Chapter 16 0815 Hours September 20, 1940 Office of Military Personnel and Finance United States Army Infantry School Fort Benning, Georgia The Infantry School commandant considered personnel and finance to be support functions. Though important, he declined to house these operations in the main building of the celebrated Infantry School. Instead, the commander situated the personnel and finance offices in less desirable quarters in ‘temporary’ buildings in the rear of the headquarters. Perhaps in revenge for their predicament, administrative non-commissioned officers took pleasure in harassing the new second lieutenants from the basic course.
