Chapter 3

Chapter 3 Ivy’s POV I had reached my breaking point. Yes, Arya was right. I had to escape. The upcoming ceremony, where Selene would be celebrated as the future Luna was the perfect distraction. The entire pack would be gathered, their focus on celebrating the woman they had all come to adore. No one would notice one insignificant omega slipping away. Under the cover of darkness on that day, I made my move. My heartbeat pounded in my ears, the rush of adrenaline making my limbs tremble with the thought of what would happen if I got caught. I finally made my way out of the pack house, now running carefully towards the way that led to the border. Freedom was within reach. Feeling tired, I had been running for hours. For the past 48 hours, I hadn’t had any food to eat. I was feeling weak so I decided to take some rest. My heart was pounding so fast as I sat beneath a tree but suddenly drifted off to sleep. Then, suddenly, there was a crushing grip that grabbed me by the hair and yanked my head back. I gasped as strong hands clamped down on my arms.. Warriors emerged from every corner. I thrashed, trying to rip myself free, but they were too strong. My nails scraped against their rough skin but it didn’t seem to have an effect on them. I never made it past the border, I was just a few inches away, about 20 more minutes to get there if I hadn’t slept off. Now I was so certain I was cursed. Even the moon goddess had turned her back on me. They dragged me through the bushes, my feet barely touching the ground as I fought against their hold. While they dragged me back to the pack house, I could hear laughters and music coming from the celebration ground. Celebration for Selene, their beloved future Luna who will be mated to Ronan in 3 full moons to come. I was shoved inside, the door slammed shut behind us. Warriors flanked my sides as they dragged me through, passing the stunned gazes of pack members. I could feel their shock, their disgust. Once we got there, they threw me in as I fell in the midst of everyone. The cold marble floor greeted me harshly, the impact jarring my bones. Pain shot through my knees and palms, but I bit down on my lip to keep them from crying out, the room fell silent, the once-lively chatter cheering voices of everyone snuffed out as the pack turned to stare. Just then, voices came like murmurs. It started low and then it increased, the pack members' voices came with judgements. “What has she done this time?” Said one of them. “Maybe she tried stealing.” Another responded. “She’s shameless.” Another voice added. It continued that way as their voice grew louder. My eyes had already turned red from the tears that ran down my eyes. “How dare you?!” Selene yelled from a distance as she rushed to me. “Spoiling my day with your presence demanding attention, huh?” She added as she dragged me up, pushing me out. “Let me go.” I said and tried pulling away from her grip. Just when I thought she wouldn’t leave me, she left me and I hit the floor. Brushing my already injured arm. I winced at the sores, watching how my blood rolled down my arm. “We caught her trying to flee the pack.” One of the warriors announced. Ronan approached, at the center of it all, he stood tall. Ronan’s eyes burned down on me, standing slightly near me, he wore a smirk, amused, as if my pathetic attempt to flee was nothing more than a mild source of entertainment. He stood with his arms crossed, his piercing eyes drilling into me with something I couldn’t quite place. And then Selene stood beside him. A smirk curled her lips as she gazed down at me like I was dirt beneath her feet. She tilted her head, her voice dripping with mock sympathy. “She tried to run?” she asked, her words laced with amusement. “How ungrateful.” I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms. Ronan took another step forward, now standing in front of me. His expression remained unreadable, but his presence alone was enough to make me scream for forgiveness. “You dared to run,” he said, his voice carried an edge that sent shivers down my spine. “I dared to leave,” I corrected, lifting my chin defiantly. “Because I do not belong here.” There was silence. I could see how everyone stared in surprise of how I got the courage to talk back. Then he burst into laughter before he squatted right in front of me. “You dare talk back?” his icy eyes twinkled with dark amusement. “Oh, so much courage.” “I want to go!” I yelled at him. “Go? You were never meant to belong anywhere.” He replied. My chest ached, but I refused to let his words shatter me. “You don’t want me,” I spat, my voice rising. “You all never wanted me. The pack despises me. You’re making Selene your Luna soon. Then let me go!” I summoned the little energy I had as I stood at my feet and turned to the gathered wolves, my gaze sweeping over him in courage. “Let me go!” I shouted. “I have no place here! Why do you all derive joy in hurting me?” The hall remained silent, an unmovable gathering of indifference. Then Ronan grabbed me by the hair. His eyes darkened. “You don’t decide when you leave.” The words sent a shudder through me. “Imprison her,” Ronan commanded. The guards moved instantly, grabbing my arms once more. I kicked and screamed, struggling as they dragged me away. “You cowards!” I screamed, thrashing wildly. “You act like gods, but you’re nothing but tyrants!” A deep rage welled within me, fury hotter than anything I had ever felt before. I raked against them as I was pulled away. I screamed at the Moon Goddess. “You cursed me with this life, so I curse you back!” My voice rang through the grand hall, filled with hatred. “You sit above us, watching as we omegas suffer, as wolves like them play god! I curse them! I curse you all!” The room remained silent. “I curse this pack, this bloodline! May you know the pain of powerlessness! May the fates strip you of everything you cherish! May your hearts rot in the misery you’ve inflicted upon others!” Gasps echoed through the room. A ripple of unease spread through the pack, wolves shifting uncomfortably. Even the warriors dragging me hesitated for a fraction of a second. But I didn’t stop. “You will regret this!” I swore. “I will make you all regret this!” Ronan remained still, his expression unreadable. His piercing eyes followed me as I was dragged away. Selene’s wicked smirk was the last thing I saw before the door shut.
