The New Years party… wow… that had been something. With the Halfmoon Park joining them there were so many wolves about. They kept the secret of that girl, that vampire lover, from everyone else. However some silly wolf from the Halfmoon pack, his name Julian, had sensed something when walking past the Pack Hospital and wanted to check it out. Of course Nathanial would not allow it, as much as he hated that girl, he knew s**t would happen if he allowed Julian to find her. What he knew… Julian was a dickhead.
He was the best friend of the Alpha’s son and thought he was better then others. He was strong and a fighter, but he was always a s**t head at school, a bully and picking on others. He was a huge player and Nathanial despised the way he treated females. He was a pig.
That was how a fight broke out, because later that night, that s**t head had tried to sneak into the hospital. He was seen of course by some of the guards and he was sent off the land after a scuffle, punches made and heated words. He claimed that he felt maybe it was his mate, but they told him nobody was in there that he had not already met. He had no choice but Nathanial knew this would not be the end of it.
To be honest though, Doctor Shelt, Sebastian and Julian were not the only ones who had felt that pull. Even he himself felt a pull, not as strongly and only if he touched her. It seemed that some felt it at a distant, some felt it when closer. It was strange and it unnerved him.
Letting out a sigh, Nathanial looked at the sleeping girl. He disliked her, she was disrespectful to the Alpha and his Beta and Delta and Nathanial hated that. If it was true, for what they assumed and knew of her… that she had grown up living with Vampires… then maybe she did not understand how a wolf pack worked, but it still gave her no right to speak the way she did to them. Who cared if she was just tyring to not show fear, it was not right and he had wanted to strike her down for it. Maybe Sebastian stopping him had been a good thing, but he still did not like or trust that blood sucker lover.
It had been one whole month now, since they sent her to the hospital and sharing the load, a number of different members of the guard had to keep watch on her. It was late, nearing midnight and the hospital was quiet and it was Nathanial’s shift to do so. She had been cleared of the wolfbane, and her body was healing nicely. She was still left in the death room though. She had woken up, but she was still under watch and still weak and recovering. Adira… her name was… did not say much when she was awake, only stating what she already told them.
The only difference they found out, the change that took place, was that the Vampire in their Cells was named Sy and he was a very close friend and third in charge to Lord Vincent. He had apparently come to their boarders for a discussion but because some guards had attacked, he had fought back, killing them. This was the reason why he was in the Cells, he had been caught and thrown in there. The girl Adira claimed as he had, that she was requested to get him out, and like he claimed, she had been attacked by guards when she approached the border and fought back. It seemed a pattern was happening, but the guards were denying they attacked the girl first. There was no proof so nobody could say if she was laying or not.
Nosie from the girls bed caused Nathanial to come from his thoughts and look over at her. She was waking again and he saw her eyes look over at where he sat, like she sensed him there in the low light. She had a concerned look on her face and she pulled herself up on the bed, her eyes turning to the door. He was confused by this action and moments later he heard shouts from down the hall and rushing feet.
Standing up, Nathanial walked towards the door about to check what was going on outside but before he got there, the door came flying open and Doctor Shelt rushed in with some guards, carrying a third guard who was covered in blood.
“What the f**k happened?” Nathanial asked shocked.
“We got attacked while on patrol.” One of the guards stated, a wound on his arm. “It was… it was… a Vampire.”
“Again!” Nathanial snapped, turning to the girl who watched, sitting on the edge of her bed. “You! Was this your doing?”
All she did was look at him with her hazel eyes, shaking her head, clearly as shocked as he was. Not trusting her, Nathanial turned back to the bed the injured Guard was on and Doctor Shelt was trying to help. It was clear he was hurt, bitten by a Vampire and this time, he was in this room because he really was going to die. There was no going back after a Vampire bite, venom would be flowing through his body already and it would kill him within a few hours.
As quickly as they came, everyone left the room, likely going to get supplies to help the guard, even if there was nothing they would be able to do. He was just going to be made comfortable and left to die. It was sad, but it was how it was going to be in the end.
“Is it venom?” a sweet voice asked.
Nathanial looked around and saw Adira slipping off the bed, clearly in pain from moving, but still doing so. It looked like she was coming over. No. Nathanial was not going to allow it. He quickly walked over to where she was standing, putting a hand on her shoulder, feeling that pull but ignoring it.
“Stay where you are Vamp lover.” He hissed at her. “You do not go anywhere near our people.”
“Get out of my way… unless you really want to see your guard die.” She hissed back.
“He is already dead, you should know that you traitor to your kind.” He snapped.
He reached his hand back in anger and without thought slapped her. There was a small gasp from her, his hit was powerful and she was weak, but it seemed like this did not stop the girl. She looked back at Nathanial with anger in her eyes, before she caught him by surprise and punched him hard in the face. Nathanial felt a painful snap in his nose, feeling it break from her punch and he put a hand to his face to catch the blood.
“b***h!” he snapped.
He wanted to grab her, but she moved past him quickly, grabbing a bin on the way as she walked to the bed of the injured guard. Nathanial felt his nose already healing and the blood stopping.
“Stop being a d**k head and get me some blood bags. He is going to need it.” Adira stated.
“You drink that s**t?” Nathanial asked disgusted.
“Don’t confuse me for something I am not.” She snapped back. “Just, please. To save him. You don’t trust me. Fine, I can accept that. Just mind link that good doctor and ask him to rush back with some ready to administer right away.”
Nathanial did not trust her, she was right, but he felt like… she had a plan. He was worried, but he did it, linked the doctor and asked for the blood, as he watched in awe and shock. The girl was at the guards side, the bin next to her on the floor and even though he reached out to stop her, Nathanial was not quick enough to stop the girl as she bent down and bit into the area the guard had already been bitten. He made a painful grunt noise and seconds later, her head lifted, turned and a mouth full of blood was spat out into the bin.
Was she…. Was she sucking out his blood… the venom?
Alpha… I think you need to get to the hospital to the room now.
Nathanial stood frozen as the girl continued to lean into the guard and then spit out blood. He could hear the steadying of the mans heart, but he could hear her heart start to race in turn, a small cough and an uncomfortable sound coming from her. The doctor arrived and witnessed the same thing and he was just as shocked and stunned by what was going on, yet being a doctor he got over it quick enough and rushed to the side of the bed the girl was not next to, hooking up the bag of blood and inserting the needle end into the guards arm, taping it down and then stepping back, just watching as the girl continued to suck out the blood and spit it into the bin.
When Alpha Gabriel arrived, along with Beta Luke and their sons, there was a growl that was so powerful that even Nathanial felt his knees tremble. The girl though, she did not react, and lifted her head from the guard and spat the blood out into the bin.
“What is she doing!” Maximus asked disgusted by the site of blood.
“Cleaning his blood…” Doctor Shelt said with a small voice.
“How!” Alpha Gabriel asked, not so angry any more.
“I am… not sure… normally… this does not normally work… we have never been able to clean blood… but we have never done… this…” Doctor Shelt said.
The room fell silent and moments later the girl Adira stood up. She coughed a little, wiped her arm across her mouth and then turned, to look at them all. She looked almost like she had done something wrong, with a trace of the mans blood still on her mouth and smeared across her cheek when she had wiped.
“He… will… live…” she said in her sweet toned voice, yet strained.
Seconds after her words, Nathanial saw as the girls already pale face lost more colour, her eyes grew heavy, rolling back and she fell to the floor in a heap. No matter if they did not trust her or not, everything that had just happened shocked and surprised them all and so when she dropped, they all rushed forwards. Alpha Gabriel scooped her up in his arms and rushed her over to the bed she had been on recently, allowing Doctor Shelt to move forward and do an inspection on her, while they all waited anxiously to find out what was going on.
How did Nathanial feel about what he had just seen? He was not sure, but he knew that Adira did not have to do what she did. Essentially, she was helping them, which made him feel guilty for slapping her the way he did. His heart tore thinking about it and he watched guiltily. Sebastian standing next to him noticed and looked from the bed to Nathanial frowning.
“Why are you covered in blood on your face? You didn’t try that too did you?” he questioned.
“No…” Nathanial said, somewhat embarrassed by it.
“Then what happened?” Maximus asked with raised brows.
“Well… I kind of got a broken nose from her.” He said pointing a thumb at the bed.
“She broke your nose?” Beta Luke asked surprised.
“I didn’t trust her, thought she was up to no good, tried to stop her, then she punched me to get past me. It was not a weak punch either… as you can see. She has a good pull of strength.” He said.
“Serves you right.” Doctor Shelt smirked looking around, laughter in his tone. “I can see you slapped her face… I take it her punch was pay back.”
“Maybe….” Nathanial said in guilt, looking away at the floor.
“You slapped her?” Alpha Gabriel questioned not pleased.
“Like I said, I thought she was trying to cause trouble.” He explained. “I read the situation wrong… all she wanted to do… was help him.”
“She did.” Doctor Shelt said with a heavy sigh. “At the cost of harming herself.”
He was straightening up and covering Adira with blankets, and turned to face them all, shaking his head and not looking too happy.
“My assumption, living with vampires her whole life, she knows secrets we do not. Meaning, she knew sucking out the blood that was infected with the venom would save Joseph. Normally, we try to circulate and clean the infected blood…. We have never really completely drained a wolf before of all their blood and then put fresh blood in. But now I do… this can help us come up with a new treatment method.”
“That is good… but you said she did it at the cost of harming herself… I am assuming she did not pass out just because she was weak from everything else going on recently?” Alpha Gabriel asked.
“Trust me she aint weak… my nose knows.” Nathanial said lightly, getting a few glances.
“What cost?” Alpha Gabriel asked firmly.
“The venom she extracted… a small amount is in her system now.” Doctor Shelt said sadly. “Not enough to kill her… but enough… that I can not say… when she would recover and wake again.”
“Do the best you can to look after her. I want to know why she helped.” Alpha Gabriel stated. “Nathanial. I expect you in my office when your shift is over, we need a discussion.”
“Yes Alpha.” Nathanial spoke lowly.
The group turned and left the room, Sebastian placing a hand on his shoulder for a brief moment as he passed and Maximus passing over a cloth so he could clean himself up. He was silent, as he looked over at the guard sleeping on his bed near the door, peaceful and colour returning to his skin. She had saved him… at the cost that it may have killed her. Nathanial still did not trust the girl, looking back at Adira, but he could not deny he was now more curious about her, grateful she did help. They did not lose a good guard today and it was because of her. Maybe she really was not here to cause harm. Maybe she was just here to request releasing that Vampire in the Cells. Even so, they needed to still be careful, so he would sit there and watch over her, make sure nothing happened.
