CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Right before I hit the floor and smashed my skull against the concrete, I froze in midair like a giant, invisible hand had caught me. I stopped barely an inch above the floor, allowing me to smell the dusty old concrete directly beneath me. I held my breath, unsure for a moment what happened until I realized that someone was holding me up with magic.
“Look what we have here,” said Jackson above me, causing me to look up and see Jackson and Riley standing before me. Jackson held out his hand, his fingers splayed out before him, while Riley watched me from beside him, though the hood on her head made it impossible to see her expression. “A spy.”
I opened my mouth to respond, but then I heard a cat screeching and a heavy weight suddenly fell down on my back.
