Inside the station, Clint sits with his boots on the desk reading the paper. “Hey Sam, did you get the brat off to school.” Mason knocks Morgan’s feet off the desk. Come on Clint, you know she is a good kid, you’re just scared of kids. “Hey now, we deal with a lot of kids in the field.” Yeah, but how many of them do you have to feed, clothe, and take care of everyday? Although lately I feel like she is taking care of me. Mason smiles. “Ha, so we have a case to get to eventually, but nothing new as far as evidence.” Okay, but remind me to get Jess after school. “Even though she is a brat, you are my best friend/boss/ partner, so of course.” Everyone busies themselves with paperwork and arrests.
Sitting at their desks, Clint looks up at Sam. What is it, Clint? Mason says without even looking at Morgan. “How did you know I have a question? Mason looks up. That look of yours sends off heat signals man. So, what is it? “On my way home the other night, I swear I saw your ugly Tahoe sitting outside of a diner.” And your point? “That late at night, shouldn’t a father be at home tucking his kid into bed?” Mason just looks at Morgan, trying to decide if he should tell his best friend about the teacher. She was already asleep. Morgan jumps up and goes over to Mason’s desk and puts his hands on Mason’s desk and leans over. “Are you saying what I think your saying Sam?” Mason chuckles and leans back in his chair. What man? Are you trying to tell me that you haven’t gone on any dates in the last 5 years? Morgan stands up and claps his hands together. “Brother, come on tell me.” There is nothing to tell Clint. Just had a couple late night dinner dates, that’s all. “With whom?” Mason drops his head. Morgan can barely contain himself. “Sam!” Alright. You know Ms. Jane? “The teacher lady that helps with all the kids at Jessica’s school?” Yeah. “Dang Sam. She is a pretty lady but seriously, your too smart for her own good kid is bound to find out.” Trust me brother, I know. I thought I almost got busted this morning. “Whoa! What? Was she at the house this morning?” Oh no man. I’m not trying to bring anyone into my girls’ life unless it’s permanent. She’s too young for that kind of attachment and heart break if something happens. “But who can resist the southern, country man charm of Sam Morgan? Mason’s phone beeps and his face falls. Mason smiles again at Morgan. Maybe I can see if she has another teacher friend, if you’re not just waiting on the ADA to pick up on your charm. Mason stands and pats Morgan on the back while grabbing his hat.
