Forsaken ( Chapter 1)
The waves crash on the shore, rolling and washing over my feet. The sand digs into my legs and settles in between my toes. The salty sea air sings a song of peace because this is the only place I can find it. On the beach hidden under the rock cliffs where the only sound is the ocean. No taunting names, no yelling, no whispers of THE abomination. Here, I can be myself. Here, is where I hide from everyone and file through my thoughts.
" I thought I might find you here sweet pea." I turn around smiling at my father walking up to me. He sits down beside me looking ahead. The only time he comes looking for me is when he has something important to tell me. So I brace myself. my father sighs and looks at me. " You are not going to like it." I smile softly and remain quiet. I don't really speak unless I have something important to say. Most think it's because I am mute or I'm ignorant. Furthest from the truth, just so happens that most of the time no one has anything interesting to say for me to reply back to. "I am leaving agian, the Alpha needs me to scout at the Northern border. There have been disappearances." My father says with exasperation. I look at him now, the wrinkles crinkling on the the outside of his eyes, a cerulean blue. The white in his midnight black hair looks as if he was painted with a fan brush. When I look back into my father's eyes I find them full of sorrow. "Say something Bronwyn." He says pleading. "what would you like me to say?" I ask looking back at the water. " Anything is better than silence sweet pea." He states while touching my shoulder. I sigh curling up and resting my chin on my knees. "Nothing I say will keep you from going. Nothing I say can keep me from worrying. Why say anything at all if my words have no power and my breath is wasted?" I say turning my head to look at him still laying on my knees. My dad smiles sadly and pulls me, tucking me under his arm like when I was a Child. " I would apologize but I know that words would only be wasted. I can promise that I will be back as soon as I can. Will that suffice?" I lean my head on his shoulder and watch as the suns start to set. " That'll suffice."
We sit in silence as the waves crash and watch as the suns disappears beneath the horizon. we've been sitting for hours in blissful silence and thoughts that are unspoken. When the sky is black and the moon shows her face we both get up and brush ourselves off. " Did you want to walk home with me or did you have plans tonight?" My father asks turning towards me. " I have stew on my stove at the hut but we can walk together until then. If you and Claris would like to join me for dinner you are welcome." I say. He nods his head and I start walking with him towards the village.
once we reach my cabin on the outskirts, the lights are on and my step mother is on the steps with her arms crossed and anger in her eyes. " Garic! where have you been? I was looking everywhere for you my love." she says while racing towards him. she turns her eyes to me smiling and giving a quick hello which I say nothing to. " I went to find Bronwyn to tell her the news of my departure, what are you doing here Claris?" My father says lifting an eyebrow. " Well, honey I came to find you." she smiles devilishly and brings my father into a kiss. I walk pass them into the cottage to check on my stew.
It's not that I don't like Claris but I just have nothing to say to her. Nothing to talk about. She was the highschool queen bee and then when she was eighteen she met her fated mate, my father. I don't fit in her circle, bubble, what do you call it? I'm the half breed daughter of the witch who they burnt. She seduced my father and left me behind after I was born. the product of manipulation, atleast that's the whispers around the village. My dad never talks about her and Alpha Eric banned talking about her. So asking questions will only cause me more pain. I'm almost twenty-one, so I'll be able to leave after my birthday in three months time. To find answers and myself.
"Bronwyn? Are we still invited to dinner sweet pea?" My dad says poking his head in through the front door. I nod my head and start getting bowls down from the shelf. I hear them shuffling around by the table while I scoop the roast in the bowls. when I turn around Claris is holding my dad's hand and whispering about something and he smiles. That is the only reason I don't dislike her, she makes my dad happy and that's all I will ever want for him. I set the bowls down in front of them and one by my chair and then grab the berry juice I made and fill their cups. I make myself a cup and sit. When I look up my dad is staring at me and so is Claris. " Sweet pea what's the matter?" My dad says with concern. I softly smile "Nothing dad, I hope you guys enjoy." and then I dig in. " Thank you Bronwyn for the meal it's quite delicious." Claris says with a big smile. I return her smile and hum my agreement. " Did I tell you guys what I heard from the Luna today? " Claris says with excitement. " apparently there are other tribes coming for the Alpha ceremony. Alpha Eric is turning over his title to his son Marcus due to him finding his second chance mate last year. isn't that great?!" " yes it is." dad says. I nod and continue eating. So Marcus found the mate he wanted, good for him. May he rot in hell.
After dinner I said goodnight to my dad and Claris. Dad said that before he leaves he will come and see me. I look out the window at the star lit sky and smile. Tonight would be a good night to run but I am so exhausted from practicing my magic I head upstairs to my loft that I've made my bedroom. snapping my fingers the candles all go out as I fall face first into my bed. "long day for a Maga." My wolf Catori says. " not long at all just tiring, do you ever feel lonely Catori? why am I asking you this? I should know that we aren't alone because we have each other. I'm sorry I can only bring you out at full moon." " why must you explain things when I know what you ask Bronwyn? Yes I am lonely just like you. He will come one day and he will love us as we are." I sigh turning on my back looking up at my ceiling detailing ever imperfection on the wood beams. " You heard what Claris said at dinner." I said looking out my window at the wanning moon. " I did and he doesn't realize what he gave up, he will when we find the one for us. The moon goddess always has a plan and so does Hecate." "Very ominous Catori, all I want is to see Larenthanil for everything it holds.I want to lay in the grass as my forefathers and sleep beneath the stars. I want to dance with the spirits and not hear the chaotic thoughts of those around me or hear the vile words of creatures who don't understand. I want to be myself. I want us to be free." As I start falling asleep I hear Catori whisper "We will."
