Chapter 7 9:00 PM August 10, 1936 The Genero Farm Cumberland County, Pennsylvania One Quarter Mile Southeast of Waggoners Gap Phil’s dad walked through the back door of the rambling farmhouse. He picked his way in the dark, negotiating the narrow dirt path beyond the high fence that separated the family compound from the pasture. He continued toward the ridgeline, until the distance muted the sound of the party. High above the eastern hills, the quarter-moon cast a pale glow on the pasture and surrounding trees, all the way to the hills to the northwest. Phillip needed a quiet moment alone. He didn’t want to embarrass his son. Not tonight. He’d always known that this day would come Phillip understood that his son needed to grow, prosper, and learn how to make his way in the world.
