MARTHA'S POV
I watched in horror as Joe's fist connected with Thomas's face. I had never seen Joe so angry before, and it scared me.
"Joe, stop! Please!" I cried, trying to grab his arm.
But Joe shook me off, his eyes blazing with anger.
"You're defending him? After what he's done?" Joe asked, his voice incredulous.
I took a step back, feeling a surge of fear.
"Joe, please listen to me. This isn't just about Thomas. It's about us, our marriage, our family," I said, trying to reason with him.
But Joe wasn't listening. He was too far gone, consumed by his anger and hurt.
"You're just like him, Martha. You're just as guilty," Joe spat, his voice venomous.
I felt a stinging sensation, as if Joe's words had physically hurt me.
"Joe, that's not fair. I'm trying to make things right," I said, feeling tears prick at the corners of my eyes.
But Joe just laughed, a cold, mirthless sound.
"Make things right? You've ruined our marriage, Martha. You've ruined our family," he said, his voice dripping with contempt.
I felt a surge of anger, but I knew I had to keep calm. I had to try and reason with Joe, to make him see sense.
". Joe, please. Let's talk about this. Let's try and work through our problems," I said, trying to sound calm and rational.
But Joe just shook his head, his eyes cold and hard.
"It's too late for that, Martha. It's too late for apologies and excuses. You've made your choice, and now you have to live with it," he said, his voice final.
I felt a chill run down my spine as I realized that Joe was serious. He was really going to leave me, to walk away from our marriage and our family.
"Joe, please don't go. Please don't leave me," I said, feeling tears stream down my face.
But Joe just turned and walked away, leaving me standing alone in the ruins of our marriage.
As I watched him go, I felt a sense of despair wash over me. I had lost Joe, and I had lost myself. I was left with nothing but the shattered remains of our marriage and the guilt of knowing that I had ruined everything.
