Chapter 30I park my car in the emergency lane and lock the doors. I run through the lobby, taking the stairs two at a time to Steve’s floor. Officer Keller waits for me across the nurse’s station. A man in a raincoat and baseball cap is yelling at him and the nurses. “What’s going on here?” I ask, fright and dread climbing the back of my throat. Ben jerks a thumb over his shoulder. “The man says he’s Steve’s boss, and he wants to talk to him.” “What’s happened to Steve? I have a right to know,” the man with the baseball cap says, his face long, gaunt, and damp with rain. I can’t remember the man’s name; I’ve been introduced to him once in Steve’s company at the club. “Who are you?” I ask. “Larry Barrington. I’m Steve’s boss. I just heard about what happened.
