Ancient Prophetess Chapter 10

2286 Words
The king of Oguma could not sleep without his young wife. He dismissed all his other wives from the palace and slept alone in his chamber. The news the search party he sent after the general who came all the way from Ideje to steal his Queen, the daughter of his Prophetess whom he betrayed her love for him years back and punished her on top by marrying the daughter she bore her late lover who happened to be his most trusted general was disturbing. Somehow he believed the Queen was still alive. He adjusted himself on the bed restlessly as his mind flashed back on that very day the general was to lead the first battalion of his army to war. The King of Oguma knew that most of his soldiers were becoming more loyal to his general than to him. He invited his general to his chamber before the war and said to him. "Let's have a toast of wine. I believe you will lead my army to this war and bring them back to me victorious. How is your wife?" "She is fine my lord but she is not yet my wife. She wouldn't want marriage with me. And she is pregnant" "That's good. But she loves you. Have a drink" the king said and that was how his general drank the poison. "Do you know that your lover was my Ex concubine?" The king asked after the general had drunk the poisoned wine. "No my lord" he answered. "Its alright. May the gods protect you and all the soldiers you will be going to this war with" said the king. The general bowed worriedly and left the tent. He didn't get to see his lover again. He died before the war. The lady in Question after giving birth to her daughter decided to submit herself to the deity and became a prophetess. The king watched closely as the prophetess's daughter whom was believed to be the daughter of the late general who served the king of Oguma very well grew taller and beautiful each day. He decided to have her abducted to him and got married to her without her mother's blessings. The prophetess begged for a meeting with the king of Oguma to no aveil. The King adjusted himself on his bed again and screamed. His guards came running inside. "You all should go to the cliff and find my wife. Go to the tunnels. Don't fear the trolls that nest there. Go into the mouth of a lion if you must. Find my wife. Now!!!" The guards ran out to do as he commanded. In Ideje, the king was preparing for the war and in the shrine, the prophetess was preparing to escape. In the tunnels where the general and the Queen were, there was total darkness. In the tunnels, the young general was searching for two stones to create fire with. The young Queen was still weak and hungry. The general knew she had to eat. He too was hungry but the Queen's welfare was more important at the moment. He stopped moving when he heard the growling of an animal in the tunnel. He slowly drew his sword from it's sheath and stood up. He turned and looked at the extreme of the tunnel and so a very dark beast with blue eyes. He positioned himself for a fight. ***** In Ideje, the Prophetess was set to escape but the King walked in and stood beside her. She tried to move without speaking but he held her hand while saying, "you are as beautiful as your daughter and I hate to strick beautiful women. Where do you plan to go to?" "To find my daughter you gave order to be killed" the prophetess said bitterly. "I never gave such order. I only wanted my soldiers to bring them in but my general was stubborn. I know how you feel about your daughter being stabbed. I know you don't like me and I know you meant you want to go but if you leave I will start the war and Oguma will bleed" the King approached her closely and put in, "and guess who we will strick first in Oguma? "The people you love so much" "Only a cowardly King threatens the life of the common people instead of facing soldiers in the battle field" said the Prophetess before the king raised his hand to slap her but stopped, brought his hand down and said, "I know how you feel. But everybody is forgetting one thing. The King of Oguma is a slave King and he is holding my daughter hostage. I respect my general's loyalty to you but I'm also a father and I want my daughter back as much as you want yours back. We can't win this war if we are divided. I need my general back and I must have him and if your daughter keeps being the reason I'm not having him I won't mind killing her!!!" The king stormed out of the shrine and the Prophetess sat and cried. ***** In the tunnel, behind the general were the soldiers from Oguma sent to find the general and the Queen. The general turned to look at his back and turned again to look at the extreme to see the blue eyed beast approaching. The soldiers behind him spoke, "we know you are there. Drop your weapon and surrender the Queen and we will not kill you here" The general changed his mind about fighting with the beast. It was time to let the beast handle the enemy. He struck his sword on the rock inside the tunnel and there was a sparkling light. The beast advanced with a great force. The soldiers from Oguma unaware of this came running into the mouth of the beast. The general carried the Queen aside and the beast and the soldiers clashed. Their screams pierced the wind as the beast devoured them. In Ideje, the battalion is ready for war. The King had gotten himself together and was already seated on his golden horse while twenty of his best generals stood beside him on their horses. He shook his head before nodding. There was a great sound of trumpet and the army matched forward for the war. **** In Ideje, the King sat on his throne moody. One of his generals ran in to announce that the army was ready to match. "Is the prophetess still in her shrine?" He asked. "No my lord. She is fully prepared and now on her horse, ready to lead the army" the general answered with a smile. The king smiled thankfully before saying, "We will win this war. She is with us. The gods are with us. Now here is an order for you; during the war, don't touch her daughter or let any soldier from my army do so. Let the war leaders know as well. The young general shouldn't be hurt either. We will protect them. This will be our own way of saying thank you to the prophetess" said the king. "But my lord. The general said something strange while the soldiers you sent to bring him in were trying to do so" said the general worriedly. "What did he say?" The king asked. "We overheard him from the tower as he said that you ordered the death of his mother" said the general. The king didn't say a thing. He was stunned. **** It was already morning and the streaming water from the cliff through the tunnel still washed down the blood of the soldiers from Oguma down the other path of the forest. The young general knelt beside the Queen and looked at the resting beast in front of him. He quietly got up and tried to place the Queen on his shoulders and escape the tunnel without waking up the beast but the beast adjusted itself heavily after the last night feast on the flesh of the Oguma soldiers. Suddenly it sprang up. The general was scared. The beast approached him and smelled him before walking out of the tunnel majestically. The general breathed hard before looking into the eyes of the Queen who was now glaring into his eyes. "What happened?" She asked him. The general was almost crying to see she was now well. He shook his head and said, "nothing" Right in the tunnel, the Queen stood up slowly while the general held her hand. She looked at his face and said, "Thank You Akadibe right?" The General nodded with a smile. "You remember my name?" He asked. "Yes. You told me remember" the Queen said and suddenly went sad. "Are you okay?" The general asked. "I'm scared. I'm going to die" she said worriedly. "You cannot die. I will protect you" the general said but the Queen removed her hand from his grip and began to walk out from the tunnel. The general followed her from the back. They came out and looked down the forest to see thousands of Ideje Soldiers matching for the war. The Queen sighted her mother, the Prophetess who was seated on her horse with five generals riding beside her. "My mother" she cried. "You can't go to her now. The King will have you killed" advised the general. "My mother is not safe in his hands. She must be his slave by now" said the Queen. "Your mother is a prophetess. No one can e*****e her. And I'm not joining the army to fight against Oguma. I fight for our safety. For my safety, for your safety. The King of Ideje killed my mother. I promised your mother I will keep you safe. She is counting on me to continue to do so now" said the general. The Queen looked into his eyes and said, "did you know my father?" "How on earth could I know him?" Asked the General with a shrug. "It's just I...i... I feel strange. Saw something terrible while I was in coma. My mother is hiding something. She is hiding something she doesn't want to hide" The Queen wasn't sure of what she was saying. **** As the army from Ideje continued to match, the King sped close to the prophetess and asked, "how are you feeling? "Not well my lord. Never well. I'm hiding something i don't want to hide" said the prophetess without a look at the king. "What bothers you?" He asked. The prophetess turned to look at his face, "you think I decided to follow you to war because I care about your daughter whom the king of Oguma is holding hostage or your greed?" I ride with you to meet with the king of Oguma face to face. A meeting I have prayed for for a long time. Your mission and mine are not the same and don't forget that I still care about the people of Oguma. I come from there" the Queen stopped saying and continued riding as the King watched her. Right in the tunnel, the Queen stood up slowly while the general held her hand. She looked at his face and said, "Thank You Akadibe right?" The General nodded with a smile. "You remember my name?"
