MARTHA'S POV I rushed to Thomas's house, my heart racing with fear. When I arrived, I saw that Joe's car was already parked outside. My stomach dropped as I realized that he must have gotten there before me. I jumped out of my car and ran to the front door, which was wide open. I pushed it open and called out, "Thomas! Joe!" But there was no answer. I stepped inside, my eyes scanning the room. That's when I saw them - Thomas and Joe, fighting on the living room floor. I gasped, my hand flying to my mouth. I had never seen Joe like this before. He was like a wild animal, punching and kicking Thomas with all his might. Thomas was trying to defend himself, but Joe was too strong. He was gaining the upper hand, and Thomas was starting to lose consciousness. I knew I had to do something, but I was frozen in fear. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know how to stop Joe. I tried to move, to run to Thomas's aid, but my legs were rooted to the spot. I was paralyzed with fear. And then, I heard it - a loud bang, like a gunshot. I felt like I had been punched in the gut. I couldn't breathe. I looked around, trying to see where the shot had come from. That's when I saw Joe, standing over Thomas's body, a gun in his hand. I screamed, my voice echoing off the walls. Joe turned to me, his eyes wild and crazed. "You should have stayed out of this, Martha," he spat, his voice venomous. I tried to run, but my legs were frozen in fear. I was trapped, unable to move or escape. Joe started to walk towards me, the gun still clutched in his hand. I could see the anger and hatred in his eyes. I closed my eyes, waiting for the worst. But as I stood there, I heard a noise behind Joe. It was Thomas, struggling to get to his feet. Joe turned to face him, the gun still pointed at me. Thomas's eyes met mine, and I could see the desperation in them. He knew he had to save me. With a surge of adrenaline, Thomas launched himself at Joe, tackling him to the ground. The gun went flying out of Joe's hand, and I was finally able to move. I ran to Thomas's side, helping him to pin Joe to the ground. We were both shaking with fear, but we knew we had to keep Joe restrained until the police arrived. As we waited, I couldn't help but think about how our lives had changed. We had gone from being a happy family to being embroiled in a violent and deadly struggle. I looked at Thomas, and he met my gaze. We both knew that our lives would never be the same again. And as we waited for the police to arrive, I couldn't help but wonder what the future held for us. Would we be able to rebuild our lives, or would the trauma of the past few days haunt us forever?
