Panic surged through me as I stared at Anita. Her skin, once so full of life, was turning an unnatural shade of gray, like the color was being drained from her body. The darkness...it was creeping, crawling, devouring her from the inside out. I wanted to rush to her, to help somehow, but I was rooted to the spot, my instincts screaming at me to stay back.
