One day a man left his home and said to his wife, " I am going to a far away land and while I am there I will give you life here. The woman, that is the wife was dumbfounded as she could not understand what her husband meant by going to a far away land and giving her life here. That land was called Ete and Ete was the only land that existed on earth then. The man's name was Ocha and he was a man who would rather die than see wild animals continue to devour his people. He was sure that if Wild animals are left to continue to operate the people of Ete will be over and the world would cease to exist again. He was a lover of the people and would do anything humanly possible to see that his people lived fine and well. His wife was mostly troubled because her husband was a caring man and she could not bear to think that one day he would leave her and go to a far away land. A land she was not sure he would be able to see him return again. That night before he left She kept on crying and begging him not to go but to stay behind for her and for the Ete people.
"Ete is my joy and you are also my joy my wife. I want to go to the land outside the earth in order to get the answer to shy the earth is bring ruled by the animals. This is not how it is supposed to be. This is not the life Ete people ought to live. We are ought to exist in a land where men dominate the animals and use them for breakfast, for lunch and for dinner but in this case it is different. I do not know why the gods decided to do this to us but if something is not done real quick for the fate of humanity" The husband wanted to move after he had said this but the wife drew him back as tears covered her eyes. "You want to go and leave me all alone in this world. When you mention " The land beyond" it makes me understand that you are speaking of death and the afterlife. How can you visit the life beyond if you are still alive. Surely you are speaking about your death and this had left me shattered already" The wife continued to cry until the man decided to walk away and embark on his trip. When he left the woman decided to visit the king of Ete land.
Inside the palace of the king of Ete he was standing beside the door of his throne room and watching his only daughter, Chiamaka as she played with her pet. As he watched he imagined the pet attacking his daughter and immediately asked her to stay away from it. The daughter could not understand the sudden change in her father's attitude but the king did that out of fear. He had regretted ever seeing himself in a world filled with people who that are afraid that one day wild beast would enter their homes and end mankind. He and his people had suffered this torment right from the time he was born. His father had told him that there was a place where they normally go to appease the god of the animals and had always reminded him that the homage was something every king of Ete did in their own time. "I advise you son, always do as I am doing if you want the land of Ete to survive in your own time. One day I will take you to where I go to offer sacrifices in behalf of the people of Ete. When this sacrifice is performed the people of Ete would be free from the anger of the wild beasts of the earth but you must know my child that this sacrifice is performed every year which means annually and it demands a human being in order to carry it out. Come with me my son" The then king of Ete had taken the present king of Ete who then was prince to the place where all the Kings before him used to sacrifice to the god of the animals. When they reached there the then king of Ete said to his son, I want you to listen to what the god would say and know that I did not lie to you about what I told you at home" When the then king of Ete had said this they waited until the god began to speak. It carried a voice like thunder and the king said to his son, "Now that you have heard the god speak and you are ready to abide by the rules of the god of the animals. We do this every year and we have nothing else we do to sustain the humans existence. Now that you have heard me say this to you my son it is high time you believed in everything. Let us go home"
unfortunately the king died of a bit he sustained from a wild beast that attacked their land and his son took over and became the king. The year he took over he went and offered a sacrifice to the god of the animals and returned home sad and unable to know what else to do to get the people of Ete free from the claws of the animals of the world.
His daughter, the princess was surprised at her father's outburst and she could only stand up and obeyed, leaving the pet which kept snarling. "Leave that thing. We do not need pets in this house" After he said this he raised up his face and saw Ocha approaching his compound and he stood upright to welcome him. Everyone in the land of Ete knew Ocha to be a quite and easy going fellow. When the king had sat with him he had told him of his desire go to the land beyond to see what the problem is and had told the king that he would want him to sacrifice him to the god of the animals this time around and that he had volunteered to be the sacrificial lamb. The king understood him clearly and he and the king with the King's men went to the aboard of the god of the animals and Ocha made his intention known, saying that he was going to ask why the animals were dominating the humans and trying to wipe them all out. When Ocha was struck dead in the aboard he found himself standing on a rock with an old man. The old man looked at him for sometimes and then said, "The animals were not meant to be above the humans but the humans have refused to use their intelligence to control the animals. I will give you this intelligence and you will pass it on to the humans. This intelligence is what the humans no matter their number will be able to control every animal in the world" After he had said this he gave the wisdom to Ocha and Ocha appeared to his wife in a dream and she was the first to receive this gift. Others received it too and that was how man got the gift of being intellectually above animals.
