Evellyn felt her body gradually getting colder, forcing her to wake up from her deep slumber.
When she opened her eyes, she saw an unusual dim light over her.
In confusion, she slowly moved and sat up. Although her eyes were still hazy from her sleep, she was certain she was not in her room.
It was an unfamiliar, spacious vacant room.
She gently rubbed her eyes and she realized that it was her golden hair that was making a dim light over her. With the help of the glimmer of her hair, she was able to slightly discern where she was.
However, a sudden surge of emotions rushed inside her head, overwhelming her, and causing her to slowly move back toward the corner and curl down.
Unfamiliar feelings began to emerge inside her and flow out like an endless torrent.
Despair ...
Remorse ...
Vulnerable ...
Desolation ...
Fear and Rage ...
She felt all these at the same time. Even her body was shivering as a reaction to these emotions hammering inside her.
Evelyn curled up like a ball, refusing to lift her head, trying her best to hide and suppress it between her arms and legs.
Out of nowhere, she heard someone calling her in the darkness.
"Darling?"
"My little Vee?"
Her pet name echoed and she suddenly recognized her grandmother's voice.
She lifted her head and all of a sudden only the longing remained inside her heart.
"Grandma?" She asked.
A moment later, a voice echoed inside the room.
"My dearest Vee, always remember... don't fail your grandmother, darling."
"Grandma, is that you?" She asked again.
Evellyn tried following the voice even though she could only see darkness.
"Grandma! Where are you?!"
She called again.
However, this time only silence replied to her.
Suddenly, strange voices came out of nowhere.
Shrills of furious and delirious men.
Women wailing out their sadness, regret, and pain.
And children's soft weeps and chattering teeth.
Every end of her hair stood up, listening to these dreadful noises that gradually got louder and louder.
She could even feel like they were right beside her, complaining to her.
"Who is it? Stop it! I command you."
With great difficulty, she screamed with one breath.
Unable to endure the earsplitting noises, Evelyn cupped her hands to her ears.
Suddenly, the noise died down and a complete silence enveloped the room once again.
Yet, she felt danger looming over her, every end of her hair stood straight.
She raised her head and a pair of scarlet eyes met hers, staring menacingly at her.
She fell on her knees in alarm.
A shadowy creature was crouching in front of her. It was drooling while looking at her.
All her strength suddenly left her body. Evelyn could not move her legs at all.
It seems like it's eyeing its prey.
Waiting for the right moment to seize her.
After a series of heavy breathing, she was able to clear her head and calm her heart.
She cautiously crawled away from the monster in front of her, not even trying to break her line of sight at it.
While she was keeping a distance away from the monster, she noticed something strange on the floor that she was crawling on.
Her palms and legs were wet.
She moved her gaze down and then found out that she was soaked in a pool of blood.
She saw a reflection of herself holding something in her hand.
Surprised, she focused on her reflection on the bloodied floor.
Suddenly Evelyn forgot about the shadow and all her attention was on her reflection alone.
Evellyn moved her face closer, trying to distinguish what she was holding.
A ripple suddenly appeared, and then the blood stilled. A clear image of a goblet reflected.
'A Goblet? Why is that in my hand?'
It was her first time seeing that goblet. She couldn't remember possessing a goblet like that.
Unexpectedly, several blooded hands emerged from the pool of blood. Grabbing her head and pulling her down.
She was shocked and felt helpless.
Evellyn tried summoning her powers but nothing came out.
She screamed, unable to free her head from the clutch of blooded hands.
Evellyn gathered all her remaining strength, she forced and pulled herself back.
After successfully pulling herself back, several figures sprang up from the bloodied floor.
They wailed and moaned while crawling toward her.
Afraid of being dragged down by them again, she cowered back.
She was about to stand up and run away, but she felt something towering behind her.
A pair of cold hands gripped her shoulders, preventing her from moving and standing.
Fear crept into her mind.
She gulped her saliva and slowly raised her head.
The same pair of scarlet eyes met her watery eyes.
However, she did not expect the shadow to change and appeared as Zelion.
Zelion grinned while looking at her surprised reaction.
"Where do you think you are going? Don't worry my lady ... You'll be joining them soon."
Slowly, his mouth and sharp teeth descended toward her eyes.
All the air inside her lungs felt like it was sucked out.
She gasped one last breath...
Chirp chirp!
"Haaaa!"
The sound of singing birds fetches her out of her nightmare.
Her heart was beating rapidly.
After a few minutes, Evelyn finally calmed down and steadied her breathing.
She sighed and stared at the ceiling.
"Zelion" She unconsciously muttered his name.
She did not expect that she would have a nightmare about him.
He is undoubtedly her family's most powerful weapon.
Controlling him would be perilous.
If one is not careful enough, he will mercilessly swallow you up without even knowing when or how.
It is like wielding a double-edged sword.
Evellyn must wield him with great precision. Or else, it might point its sharp edge at her and snatch her life away without her knowing.
Zelion could still endanger her life even if he is constrained by a slave contract from attacking the Nightingale family directly and must submit to their orders without question.
Besides, he has already done it in the past to previous people in this house.
Evellyn tried to come up with ideas for completely gaining his loyalty.
After some silent thoughts, she muttered under her blanket.
"This nightmare will be a long one, I guess.'
She helplessly sighed and turned her head towards the window.
Evellyn realized that it was already morning.
She squinted her eyes when the sunlight illuminated her room. After forcing her eyes to get used to the bright morning.
A woman's voice coming from the other side of the door was heard.
"My Lady, are you awake? I'm here for your breakfast and morning service."
She snapped out of her thoughts and looked at the door.
"I am. Come in."
Evellyn languidly sat up on her bed waiting for the maid to serve her.
She saw Lydia pushing a wheeled tray with her morning meals on it.
Her breakfast for today was surprisingly normal.
It's a piece of bread, a fried egg, a sausage, and a cup of Chamomile tea.
Evellyn's countenance brightened when she saw her breakfast and started eating it with great enthusiasm.
"Today's breakfast is wonderful, Lydia. Thank you."
"It's my duty to take care of you, my Lady."
Evelyn has finished eating her meal and lets Lydia help her wash up.
Thereafter, she changed into another set of clean clothes and sat on the couch, drinking her tea leisurely.
Lydia then took all the plates and servers back to the tray. She then turned around and faced Evellyn.
"My Lady, I brought a message from Master. This afternoon, he would like to have a word with you."
She then respectfully bowed her head and silently waited for her reply.
After hearing his message, Evellyn's brow raised slightly.
Thinking about their little heated conversation last night. She did not expect him to look for her.
She admits she did something shameless to him.
Zelion cannot blame her.
He was challenging her last night. Naturally, Evellyn would retaliate.
She was, indeed, not able to restrain herself from teasing him either.
Suddenly Evellyn recalled something.
She remembered that her flirtatious remark and gesture last night had some effects on him.
It was still clear in Evellyn's mind how dumbfounded and stiff his face was during that night. His ears were as red as a tomato too.
Thinking about his reaction last night, Evellyn unconsciously smiled.
Although she was confident about her charm and appearance, she did not expect that kind of reaction from him.
'That's right! Perhaps, I can use the fact that he is also a man.
I have seduced quite a few men before and have taken good benefits from it.
Although it is uncertain if I will get the result I wanted, obviously because he is not a normal person but an archdemon, I guess it is worth the try.
I should meet him and start my plan of getting his loyalty in my hands. The sooner the better.'
She thought more about it and decided to meet him.
After taking a sip from her teacup, Evellyn glanced at it and gave her reply to Lydia.
"Please tell him, I will gladly meet him this afternoon."
"I will send your reply, my Lady. If you need anything, just ring the bell and I shall serve you right away."
Lydia then pushed the tray back towards the door.
Evellyn looked outside her balcony and took a whiff of the morning air.
The springtime wind permeated her room, bringing some kind of nostalgia to her.
Somehow, it felt like she was back in her grandmother's house, just listening to the rustling of the trees and wind, and the birds singing outside.
It feels comforting.
Evellyn laughed when she thought about it.
It was quite funny for her to think this place is comforting and nice when she is well aware that she is currently living in a hell hole right now.
Gazing at the teacup she was holding, his handsome countenance appeared inside her head.
His flustered face and flushed ears made her morning tea more pleasing and sweet.
"Interesting". Evellyn murmured while sipping her tea amusedly.
---
After knocking twice, Evellyn went straight inside without waiting for anyone's permission from the other side of the room.
She was welcomed by the sight of broad and masculine shoulders.
A very attractive man holding a glass of alcohol by the window.
His firm and toned muscles can almost be seen through his white shirt.
It is an exquisite sight to behold.
Any woman would drool at that sight and she undeniably, in her head, savored every bit of that God-like beauty in front of her.
After taking her time enjoying this pleasant-to-the-eyes scenery, she said to him.
"I was informed that you would like to have a word with me.
Honestly, I was not expecting you would invite me today, Zelion."
Leisurely, Evellyn went near to the study table.
Her fingertips softly touched the edges of the lacquered dark table whilst making her way to the comfortable chair behind it.
She sat elegantly on the chair with her fingers comfortably intertwined with each other, waiting for his response.
Zelion gulped down the remaining alcohol and stared at the empty glass intently.
He narrowed his eyes, not even trying to hide his annoyance from his face.
'This woman, after what she did last night, still has the face to confidently smile at me.'
It was hard to tell from his unblemished face, but he didn't sleep a wink. And it was all because of her.
Just one touch from her made his entire body go ablaze with lust, persistently throughout the night.
Zelion used so much energy to relieve himself from that unwanted pleasure she gave him.
He was very vexed by her and even more frustrated that he could not raise a hand to punish her.
The only thing he could do was treat her disrespectfully.
On the other hand, Evelyn was not bothered at all by his rude behavior.
She just faced him calmly.
Suddenly, Zelion noticed something strange about her.
When Evelyn first entered the room, Zelion tried touching her consciousness.
However, he was puzzled that he could not see anything inside her head. There was a hazy wall that was preventing him from fully accessing her mind.
Then he shifted his attention to her aura and his eyebrows furrowed with perplexity.
He had never met any human in his lifetime with a similar aura to her.
She has an aura similar to her family, but at the same time, she is not.
She's not completely human, but also not a magical entity either.
She's bizarre.
Like she does not belong in this world.
He could not wrap his head around it and just dropped his suspicion. Either way, whether she is a human or not, he will soon be freed from his curse.
The only thing Zelion was certain of was ' She is a walking aphrodisiac'.
And last night's eventful dinner was clear evidence of that conclusion.
He couldn't help but hiss to his reaction at that time.
No matter what, Zelion refused to lie down after the humiliation he had received last night.
A moment later, to Evellyn's surprise, he showed a servile attitude and amiably smiled at her.
"Of course, there are some things that need to be clear, my lady".
"Hmm..."
Evelyn nodded and said, "Enlighten me then."
" As you are already aware, I have been serving your family for almost a millennium. And for me to fully serve my master efficiently, I have to know something first. "
"Like what?"
"Your wish. Your desire!
I don't want to brag but, I have successfully assisted all the family Head of Nightingale, whether it's wealth, power, influence, and even killed people they want to get rid of.
And now that you are the only descendant of this family, you are currently the sole head of the Duchy.
So, let me do my part and serve you well. Tell me, what do you desire, My Lady?"
Zelion made his way in front of the desk.
He carefully examines her reaction, probing her interest.
'Tell me...
Don't be shy, reveal your truest desire...
I shall serve it swiftly together with your demise.'
He silently snickered.
"Sounds like you are indeed a competent servant to my family.
I'll be at ease, knowing you'll do whatever I want."
Evellyn then showed her innocent face while making her voice gentle and soft like a feather.
However, inside her mind, she could not help but be amazed at how two-faced this demon was.
It was just yesterday when she saw him peering through the window with his eyes filled with animosity towards her.
Yet now, his eyes were looking at her so sincerely. Like his hatred, yesterday was just a brief illusion.
Sensing something was wrong with his behavior, she then thought that there must be a devious scheme he was lying around.
'Ohho, I couldn't care less. He must be thinking of a devious plan.'
'Is this how you push my family members to their deaths?'
'Showering them with your sweet and reassuring assistance.'
'And they eventually succumb to their greed and desire.'
'Your scheme is too obvious and boring.' Evellyn thought and sighed with disappointment.
Zelion was underestimating her.
Likewise, she was disappointed with her family too, being tricked easily by his pellucid plan.
Being easily blinded by his words, she could imagine how ambitious the people in this house before her were.
To die due to their incompetence and being blinded by their greediness.
'How stupid...' She thought.
Suddenly, an idea came to her mind.
Evellyn smiled brightly at him, while Zelion, on the other hand, was anticipating her answer to be either money, fame, men, or everlasting beauty.
Since those were the common desires of women that he familiarly knew of.
"Then, my Heiress, please tell me what you desire and I will wholeheartedly devote myself to making it happen," Zelion said with his devilish smile.
Evellyn nodded and said.
"I want you to be my bed servant."
.
.
.
.
'What?'
Unable to process what he had just heard.
Zelion asked again.
"Pardon my Lady, what did you just say? You want what?"
"You, as my bed servant"
With her honey-sweet voice, she uttered every word carefully.
"You must be joking."
He couldn't possibly believe that she wanted him to be her bed servant.
Zelion's face was now in utter disbelief.
There's nothing wrong about getting a bed servant for her,
But why Him?!
He could not fathom why she would want him to be her bed servant.
He is a Demon, an Archdemon at that.
An entity that every mortal would cower from fear.
And she, on the other hand, wants him to share a bed at night and do those sorts of pleasurable things.
Zelion was utterly speechless at her assertion.
Evellyn showed him an annoyed look.
"You think I'm joking?
Shall I prove to you that I'm not?"
"You jest, right? That was not funny at all, My Lady."
"Then, I shall prove to you that I'm not."
Evellyn stood up and swiftly grabbed Zelion's glass, smashed it on the edge of the table, and used a chunk of glass shard to cut her right palm.
Zelion's brows furrowed, watching her wounding herself.
Her palm started to bleed.
Then and there Evellyn softly chanted. Using her blood, she drew ancient runes in the air.
The bright and sunny afternoon immediately turned gloomy.
A loud clap of thunder suddenly reverberated outside.
Lightning gathered in the sky, showing signs that any moment it would strike down mercilessly.
Zelion was stunned. He was not expecting that she would conjure a spell to prove her words.
Furthermore, based on the mana she was emitting, it was not just average magic she was conjuring but high-tier magic.
Zelion narrowed his eyes and he suddenly realized something.
The Imperial Family
He hastily stopped her.
"Alright, I believe you. Stop it now. You'll drain your energy if you continue to use your magic impulsively."
If the Imperial Family notices her, they might try to interfere with his plans.
Especially when they have been eyeing how to transfer his curse.
The Emperor, in particular, impudently desires to be served by him.
He thinks he is a brainless pile of flesh, dreaming of enslaving him for eternity.
In which, he won't let that happen.
He has waited for so long, he can't let that happen.
Evellyn's stance didn't budge. She continued to chant and the first lightning struck down.
She grinned at him and said,
"Uhm, I think it's too late now for me to stop Zelion."
Another lightning descended from the sky and landed on the iron gate outside the mansion.
"You don't have to worry about me. This incantation is not for me.
But, for you."
Her voice was almost inaudible due to the earsplitting sound of the third lightning, striking down on the biggest tree outside the window.
The moment that lightning touched the massive tree, it became a big piece of charcoal with its leaves and branches instantly turned into ashes.
"Heareth me! In this very moment marks thy first service to me. Beest mine bed servant! Zelion hath taken mine first command"
A sudden clap of thunder responded to her.
Amidst the commotion and her palm ceaselessly bleeding, she appeared majestically. Her golden hair floated beautifully and her electric-blue eyes gleamed brilliantly.
Unfortunately for Zelion, there are no words that can convince her to stop now, she's intent on putting this command on him. She's even spilled her blood to conjure something on this scale.
"This is utter rubbish! Wasting such tremendous mana just to force me to be your bed servant. You are a lunatic!"
He yelled with great frustration.
A massive force suddenly caused him to kneel on the floor.
He gritted his teeth and vehemently refused.
"Ook ah-FEE-suh av-too sym-VAH-nee! I - will - never ... argh..!."
Out of nowhere, a loud bang shook the room and in a split second, a huge crack appeared in the wall and on the floor.
Evellyn watched him beneath her feet, desperately trying to fight back.
Sadly for him, his struggle is useless.
A Nightingale's descendant's command is absolute. He had nothing else to choose than to submit.
Otherwise, he will endure intolerable torment for a lengthy time, which certainly wasn't the goal he desired.
But eventually, he succumbed to exhaustion and accepted his fate.
"I - I - I'll d-do it! I yield!"
After hearing his reply, the dark clouds that mercilessly reigned in the sky vanished.
The bright and sunny afternoon returned.
Only the burned grass and trees, as well as the sparks on the iron fence, were the only evidence that the manor's area had recently seen tremendous thunder and lightning.
There was a long silence in the study room where Evellyn and Zelion were staying.
Naturally, his injuries and cuts began to heal right away.
Only his expression had not yet recovered from the shock he had experienced.
As Zelion was about to stand up again after gathering his thoughts once more, the silence was broken by the sound of a tearing cloth.
He stared at Evellyn, who was busily tearing her garment. She wrapped the piece of fabric around her bleeding palm as though it were nothing out of the ordinary.
Zelion was in awe of how shameless she had been when she had tried to impose her will on him.
He could see that she was becoming even more shameless as she tore up her skirt in front of him, exposing the exquisite white skin of her thigh.
Evellyn caught Zelion's fixated gaze on her exposed leg.
She didn't feel the least bit ashamed. Nothing in her reach could be easily torn and used as a bandage except her satin skirt.
She didn't think twice and used the skirt of her satin dress as a bandage since only Zelion was in the room with her.
As soon as she caught sight of his distracted expression, her self-confidence shot through the roof, and moved her leg out from under the dress slit brazenly.
Before Zelion's very eyes, her entire leg was on display.
Her whole leg was exposed right in front of his eyes.
He immediately turned his gaze back to the ground and got to his feet with difficulty.
His kind and subservient façade had vanished, and an evil and haughty expression appeared on his face.
Zelion turned his back and walked towards the door.
Just as he was ready to open the door, Evellyn called out his name.
"Zelion. Come to me at seven tonight", she reminded him.
Zelion did not turn around. He slammed the door behind him as he stormed out of the room.
Lydia knocked on the door a short while later.
"My Lady, I'm coming in. I've brought some medicine and a spare dress for you to change into."
Evellyn was taken aback that Lydia was aware of her current needs.
She imagined Lydia had been asked by him to assist her.
