They were all liars that had smiled in her face, pretending to love her. And yet the second someone had a mouth full of lies to tell because of an innocent truth? They’d shown their true colors and treated her like garbage.
“Let her go, and I’ll get her help. With people who actually care about her.” The woman mending the frayed power by moving the power lines in her, made Katherine cry suddenly. Henry’s eyes narrowed, but the elder pixie with ancient pixie tongue etched on her hands and arms stared back unafraid as she boldly declared, “I’ve known this child since she was born. I will not stop helping her.”Ready to kill as the disrespect nearly blinded him, Henry was shocked when Camille tried to tell him to stand down. No more like order him.
And while she was an alpha female and he had respect for her? She wasn’t his alpha female. Which made him okay with growling back in warning, “Piss off.”
Elijah growled at him, but he ignored the wolf as his wife tried to tell him, “They are helping her, we need you to let them-.” Henry rolled over her, “You don’t care about Katherine. If you did, you wouldn’t have let her parents rub you in her face like you’re some how better than her.”
Silenced since the favoritism had been obvious from the jump, the wolf was fairly or unfairly depending on who you rude saying, “Her parents are over there, don’t you have more of their time and attention you want to suck up to replace what you never had?” Rearing back like he’d hit her; Elijah took her spot when she stepped back actually hurt.
Which Elijah felt and it made him defensive as he barked, “Watch how you speak to my wife man. I know you’re upset, but she’s not the one responsible for this.” True. But they were getting in the way of the ones who were, and it was frustrating the f**k out of him.
Ready to just say f**k this, Henry’s shoulder’s widened as his claws lengthened as did his fangs, “Nothing personal alpha.” Eyes wide as it was clear the man was really going to fight him, the anger didn’t feel normal. It felt suffocating as Henry started to rip them apart.
Only for the Elder to grab his shoulders and neutralize that anger as he whispered, “Ah, your Katherine’s mate, that’s why.” He looked at the wolf, “You’re feeling what she feels and because we’re taking it from her, it’s trying to conquer you.”
Crystal eyes peering into the good soul, Elder Solar suddenly pushed him into the pond too. Roaring as his soul glowed a bright silver in the water, Henry felt the anger and pain leave him. His tie with Katherine no longer streaming the anger and violence she’d no longer been able to feel.
“Seems like Katherine’s connection to you was channeling all of her feelings to you. Not to worry, you both will be fine now.” Not even listening to the man, Henry reached for his mate as the woman working nodded to her encouraging her to keep fighting.
Her strings of aura now a bright blue and being tailored, as her kin continued to unjumble them, the woman didn’t let the wolf’s presence stop her.
Grabbing Katherine’s cold hand, he kissed the back of it gently as she breathed out finally calmed.
Eva, who had been standing silent watched too as Camille approached, whispering what she knew. Seeing the kicked puppy response from her client, Eva knew Henry’s outburst had hurt her feelings. But the truth seemed to linger as Eloise and David refused to look her way.
Instead, they gave their daughter their undivided attention as they watched exhausted and crying as Katherine was purged of the chaotic energy swirling inside of her.
“When Katherine went to the human cities, she did not realize the lasting effect it could have on one’s body. Especially one filled with magic of her caliber.” Elder Solar was explaining to her parents as they watched from the pond banks as Katherine falling into a deep slumber, slept through the information as Elder Solar proudly said, “With her being of such powerful and old blood lines, Katherine was already predicted to be powerful. But she’s grown and wielded much more severe power than any of us could fathom. When she went to the human cities, she may have been in one area for too long. It caused her to drain it of its residual magic, but it was from lay lines long corrupted. It’s no wonder her emotions were so heightened.”
Suddenly, interrupting him as she gasped out in her sleep, Katherine awoke as a pain filled her to the point, she had to let it out. So, she did let out a high-pitched scream that hurt everyone’s ears.
As her shrill cry ran over Henry’s skin causing chills, he kept her close even if his ear drums shattered. Pulling her into his arms, Henry felt the magic that was hers, but so jumbled and tangled it was like a ball of cords. Kissing her ear, he whispered in it, “You don’t have to prove anything to anyone Katherine. Stop holding it in for their benefit.” Sobs racking her body as her power shattered around them like lightning, Katherine’s body stopped hurting as finally the red energy not hers purged itself.
Leaving her and her power to fall in line and blend seamlessly as she clung to her mate. Eyes blinking rapidly to see him, his soft smile as he kissed her forehead made her head fall on his shoulder with relief. Breathing soft and then slowing, she began to tremble from the cold. Wanting to bury herself in his arms, he held her tight, trembling also.
Passing out, neither had even realized they had emotion and power made them both exhausted beyond the measures they’d ever felt.
It was seeing them unconscious finally, Elder Solar put his hand in the water, chanting until steam rose from the water and the couple was out of sight. Left to warm up and heal as herbs and sacred oils were poured in by members of the colony, they were unaware when Elder Solar turned his backs to them. Turning to her distraught parents, the elder shook his head as he announced, “And now we talk.”
