Chapter 12

Benjamin’s POV

So much is happening around us and I’m so distracted. White fur, icy blue eyes.. both a very rare colour and the fact her eyes changed to that colour?!

‘For f**k’s sake Benjamin, Focus’ Jasper roars in the back of my mind.

Oh shit.. I forgot there are eyes on us. The Alpha and Luna are stood watching us from the edge of the woods to the south. There is also a third person to the north, I can tell they are from this pack but it is not a scent I recognise well.

I turn to face the others, Kela had already shifted back into human form and Amalia was covering her as she got dressed. The sight of her being covered up makes Jasper and I very happy.

‘Angie we are being watched.’ I look towards Angelique as I mind link her.

‘Yes the Alpha and Luna seem very interested but also shocked with Kelathari.’ She nods back to me.

‘Let’s all shift back, I think we have pushed our luck for one night’ I order her and Demetrius to shift back into their human selves. I linger in wolf form staring down the Alpha and Luna until they turn and take their leave.

I shift back into human form and join the others in getting dressed. The third person who was watching us starts to walk towards us but I sense no threat or danger coming from them.

“Elder Eliza, I didn’t realise you were out here you should have joined us” Kelathari waves over to this unknown third person, she chuckles to herself and runs over to hug and greet the Elder who is joining us.

“Well you know I’m getting on in age my dear I don’t have the same energy I did in my younger years, also it was beautiful just being able to watch you be free and run around” she returns the hug to Kelathari. I look up at her and realise there is more she wishes to say.

“Hello Elder Eliza, it’s a pleasure to meet you” I put out my hand to formally greet her.

“Oh my king, the pleasure is all mine. Thank you for protecting her during her first shift I did worry about this day and if the Alpha would have done anything to her” she shakes her head disapprovingly.

“Of course, she will always be protected by me” I say very sternly.

I watch Kelathari move towards Elder Eliza and whisper something.

“Oh the moon goddess has truly blessed you my child. Finding a mate so quickly and the king being it. King Benjamin please take her away from this place, they treat her awfully and as I grow in age I’m unable to protect her like I used to, I’m thankful she has Amalia and Demetrius to look after her, but now I’ve seen her rare wolf I fear she would be in more danger being her. Especially since the Alpha and Luna saw her” her eyes begin to well up.

Kelathari and Amalia stand by her either side and give her arm a little squeeze.

“Of course once we have finished with our business here we will take her with us back to the Dawnbreaker pack and she will live there as Queen” I say very proudly as I look at her. I watch her eyes widen when I say she will leave and be Queen. But I can tell through the mate bond relief washed over her and she began to relax more.

“That’s good, also when you go back speak to Elder Tom about her wolf form. Years ago we came across a book when I visited Dawnbreaker regarding rare wolves and their symbolism” she spoke carefully in my presence. Symbolism?! Hmm.. I will have to speak to Tom as soon as we get back.

“Yes of course thank you” I nod my head in appreciation.

We all sit down to eat again as Kelathari is as she says ‘starving and on the verge of death’ from the first time shifting. We make small talk about the pack. I find out from Demetrius King Alexander has been sending a warrior once a month to meet the Alpha and watch them training.

‘It is interesting that this has become the norm for them to interact with southern troops. He isn’t even phased by the information he just revealed’ I look at Angie as I mind link her. She merely returns a nod at what I just said, probably also processing the information he revealed.

‘I wonder why he is having a meeting with the Alpha also’ she responds.

“Actually the guard from the south was meant to arrive a few days ago, I guess the schedule changed due to your arrival my king” he froze after realising what he had just said. Amalia’s eyes widened, and Kelathari didn’t even realise what was going on eating away on more cheese and crackers. She probably didn’t understand the gravity of the situation.

“Yes I am concerned the Alpha is up to something, but I haven’t been invited to an Alpha meeting for a few years now so I stay in my cottage as it is out of the way” I look at Elder Eliza as she spoke softly. I wonder why she was stopped from attending them, Alpha’s rely heavily on the Elders in each pack as they hold the knowledge and wisdom others do not. I realise everyone around me has gone quiet, even Kelathari has looked up and joins everyone in looking at me.

“Ah not to worry, you are the closest pack to the southern border so it’s understandable why Alexander may send someone here” I put a small smile on my face which relaxes everyone around me apart from Kelathari. She is staring at me confused, she can probably feel the frustration radiating off me through the mate bond. Well as much as I would love to wisk her away to Dawnbreaker, right now we need to ensure this Alpha doesn’t intend on doing anything else apart or more importantly, plan anything else. I wink at her and smile, I’ll fill her in on the details later, right now she needs space to adjust to having a wolf now.

“Well I think it’s time we head back, Kelathari it’s quite impressive actually it only took you 20 minutes to shift, the moon goddess definitely helped you this evening” I look down at my phone in shock that we have only been out for an hour now.

“Oh yes a good omen indeed shifting with a full moon” Eliza agrees with me as she puts her arms around Kelathari embracing her.

“Thank you everyone for being here, I know usually when people shift the whole pack is involved and there is a pack run and Alpha wouldn’t allow that for me” I frown as I hear her say this.

“But it was just as special having just the few of you around me, this is the best birthday ever” her eyes well up as she smiles at this. I can feel through the mate bond how happy she is. Jasper is howling in the back of my mind.

“Of course, we wouldn’t have missed this for the world” Amalia says as she hugs her friend.

“Let’s head back then” I say as I stand.
