Chapter 15 10:30 AM June 25, 1940 State Highway 74 Waggoners Gap, Pennsylvania Phillip sat in the front seat of Phil’s blue roadster, as his son negotiated the sharp turns and switchbacks of the old state road up to Waggoners Gap. Phillip looked around the interior of the car. Phil had maintained it beautifully over the last four years. The roadster didn’t look or act its age. The engine purred like a hungry tiger, making short work of the steep grade. This buggy had a few good years left in her. Phillip watched as his son shifted the gears up and down, working the brake and clutch in perfect synchronization. Phil knew this baby’s idiosyncrasies. Phillip would ask Bill to give the roadster a good tune up before Lieutenant Genero left for the basic class at the Infantry School next
