“Dad.” I said, closing the door behind me.
“Where the f**k have you been?” He growled at me.
“I just went out with some friends last night. I crashed at Ally’s house.” I said.
“Don’t f*****g lie to me.” He said.
“I’m not.” I said.
“I can smell wolves on you. What the f**k were you thinking? Do you want them to find us?” He yelled.
“No one is going to find us. I just went out to have a good time.” I said. So he marched over to me and punched me straight in the face causing me to fall back against the door.
“Dad. Stop. This is pathetic. I didn’t do anything wrong.” I said.
“You were with werewolves last night. Alpha wolves. Can’t you smell that? Can’t you tell what they are.” He said.
“No. I can’t. Because of those pills you shove down my throat every day, I can’t tell who is who anymore.” I yelled.
Dad got a murderous look in his eye at me talking back to him that he pulled the whip back and started hitting me with it.
“Dad. Stop.” I yelled.
He kicked my legs out from under me and when I fell to the ground he kept whipping me on the back until he decided I’d had enough. About 20 lashes later.
He didn’t say anything else before he turned back and went to his room and slammed the door.
I laid there on the floor for a while trying to catch my breath and trying to control the pain. But it was almost impossible.
I managed to get up and get to my bedroom where I took my shirt off and threw it in the bin since the back of it was all torn up.
I sat on the side of my bed with a wet cloth trying to clean whatever wound I could reach before I put on a baggy shirt and shorts and I climbed into bed. Being careful to lay on my side inside of my back.
I knew I wasn’t going to get any sleep but I couldn’t move or get out of my room after that beating from my father.
Thanks to the pills that he forces me to take, I’m not going to heal very quickly. So when my phone vibrated with a text message I moaned as I grabbed it.
Ally - don’t forget the football game tonight. I’ll be there at 4.
Oh s**t. Now I had to pretend like everything was alright when really I just wanted to stay in bed for the rest of the weekend.
I was uncomfortable all day but by the afternoon I had to get up and shower but as soon as the water hit my skin I winced and tried not to cry out in pain.
I didn’t want to give my father the satisfaction but I put a washer in my mouth just so I could get through the shower without biting my tongue or screaming out.
As soon as I got out of the shower I got dressed into a school jersey, jeans and sand shoes.
Ally arrived at 4 and I grabbed my bag and I walked through the house to see my father sitting on the couch with another open bottle of alcohol.
I looked at him for a moment before I just walked straight towards the front door.
Dad got off the couch yelling and swearing at me but I walked quickly down the footpath to the car as dad managed to make his way out onto the patio.
“Go Ally.” I demanded. So she put her foot down and we sped down the road, ignoring dad.
“Drunk again?” She asked.
“Of course he is. He always is.” I said.
“Yeah. I’ve noticed that.” She said.
Ally and I stopped at the diner to get something to eat, just the two of us. And then we headed towards the high school for the football game.
We walked into the bleachers and found some seats near the front.
The opposite side of the bleachers had the people from the other school that we were playing against this week.
As soon as our team ran out onto the field, Ally and I started cheering for Devin who blew us a kiss like he always did. It was basically tradition now.
Once we sat down and started talking to our friends I got a shock when Ally elbowed me in the ribs.
I looked at her and she was staring across to the other side of the field at the kids from the other school.
I followed her gaze until I was shocked when I saw the twins sitting there staring at me. With the same intensity as the night before.
“Oh fuck.” I said.
