Chapter 1 First Encounter
Baylee stood anxiously at the Civil Affairs Bureau's entrance.
Her mood was stormy, just like the weather outside.
To repay the debt, her insane stepfather severely abused her mother and forced her to marry a man she had never seen before. Her mother was powerless to resist or flee, so she compromised.
"Miss Roach, it's all set. I'll take you to the Harrell family right now." The Harrell's butler said respectfully as he handed her the marriage certificate.
Baylee sighed as she stared at the marriage certificate in her hand, Well, rich people are always willful. I can get married without my husband's presence.
Baylee had no idea who her husband was. The only information she had was that her husband was Rylee Harrell, a 28-year-old entrepreneur in Brunswick. His company was involved in many fields, and hundreds of billions of dollars in assets made him a financial tycoon in Brunswick.
However, a car accident ten years ago left him paralyzed. Despite this, many women desired to marry into the Harrell family. After all, if they married Rylee, they'd be rich for the rest of their lives.
But Baylee didn't care about these things. She only desired simple love and peaceful life. Even if she had a hard life, the fact that her husband loved her was enough.
The silver-gray car slowly pulled up at the gate of the Harrells' mansion.
Even though she was mentally ready, as soon as she walked into the villa, her heart tightened and she felt helpless and afraid.
"Sir, she is here," the butler said politely.
"Lock her in the attic." A cold voice suddenly came through.
Hearing this, Baylee frowned slightly and felt angry, thinking, What the hell? I am not a criminal. Why do you lock me up in the attic?
At this moment, Baylee raised her head.
The man in front of her was attractive, with delicate facial feathers. His face was cold and calm, but his natural elegance shone through. People were taken aback by his regal aura.
Holy Crap! Is that Rylee? It turns out that he is not ugly at all! Baylee couldn't help wondering.
"What exactly are you looking at?" His voice was soft but disgusting.
There had never been more than a few women who could look him in the eyes for more than three seconds. Baylee was an outlier.
She was quite daring.
Rylee was initially uninterested in her, but her boldness piqued his curiosity.
He gave her a cold stare. He couldn't help but be drawn to her clear eyes after sizing her up and down. Gosh! Her eyes looked exactly like hers! he thought.
Baylee's heart beat faster as he stared at her.
What on earth was going on? Baylee wondered. I have always been brave and fearless, why do I feel so nervous when he looks at me? Come on, Baylee. You can't be like this.
Baylee attempted to relax, but her face flushed.
"Jordon, put her in the attic!" Rylee looked away and said impatiently.
"Wait a moment!" Baylee stopped the butler from approaching her. She questioned the man sitting in the middle of the main hall, "What right do you have to lock me up?"
To him, her question sounded like a provocation.
Rylee smirked and asked, "Are you resisting?"
Baylee was enraged by his arrogant appearance. She explained, "Mr. Harrell, it's true that you assisted my stepfather in repaying his debt, but I'm not your slave. I have rights and am free."
Rylee was taken aback by her words.
He then responded with a mocking smile, "Are you serious? Your father pawned you to repay a debt. And you're talking to me about your human rights and freedom? You're funny."
These had to be the most absurd words he'd heard all year.
Her heart ached as if someone had pinched it tightly due to the man's sarcastic words.
She would never marry a cripple if it weren't for her mother, no matter how wealthy he was.
Do you think you can bully others or insult their self-esteem because you are rich and powerful? Over my dead body! Baylee thought to herself.
Her wrinkle eyes glowed with determination. Despite her nervousness, she pretended to be calm and took out the marriage certificate from her bag before saying, "Mr. Harrell, you should be aware that we have married. So, I'm wondering if you'll feel embarrassed when other people find out you lock up your wife like a prisoner."
Her words astounded Rylee. He had not expected this woman to have such a high EQ.
He had assumed that a girl raised in a poor family would be timid and submissive. When they first met, he had not expected Baylee to fight bravely for herself.
This woman did not appear to be as dull as he had presumed.
Rylee smiled broadly as he considered this.
"Alright. Then let us try it another way," Rylee stated solemnly.
Baylee was perplexed and asked calmly, "What?"
He smiled cunningly and looked at her with suspicion as he said, "Your stepfather said that you have never been in a relationship before, and you are still a virgin. But I'm not sure if he lied to me."
Austin, you jerk! How could you say these shameless words to him? s**t! Baylee couldn't help thinking.
Her face was flushed with rage. She clenched her fists and reminded herself to relax.
"So?" Baylee inquired. She had a sneaking suspicion that something was hidden in his words.
"I'd like to have a check-up." Rylee looked at her coldly as if he wasn't joking.
Baylee was stunned. She quickly added, "But, I married you to pay off the debt. I'm… I'm not sleeping with you."
Baylee's mind was a jumbled mess from her panic.
"Then why do you call yourself my wife?" He gave her a curious look. "Furthermore, it is normal for a couple to sleep together. Do you want to be alone forever?"
He had no intention of sleeping with her. He was putting her to the test.
Originally, he intended to lock her up as soon as she entered the Harrells' home, giving her a black eye in the hopes that she would behave herself and not cause trouble for him. He didn't expect her to be so articulate or for him to be able to talk so much with her.
"You! Shame on you!" Even though he appeared elegant, she had not expected him to be so rude.
But surprisingly, Baylee was not annoyed when he requested this.
After giving it some thought, she realized his words made sense.
We are husband and wife, so it's reasonable for us to sleep together. But... we don't love each other at all. Gosh! What should I do? Baylee thought to herself.
"So what?" Rylee looked at her calmly and wanted to know what she would refute.
"The foundation of a perfect relationship should be love." Baylee exhaled deeply and continued, "There is nothing else to say if you don't mind. But, to be honest, I will be as motionless as a zombie in bed. It may be inconvenient for you, a lame person, to make a move. So, you should first strengthen your body, or it will be embarrassing if you can only hold on for a minute."
Rylee couldn't help but sigh when she heard her words.
Gosh! This woman is insane.
