the sea!" "So much expectation for someone so small...." • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •
