Alexander
Pov: Laura
"It is criminal to celebrate a day like this by yourself," interrupted Claire, my best friend and boss' sister. With her tank top, cargo pants and dirty blonde hair, she caught the attention of several men who passed our table.
I look up from my phone and make a smile. "I'm not the one getting married."
Her eyes crossed over my face. "No, but you are a puppeteer who made the impossible possible."
"It wasn't that bad."
"Now I know there is something wrong with you. Are you sad that Alex is getting married? ”Her voice is lower than usual.
Laughter welled up. "I cannot believe that."
"So what's going on?"
Her head drooped, and several spiral curls fell in front of her face. I run my hand through the dress to smooth out some non-existent wrinkles. The cheerful pastel fabric contrasts with my tanned skin and makes me look a lot happier than I feel. "I got a call saying I didn't make it to the next stage of the interview."
"Damn. I'm sorry. I know how you struggled with your interview presentation."
"After months of working on presentations for Vos Company's HR department, they refused to transfer me. Burning more than it should. I wasn't aiming for stardom in an entry-level position in HR, but I had a good idea with a promising future. An opportunity that could benefit the countless dyslexics in the corporate crisis. If only they would give me a chance, my plan could take the company to the next level.
"You can try again next time."
A smile shakes. "I don't think so."
"It's pretty shitty if you ask me."
laughing. "It's true. At least Alexander never knew. Can you imagine, I didn't even get the job and what would have happened if I told him? He would never let me down."
"He tends to get excited."
I smile broadly and point to a giant banner arch. frowns at the flashing "She Said Yes" neon sign. "Keep it low. He'll love it."
Adding artificial sweetness to my lashes. "I planned the party exactly as he asked. He should have been clear about what kind of event he wanted."
"I better be careful not to offend you."
"I have a complete iterinary for that day."
Claire fake trembles. "Where is the future Mrs.?"
"Alexander wanted to meet up with her before the announcement."
Her eyes were wide open. "Why on earth did you let him do that?"
"Um...they haven't met yet?"
"Exactly! That's why it's such a bad idea!" Claire runs her hand through her thick waves.
"Do you think he will make her change her mind?"
"I know my brother, so it's not that hard to make the woman run away or scare her off."
"She signed the contract. It's a done deal."
"If you say so..." she shrugged. "Let's see what happens." I turn to the stairs.
Claire wraps her arm around my arm. "No, you are not taking a night off."
"but-"
"Maybe you're right. Alexander isn't going to do anything stupid right now and risk losing everything. He knows when even he should withdraw."
"Now I know you're lying."
She chuckles. "Cheer up. Let's go inside and wait for Alexander. Think about how hard he can try without frowning and fail. Well, I'm not sneering at him. I don't think he has ever looked at someone without frowning since....." She stops.
"Since?"
She avoids looking me in the eye. "He always does. I'm sure his c**k is bruised from all the self-love."
I laughed and tapped her on the shoulder. "Shut up! He's my boss."
"That doesn't make it any less believable. I'm surprised this kind of abuse didn't cut off limbs."
I laughed again.
"Clarisa," Alexander's voice echoes. Hearing Alexander's voice, several stragglers rush into the banquet hall.
"He really knows how to tidy a room," Claire says. ”
"The excitement in Claire's eyes vanished the moment Alexander frowns as he walks towards us. The air turns cold and Alexander's icy glow that could cool a hot summer weather." Yes, his bulk obscures all of my view , and the spotlight behind him only accentuates the sharpness of his features, highlighting the darkness of the rims of his eyes and chin. .
Compared to Claire's blond-haired, blue-eyed look, Alexander reminds us of the deepest part of the ocean—a cold, dark, unsettlingly quiet place. Like a monster lurking within your reach, you're just one step away from making someone your prey. From his dark hair to the permanent scowl on his face, he exudes an emotion that would make anyone look the other way.
Well, everyone except me. We share a mutual respect for each other that has stood the test of time. The first few months of our working relationship was more than difficult, but my determination to succeed as his assistant paved the way for our relationship today.
Despite being polar opposites in almost every respect, we somehow agree. I'm a hispanic woman, he is half Russian. He frowned when I smiled. He gets up early every morning to work out, but I prefer to stay in bed. Hard work couldn't be more different, but we still make it work. At least I am.
I am between the two siblings "Alexander, what are you doing here? Is it time for an announcement? ”
Alexander shifts his gaze from Claire to me. Most people cringe at his gaze, but I stand up straight and face him head-on like my grandma taught me.
"She ran away."
I blink, "Who ran away? A dog?"
"No, the woman. Melissa. "
"Did Melissa quit?!"
Claire dares to look smug.
Alexander doesn't take his eyes off my face as he ruins all my carefully articulate plans. "Yes, Melissa."
"It can't be." I hate to believe he ruined my months of hard work. It was nearly impossible for him to find a woman willing to marryand have children so that he could become CEO and earn his fortune. "
