Julian Davenport has it all, wealth, power, and a life of luxury. As the heir to one of the most influential families in the city, he’s used to getting whatever he wants, whenever he wants it. But when Emily Carter, a headstrong and humble young woman, takes a job as a maid in his household, his world begins to shift.

Emily isn’t impressed by Julian’s arrogance or his privileged lifestyle, and she’s not afraid to call him out on his bad behavior. What starts as a clash of personalities soon turns into something neither of them expected, a slow burn that ignites into a love neither can deny.

But love isn’t easy when the divide between their worlds threatens to pull them apart. As Julian fights against family expectations and Emily wrestles with her own insecurities, they’ll both have to decide: is love worth the risk of losing everything?

Hello Davenport
Emily's POV The Davenport mansion was intimidating, to say the least. As I stood in front of its towering gates, clutching the strap of my bag like a lifeline, I couldn't help but feel small. The sprawling estate looked like something out of a magazine. Gleaming windows, manicured lawns, and a driveway that stretched longer than the main road in my old neighborhood. I shifted on my feet, my heels crunching against the gravel, and took a deep breath. *You can do this, Emily.* This job wasn’t just an opportunity; it was a necessity. My family depended on me, and I’d fought too hard to let fear stop me now. The gates creaked open, and I walked up the cobblestone path, my stomach churning with every step. By the time I reached the massive oak doors, I was positive I looked as nervous as I felt. Before I could knock, the door swung open to reveal a woman with sharp features and an even sharper gaze. “You’re late,” she said flatly. “I’m sorry, ma’am,” I began quickly, forcing a polite smile. “The bus” “No excuses.” Her clipped tone cut through my explanation like a knife. “ I’m Mrs. Hawthorne, head housekeeper. Follow me.” I barely managed a nod before she turned and strode into the mansion. The inside was even more breathtaking than the outside. High ceilings, glittering chandeliers, and floors so polished they reflected every light source. My boots scuffed the floor slightly as I followed Mrs. Hawthorne, and I winced at the sound. “You’ll find we run a tight ship here,” she continued as we passed through a grand hallway adorned with family portraits. “ Your schedule will be posted daily. You’ll report to me for any changes or concerns. And one more thing—stay out of trouble. ” “Of course, ma’am,” I replied, though I wasn’t entirely sure what “trouble” entailed in a place like this. Mrs. Hawthorne led me to the kitchen, where a whirlwind of activity was already in progress. The staff bustled about, prepping what I could only describe as a feast. Platters of fruit, stacks of pancakes, and pitchers of fresh juice covered every surface. “You’ll start in the dining room,” she instructed, handing me a stack of silverware. “ Set the table for breakfast. Properly.” I nodded, taking the utensils and headed to the dining room. The space was almost absurd in its opulence—long mahogany table, crystal chandelier, and floor-to-ceiling windows that let in the soft morning light. As I carefully arranged the place settings, I reminded myself to stay focused. This was just a job. All I had to do was keep my head down, follow orders, and avoid drawing any unnecessary attention to myself. Simple enough. Or so I thought. I had just finished placing the last fork when I heard footsteps behind me. Turning, I came face-to-face with the one and only Julian Davenport. I recognized him immediately—anyone would. He was the kind of guy you couldn’t miss, even if you wanted to. Tall, sharp-jawed, and impeccably dressed in a navy blazer that probably cost more than my entire wardrobe. His dark hair was tousled just enough to look effortless, and his piercing blue eyes... well, they were currently fixed on me with mild disdain. “And who are you?” he asked, his voice cool and detached. “The new maid,” I replied, doing my best to keep my tone polite. Julian raised an eyebrow, as if the very idea of “new maid” offended him. “Right.” He glanced at the table, then back at me. “Let’s hope you last longer than the last one.” Heat rose to my cheeks, but I kept my mouth shut. No point in snapping back—he wasn’t worth it. Julian’s entourage trailed behind him, filling the room with laughter and casual chatter. There were three of them—Lucas, Theo, and Max. I didn’t know their names yet, but they had the same air of privilege Julian did. Lucas was already cracking jokes, Theo looked bored, and Max immediately reached for a glass of juice. I tried to focus on tidying up, pretending I didn’t notice Julian watching me. He probably thought I didn’t belong here. Maybe I didn’t, but that wasn’t for him to decide. Breakfast proceeded without much drama until *it* happened. I was carrying a tray of coffee when one of Julian’s friends cracked a joke loud enough to startle me. My hand jerked slightly, and before I could steady the tray, a cup tipped over. The hot liquid spilled across the table—directly onto Julian’s pristine white shirt. The room went silent. Julian shot to his feet, his expression shifting from shock to anger in an instant. “Are you kidding me?” “I’m so sorry!” I stammered, grabbing a napkin and rushing to blot the stain. “Don’t,” he snapped, stepping back. “Do you have any idea how much this shirt costs?” I froze, the napkin still in my hand. His tone was infuriating, like I’d committed some unforgivable crime. My initial panic gave way to frustration, and before I could stop myself, the words slipped out. “Maybe if you hadn’t flailed around so much, it wouldn’t have happened.” The room erupted into muffled laughter from his friends. Julian’s eyes narrowed, his jaw tightened. “Flail?” he repeated, his voice dangerously low. “You heard me,” I said, crossing my arms. Julian stared at me like he couldn’t believe my audacity. Honestly, I couldn’t either. What was I doing? Picking a fight with my new boss’s son on my first day? Not exactly a genius move. Mrs. Hawthorne’s sharp voice cut through the tension. “Miss Carter, apologize this instant.” I bit back another retort and forced out a stiff, “I’m sorry.” Julian didn’t respond. He just glared at me for another moment before turning on his heel and storming out of the room. “Well,” Lucas said, breaking the silence. “That was entertaining.” “Shut up,” Theo muttered, though he looked amused as well. I glanced at Mrs. Hawthorne, who was staring daggers at me. “I’ll expect you to clean up this mess and finish your tasks *immediately*,” she said, her tone colder than ever. “Yes, ma’am,” I replied, swallowing my pride. As I cleaned up the coffee spill, I couldn’t help but wonder what I’d gotten myself into.
