Moving Day
Sarah's P.O.V It's moving day and I am not particularly happy that we have to move. It's three months into the school year and I have to start all over again. Not only that, but I am crammed in a car with my parents, my sister Josephine, and the family dog max. We are going back to Connecticut after my father's job gave him a promotion; he has become the C.E.O at his company. The only thing I am excited about is seeing my best friend Christina, and my old neighbor Jack. I have had a crush on him since I could remember. He was every girl's dream; he was tall and very muscular. Jack had shaggy black hair that fell just at the top of his dreamy green eyes. His hair was tousled and just long enough for me to imagine running my fingers through it. I'm sure much hasn't changed about Jack, but I guess time will tell. Well, at least the car ride anyway. I spent the next four hours of the car ride with my eyes closed listening to my music; wishing that it was over already. I really did not want to spend the whole ride listening to my dad talk about his new job. That man could talk somebody's ear off when it came to work. I must have dozed off at some point because, when I opened my eyes, we were just about to turn onto our old block. My mother and father had bought a house down the street from our old place, so inevitably we had to drive past Jack's place. My heart skipped a beat when we did, because there he was standing in his front yard.   Josephine had pulled me out of my thoughts when she taped me on the shoulder. I had pulled my earbuds out in time to hear her excited exclamation as it sounded more like a high pitched squeal. " Isn't it beautiful! We finally move back home to a nice big house and we get to have the first pick of the rooms. Of course, without the master bedroom being one of them". I grabbed my bag and got ready to hop out of the car as soon as we pulled into the driveway. I honestly could not wait to see what the inside looked like. I didn't want anything to fancy, because then that's all we would be known for in the entire school district. I opened the front door, being the first person to take in all the beauty that was withheld inside. It was modern yet sophisticated. I hurried upstairs to get the first pick for my room. The room I had decided on was the second biggest, of course. It would fit all my belongings in it very nicely. Not only that, the room overlooked the backyard and had a nice-sized inground pool. How couldn't wait to spend my summers out in that pool or on the patio right beside it. I began setting up my room when my phone buzzed. How could I almost forget Christina was coming over to see everyone once we unpacked. I began putting my belongings away when there was a sudden knock on the door. Who could it be we just got here and I was sure, besides Christina, we had not been expecting any guests at the moment. I thought it may have something to do with my father's job. Another knock came louder, signaling that nobody had answered the door, which seemed a bit strange. I yelled to my parents that I was going to get the door, but still no answer. Maybe everyone was back at the car again getting more of our belongings.   I carried myself down the stairs and paused for a moment when I reached the end. There were three silhouettes in the glass oval window that I could make out. I continued to walk to the door to open it. It had to be my father's business partners to go over some last-minute details before the start of his first day. I was completely and utterly shocked when I was faced with Jack and his two best friends, Danny and Billy. Danny was to Jack's left and Billy to his right. It took me a moment to realize I had forgotten to continue my breathing as I took in the sight of Jack. The two years we had been gone had definitely done nothing more but make him even hotter than he already was. If only he knew what that dazzling smile and those piercing green eyes had done to me. I could feel heat pulling under my cheeks and tried to divert the attention of my mind to something else. Jack had no idea I was in love with him, and I intended to keep it that way. Plus, he has shown me more than once that he only looks at me like a sibling or acquaintance.   "Hi Sarah, long time how have you been, nerd?'.   My knees felt like they were going to buckle. Jack's voice had gotten a little bit deeper than I remembered, and he was definitely taller. I now only stood up to about his shoulder.   "I have been fine thank you. Name-calling is not really necessary, Jack". I gave a little pout with it at the end just to see the reaction I would get, but nothing.   "Still as feisty as before, I see. My mom told me to bring over these cookies she's baked for you guys. She said to tell your parents that she would love to have dinner some time and catch up like they used to. I also didn't mind doing a favor for her, so I could stop by and say hello to my favorite person".   " I highly doubt I'm your favorite person. All you do is tease and taunt me like a little kid. That's what you missed". I already knew that was the only thing he missed about me. It was like I was his own personal game to play. His own little chess piece he could bully around and nothing would be done about it. I realized then that my parents weren't even home. The once occupied driveway showed a couple of boxes. I wonder where they had gone off to. They didn't say anything about leaving. My phone buzzed and it was just then that I realized my sister was gone, so she texted to let me know she was meeting Christina and walking back to our place with her. I invited the boys to come inside rather than keeping them standing at the door to continue the conversation. I was genuinely interested in catching up on all the stuff I had missed. I took all three of the boys into the kitchen and placed the cookies on the counter. I looked at the end of the counter, and saw a note. It was from my parents saying they had run to pick up dinner, and that they would be back in approximately forty-five minutes.   Great, so now here I was in the kitchen with three boys all by myself and where to begin the conversation. I turned my attention back to Jack, Billy, and Danny. I tried to remain as casual as I could when I realized all we were doing was staring at each other, and the way they were staring at me was utterly devouring, but why? Well, let's make that one person who was staring at me like I was utterly devouring and the other two as normal as could be. " Lemonade anyone?' I asked as I turned to the fridge. I couldn't put my finger on it but jack was up to something, and it was my job to figure it out. I decided to make this less awkward for myself and asked them what they had been doing for the past two years other than continuing school, of course. I found out that Danny had started playing football, and Billy had started an after-school job at a local restaurant. Jack had taken on wrestling in his free time, I guess to help alleviate the stress he was under from all the girls swooning at him.   I decided to take the guys to the back yard to continue our little catch-up session. This was to alleviate my awkwardness and my tension. Jack asked to use the bathroom before we went out, so I told him where he could find it. Danny and Billy found their way out to the table and chairs and I began to get the cups and a pitcher of lemonade. I was just about to take them out when I felt a warm breath on the back of my neck. The closeness from Jack was intoxicating. He was like a breath of fresh air, and yet at the same time a breath of torment, because he was more than likely teasing me.   "You know you came back just in time. I need a math tutor, and I know you're a math whiz, nerd".   I quickly agreed to help him without even thinking, and with that headed outside with drinks in hand. Just as we all began chatting more, my sister came home, but without Christina. She sat down and began telling me that Christina had a family emergency to tend to. We all spent what seemed like hours talking about all the fun and amazing things we have gotten to do over the past two years. I glanced across the table to Jack, giving me that same look he gave to me in the kitchen. Just what has he been thinking? He was probably thinking of all the ways he could torment me now that we had moved back, and I  don't think I'm quite ready for that.  Of course, I just gave him the best ticket in by agreeing to help tutor him. The boys had gotten up to head back to Jack's place. Joesphine had said good-bye to all of them and went upstairs, leaving me all alone to walk them to the door. I said good-bye and closed the door, but not before Jack was able to yell that he wanted to start tutoring tomorrow after school. Awesome not even a full twenty-four hours and I was already going to be alone with him completely at his mercy. I headed upstairs to shower and get ready for bed; I felt a long week of torture coming up and definitely had to be ready for whatever was to come my way.
