Chapter Fifteen

Jack’s Perspective:

I held her close to my chest, “Stay with me Baby Girl. Stay with me.” I looked up as everyone was running, “Someone call nine one one, Now!” Melissa came to my side, “Jack the ambulance is on their way. She will be ok.” I looked at her, “I want to kill him.” She shook her head at me, “Jack the police have him. He can’t hurt anyone anymore.” I held my baby girl close as the blood covered me. The EMT ran over to get her to the hospital, “Hold on Monica, I will be there with you soon.”

Rick walked up to me as they took her in the ambulance, “Come on. I will drive.” I followed him to the SUV, “Cindy told me to tell you that she is taking Conor home and the rest of the family will join them until they hear from you.” He dipped through traffic to keep up with the ambulance as tears were flowing down my face, “I can’t lose her.” He sighed, “None of us can, Boss.” I shook my head, “She has to be ok.” Rick looked over to me and placed his hand on my shoulder, “I know.” Rick pulled into the front of the emergency entrance as I jumped out of the SUV for him to take off.

I ran by the nursing station when I heard a woman's voice, “Sir, you can’t just run in there.” I looked at her with pleading in my eyes to let me go by, “It is my wife. She was shot and is due with our twins.” She shocked her head as she looked down at the computer, “I am sorry sir. What is her name? Then I can show you where you can go.” I spitted out her name without thinking, “Monica Jackson.” I shook my head, “She may be under Winters. We literally just got married.” She looked over at me for her eyes to follow my body down and up seeing that I had Monica’s blood all over me.

She sighted, “We have her right here. They placed her in as Jackson. Looks like they took her to surgery. I will show to the waiting area and the doctor will come and talk to you there.” I nodded my head as I followed the nurse as I saw Rick jogging up the hallway. The nurse turned towards him, “He is with you?” I nodded my head, “Yes he is.” She waited as Rick caught up then walked us to the family room, “No one will bother you in here. I will let the doctor know where to find you. He may have some questions for you.”

Rick and I went into the room as the door shut. I kicked the chair that was in front of me, “Rick, I should have listened to that damn letter. If we would have secretly got married.” Rick shook his head, “Boss, you did everything you could to keep her safe. The police will have more information once they talk to Billy on how he passed everyone in that church to make that shot.” I held up the letter and reread it:

“Jack,

I saw you and MY Rose is about to get married in the papers. You must think I am stupid by hiding all the details. I will find her, and this letter will find you. If I can’t have her then no one can. If you marry her then you will find out what I mean by that.

Rose’s First Love and Only Love.”

I crushed the letter in my hand when I heard a knock on the door as Cruz opened the door, “Jack, I am sorry.” I shook my head, “Joel, what the hell happened?” He placed his hand on my shoulder, “We are looking into everything on how it happened. Something just doesn’t sit right with me. We took every measure. How did he get in there?” I shrugged my shoulders, “His father was a Captain in Chicago. So maybe...”

Cruz sat down on one of the chairs as I sat across from him as he said, “I remember, Monica saying something about that. I will see if anyone has a connection to Chicago that was involved today.” I lifted my eyebrow, “You think someone on your team may have helped him get close to Monica?” He looked down as he leaned forward, “It is an angle.” I nodded as Cruz sat with me and Rick.

I gave Abby updates to keep everyone in the loop when she texted, “Any news, yet?” I shook my head, “The nurse said we should hear something soon.”  I sighed as I read her next text, “It's been like five hours.” I shook my head, “I know... Abby I am losing it!” I leaned forward in my seat as she replied, “Jack, she is a strong woman. She fought that asshole once and she can do it again.” I chuckled, “She told you.” Rick lifted his eyebrow as he looked down at my phone, “Right before we left for the church.” I sat back and looked up at the ceiling then texted, “My Rose, Not his.” Rick shook his head as he placed his hand on my shoulder as his soon to be wife texted again, “That is right, Your Rose, Jack. She will always be your Rose.” I sighed, “Thank you Abby.”

I placed my phone away as the doctor entered the room. I stood up, “How is my Baby Girl doing?” He sighed, “Jack, please take a seat.” I shook my head as Rick and Cruz looked up from their chairs, “Just tell me.” He shook his head in a sigh, “We tried everything we could, but we just couldn’t stop the bleeding.” Both Rick and Cruz got up from their chairs and placed a hand on my shoulders, “She is gone?” The doctor nodded, “I am so sorry, Jack. We tried everything.” I shook my head in disbelief, “The twins? Are they?” He smiled, “Twins are doing fine. They are in the nursery getting warmed up. We may need to keep them here for a bit, but they are healthy and somehow survive all this.”

I walked over to a chair and sat down to place my head into my hands, “This can’t be happening. We were supposed to be a family. Me, Monica, Conor, Jack Jr and little Rose.” I reached into my pocket to take my phone out as I looked up at the doctor, “Can I see her? I want to see my babies also.” The doctor nodded, “Of course, but are you sure you want to see her.” I nodded as tears were coming down, “I need to say goodbye.” He nodded as I stood up, “Just give me one minute.” I texted her three words, “She is Gone.” She texted back, “NO, Jack, NO she is not.” I didn’t respond back to her as it was too painful when she texted me one more time, “I am on my way, Now.”

I told Rick that Abby was on the way as his phone rang and I followed the doctor to where she laid. The doctor placed his hand on my shoulder, “I will give you some privacy.” I nodded. I walked up to her at this moment I was sobbing. I felt that I have never cried this much in my life. I ran my hand against her cold soft jawline. I bowed my head as I took her cold dead hand into mine, “Baby Girl. I can’t believe this is happening. That you are gone.”

I looked at her face, “The twins are good. Doctor made me check on them first. They look healthy. Really healthy. You did good.” I squeezed my eyes, “That asshole took you away from us. He will pay either by justice or by my hands.” I placed her hand against my lips, I don’t know if I could ever love someone like I love you again.” I looked up at the ceiling, Heaven gained a special angel today.” I looked back down at her “I promise you that I will try to live in the way you wanted to. What you have placed in front of us. I will work hard and love our children.” I squeezed her hand and my eyes, “I love you so much.”
