260 Words
Once the Lion, the king of the jungle, passed away. All the wild animals observed mourning for three days. Then they met together and discussed about electing a successor to the king. The monkey attracted everyone's attention by his pranks. The assembly became cheerful and elected the monkey as the king. The monkey was crowned as king. The Jackal did not like this. He became jealous of the monkey. He made a plan to get the monkey in to trouble and remove him from power. Meanwhile in another part of the forest, some hunters had set an iron trap to hunt animals. They placed some delicacies in the trap in order to attract animals. The Jackal noticed this. He ran straight to the king monkey and said," oh king, there is a grand feast awaiting you. I shall show it to you. If you will be pleased to come with me. The monkey was unaware of the jackal's cunning plan. The Jackal took him to the trap where the hunters were waiting. The monkey saw the delicacies. He put his hand to take them. Suddenly his hand was firmly caught in the trap. The monkey cried aloud unable to bear the pain. He scolded the Jackal as traited and cunning rogue. The Jackal remarked , "what a king! You are unfit to be king if you do not know a trap." The Jackal went in to the forest to spread the news of the monkey's fate. Thus the moral in the story is that one who cannot protect himself cannot protect others.
